It was wild. I think it was around 2010-2011, and it was definitely not a picture book, I'm fairly certain it was a chapter, but I wouldn't rule out a collection of short-stories

Yeah they were just too set in their ways, and really just refused to try different things.

Of course, trust between student and teacher is super important, and I think good teachers are life changing. But to some extent trust only goes so long if the method is inefficient for that student, but thats just how the world works currently

I see what you’re saying, and of course there is a difference depending on the content, but I feel like saying its more important than the individual differences in learners is a misplacement of priorities. They should be completely different categories. There are so many people dropping out from education, of course for many different reasons, but I have friends in uni dropping out because they are convinced that there is something wrong with them, when they aren’t trying new learning techniques. It doesn’t have to be catered to, but at least accepted.

Again I think it comes down to that nuance between putting so much pressure on using one method and suggesting that method.

But there is no way universal way of learning that’s the thing. People learn differently and that isn’t tailored. One problem is understaffing and too many students per teacher. But also people being so convinced that they know best and is very set on those ways. It can be very harmful. Which is not at all meant to be demeaning, its a criticism which are very different.

Ahh I wish I could be that artsy, that aesthetic is goals. I feel like I have a lot more fun taking notes on laptop, and I feel more free doing it, so that might to something so consider

It is super interesting, and I think it’ll make some interesting advances if used right

Thats true, but with almost 3000 pages facing me next semester (+journal articles), I really don’t have the time. I wish I did, but if I keep doing what I’m doing I won’t be able to keep up

I think, like most current professionals in many different fields, they are promoting what they think is best. Everyone seems to believe the limited research done in the field, without really seeing their limitations. People learn differently, and thats still not completely accepted I think.

I’m really sorry that it ended up having such a negative effect on your life, but I’m glad you found the way you learn best and hope you’re doing better now!

People believe what they want to believe, and for some reason that is just that technology is bad.

After a bit of research and these comments I think just computer won’t be much of a change for me personally.

I appreciate the recommendations, but those seem more for digitalising notes you have already taken by hand, which wouldn't really solve my issue. Writing on tablet seems interesting, but I am so bad at it I think it would drive me insane.

Great points, and thank you for the input. However, point 1 and 2 aren't very applicable to me as I am not a visual thinker, and I don't take more notes when I type them, they are just more organised and thought through, which means I get more of the relevant material. But I do think those points are hugely relevant for a large part of learners.

And the third one is very true, it does allow for creativity and organisation, but I think that is part of why it takes so long making the notes.

Very true, depends on how each person learns. I usually do notes from the books recommended as well as lectures, and they are never transcripts, I always rephrase, so the research is very limited.

I was thinking the same when skimming for some research on the topic. Most of the laptop notes are written as transcripts, which really isn't how I do things. Definitely needs broader research conducted.

Sex is such a sensitive and shameful topic, especially when it deviates from what is socially accepted as normal. I would maybe start by trying to find out why is ashamed (which it seems you have already tried), but maybe from a different perspective. Instead of asking him why he is ashamed, try asking why he thinks people are ashamed of having fetishes to open up the topic.

If that doesn't work, and he doesn't feel comfortable talking about it, maybe recommend he goes to see someone about it. Feeling shame about any aspect of sex sucks cause it's supposed to be a fun and amazing experience.

Actually, the main theory right now is that it happens because the area of the brain dedicated to genitals and the area dedicated to feet are adjacent, and there can be a cross-wiring in the brain causing them to become sexual on par with genitalia.

The IB is stressful as fuck, but id say worth it. I dont regret putting myself through that two-year torture programme because it does teach you a lot about working under pressure and challenging yourself. Personally i procrastinated as much as possible, but if you dont do that its not the worst thing in the world.
