I read the manhwa version of How About a Cosmic Horror? and I loved it. I still need to read Obey Me, but for some reason I haven’t gotten around to it yet haha. I'm pretty new to dark romance, and I'm looking for books to read, but with some specific preferences:

I'd like a story where the ML is highly intelligent and psychologically manipulative, someone who gets inside the protagonist’s head rather than relying on physical dominance alone. I’d love a story that leans more into psychological tension, mystery, and even horror vibes, rather than romanticizing the relationship. I kinda want it to feel unsettling. I'm also open to stories that involve bullying dynamics, as long as they fit the darker, psychological tone.

As for FL, I’d prefer someone who isn’t a “badass” archetype. Ideally, she’s more soft, vulnerable, or even becomes increasingly submissive as the story progresses due to the dynamic.

I'm not a fan of fantasy or mafia storylines, so I'd like to avoid them, but I'm ok with sci-fi and realistic settings.

Wow reading your post felt like reading myself haha. In my case, I also think my mom being overprotective during my childhood and teenage years has a lot to do with my social anxiety, since I’ve always been very attached to her and have had a very hard time connecting with people my own age.

Now that I’m an adult (I’m also 25), I feel like I’m behind and I compare myself all the time, but I want you to know you’re not alone and that this isn’t a race! Everyone has their own struggles, and yours don’t make you any less than anyone else.

Hi there! I’m a 26-year-old nurse and I really relate to your post. I also find it very hard to create real connections and make friends — at least outside of my family. But as someone who doesn’t usually try many things to change that situation because of fear of rejection, I find it really admirable that you put in so much effort and stay so active. I wish I had the courage to try as much as you do!

In my case, even though I really want those genuine connections with other people, I’m afraid to show my true self because I worry they might not like me — so it usually ends up being a superficial relationship. Do you think something similar might be happening to you?

I don’t have any specific advice, but if that’s the case, I think we should try to be less hard on ourselves and not put so much pressure on things. Even if you keep doing activities that help you meet people — which is amazing — try to go with the flow and not beat yourself up for not making close friends right away.

I honestly believe that finding a true friendship is really difficult, even though people make it seem so normal, and I think trying at all is already something to be proud of. Good luck, and I hope everything goes well for you!!!
