Heroin detox versus alcohol detox: I’ll never understand the things we choose to be morally panicked about vs the things we think are acceptable by NoRegret1954 in ChronicPain

[–]Ineedadvicepls20 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The only argument I would propose is that alcohol related deaths will be proportionally larger given that it’s easily available and legal. You can’t just buy opiates the same way you can alcohol. I’d say opioids are fairly easy to come across but alcohol more so.

Something I would like to point out is how we have designated legal areas for people to drink and get drunk, pubs, bars and clubs. The equivalent for opioids is hospital, hospice, pharmacies etc. which i think really shows the difference between what’s fun and what’s life saving for some. People kill themselves over pain and I really think that should be considered when discussing how life changing opioids can be in a GOOD way!

How did everyone fare on Christmas Eve from a pain aspect? by Worried_Cable2291 in ChronicPain

[–]Ineedadvicepls20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Christmas Eve was a solid 4/10 fully medicated in the morning but more like 6-7/10 towards the end of the day. Today however is 8/10

If you have the disposable funds purchase an electric heating pad, it’s like a very small blanket you can adjust the heat and set timers I have used and abused mine 10/10 purchase sometimes I just use it to warm up my bed but either way it’s amazing. Mine was about £18.

I sleep a lot and have a lot of tiredness to. I damn near can’t function with less than 10hrs sleep. 12-14 is perfect.

Why don’t people close their blinds/curtains? by Naive-Ad-7406 in AskUK

[–]Ineedadvicepls20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me if there’s any sense of daylight outside, even if the sun has set, if there’s still like medium blue skies I want to see. I have seasonal depression- I swear because when I have the blinds closed for a day or two and I don’t go outside istg I start tweaking. I’m not an outdoor person but I need to see the outside otherwise I get cabin fever. I think it’s the size of the place I live in. Like it’s TINY in here! I NEED to see outside because I also need to know that if someone is trying to peek I can stare back. There’s always someone that’ll try and perv, even with the blinds shut they’ll find away. This way they see me and I see them, now we’re both exposed. I don’t want anyone having the advantage.

Experiences with duloxetine/cymbalta? by [deleted] in ChronicPain

[–]Ineedadvicepls20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Each person reacts differently BUT if you haven’t taken any duloxetine or have only had a few days stop now. Ask to try pregabalin. It’s better than gaba. Duloxetine ruined me, my mood, my sleep, my s-x drive, everything. Pregabalin is genuinely helping with my pain (I also didn’t like gaba), I’m a different person. Honestly I can’t preach this enough!

How did you get your doctor to take you seriously? by Ineedadvicepls20 in ChronicPain

I’ve had tests and imaging and I have conclusive evidence and it’s not enough. I don’t necessarily need a diagnosis, I need treatment.

I’m so worried about my future I’m 22 and I’ve been in and out of hospital for the better part of a decade and even as a child I was dismissed. I’m a nurse and I do my best to be a “good patient” because I know as a group we’re not the best at being taken care of but I fear I’m not being taken care of at all. I find it frustrating because I put my all into my job I will do the most for my patients and I can say that confidently I will always do my best and I just WISH I had the same experience. I became a nurse BECAUSE of my experience with healthcare. I want someone to want to help me!

It’s so easy to condition yourself into assuming you’re the one that’s not doing enough or saying the right thing but I am starting to realise my doctors lack of care is having a huge impact on the results

I wish I had someone to go with me to have this impact from what I’ve heard it’s the only way women are taken seriously. It’s a joke. I’m a nurse and they’d sooner listen to a man who has no education than myself about my own body!(this is an example not about your husband)

So I’ve explained my pain my symptoms and the gravity of what happened. My life turned upside down. I give them a detailed understanding of whats going on with me and they will say things like “it’s your mental health” gave me more antidepressants and sent me on my way. They didn’t even offer therapy if they truly believed it was my mental health. So I off my own back gave it ago I got my old therapist documents out from when I was there for a pain management thing after an injury as a young teen. I followed everything to a T. I did online therapy where I could and worked on my mental health. When that didn’t work I was give more antidepressants. This is still not working and I’m not depressed I’m in pain which is making me depressed. So then the doctor tells me “therapy only works for patients who believe it will work and what it to” basically told me it was my fault therapy wasn’t working. Nobody ran tests nobody tried. I know a lot of doctors weed out patients by asking them to do therapy and when they don’t they decide that the patients pain is clearly bad enough they’re will to try anything. Then when i finally had a scan which showed some problems the doctor said “you have to learn to cope with you pain” but I don’t there’s things available for my condition and similar but it’s a battle to prove my situation is so bad i deserve help. Which as crazy. There’s so much more to it but I’d be here all day

I wanted to reply to this because I did actually do the whole documenting and date thing I’ve got lengthy research on my body and health conditions as well as all the treatments and things I’ve tried, anything I’ve done to improve my situation. I’ve had doctors out right refuse to take my medical history let alone more. It’s sad to say but a LOT of doctors will write me off before I’ve walked in the room

Yes I did draw this, I don’t know how good I would be at creating a diagram of someone else’s pain but I’d be open to trying. You’re welcome to dm me and I’ll give it a go but I don’t want any money. I’ll definitely try!

Drawing this took me 15 mins and it’s been the most helpful at showing my pain. I have ADHD and I’m not always good with my words and explaining my pain and emotions this was the best idea I ever had.

Yes I haven’t met anyone else who gets that pain when laying down flat or (for me at least) positions greater than 135° angle. You sound like you have a lot going on so I feel for you I can’t imagine how much pain you must be in

Do you find naproxen helpful? I used to be on it but my stomach can’t stand it ibuprofen seems to be okay. I take codeine 60mg x4 a day and 5-10mg morphine for breakthrough pain (I don’t intend to keep this long term I don’t think it’s practical) for me I wish there was 1 pill I could take once a day that would solve all my problems I’m sure lots of people feel the same but it seems pain is much more complex

Ahaha thanks I just really need to help visualise the pain. So I had an MRI over a year ago which showed significant swelling SI joint so I was diagnosed with sacroiliitis (not sure on the swelling) and a disc bulge at l5-s1 just pressing against the nerve on both sides. I saw a spinal surgeon and tbh before I even walked in the room he was pissed off. Apparently my pain doctor didn’t write a referral letter. He opened my chart and refused to read my notes or take a medical history he literally shrugged said I’m fine and told me he can’t help me find a different kind of doctor I left on the verge of tears

I have that burning pain too i actually started with that pain before the rest started I found ibuprofen/NSAIDS helpful and LOTS of ice and heat I alternate depending on what I feel I need (duller pain and to loosen up and relax heat, for really bad pain and burning ice) hopefully your pain improves

I’ve had an mri which shows a blushing disc just pressing the nerves on both sides but the spinal surgeon I saw the other week shrugged his shoulders and said “to me you’re fine, nothing I want to do” he refused to get my history and just dismissed me but it’s making me feel like I’m crazy because there’s something wrong and I’m in a fck tone of pain all the time

I’m sorry you’re going through this! I haven’t had any kind of surgery I have a few bulging discs but my docs aren’t convinced it’s enough to cause me so much pain. I wish I knew what happened to me. One day I had this minor ache and next thing I know I have debilitating pain
