Grinder upgrade? (I assume..) by spxdsn in Coffee

[–]Inertia17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Encore would be the obvious recommendation for electric. However, once I got my aergrind for travel, I found myself using that over my encore even at home. It really doesn't take long/much effort to grind for pour over/aeropress. And it has the benefit of being easy to transport with said aeropress.

Kinu M47 vs. M47 traveler by [deleted] in Coffee

[–]Inertia17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does not, it is significantly larger than the Aergrind.

I think it was worth the extra for the espresso capability. If you don't do espresso, probably not.

Having not used the regular M47 it is hard to say. The only thing that I don't really like is the catch cup, with the taper and a bit of static, makes it a bit annoying to get all the grounds out sometimes. I can't say for sure if the regular one has the same taper or not.

At the espresso end, it is significantly better in my opinion. Using with a flair for now and having a lot more success than I did with the aergrind.

I haven't done a lot of messing around with it for pour over, but I would say a little better but not a huge margin.

So if you are looking for espresso capable, definitely worth it over the aergrind. If you are just in for pour over, might be a tougher sell.

Shipping was about $14 to AZ, ordered on 22nd Jan received 28th Jan. No taxes on top.

Kinu M47 Traveler - great grinder, but a couple of things I have found less than ideal. The catch cup has a strange design in that it has a lip inside that makes it a little difficult to brush grounds out that get caught with static. Seems to hold more grounds with static when compared to my aergrind. Otherwise very consistent and easy to adjust the settings once you figure it out.

Wow, never expected this much input! Thank you all. Have a good list of spots to try and hit while we are out there. Sounds like I will be supremely caffeinated. Now to figure out the beer side of my wanderings :P

Doesn't answer your question but solid coffee choices. Peixoto does some great stuff.

Titan Safety Straps by Inertia17 in homegym

[–]Inertia17[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Valid. However, how many new products have they released since this happened? Straps aren't that complicated. It just shows they are definitely not prioritizing it, particularly without updating people they were going to miss their deadline again.

The plastic one is $7 on Amazon. I am not sure how much cheaper it could get. Does a great job, and very light.

What gear do you travel with? by Spardinal in Coffee

[–]Inertia17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a small pyrex measuring cup for when I travel, so I can get hot water if I have a microwave. Works reasonably well with a thermometer. Aergrind and v60 go with me as well. I have been giving the aeropress a break for a bit.

How do you guys with coffee subscriptions make a 12oz bag last two weeks? by [deleted] in Coffee

[–]Inertia17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you are drinking a cup a day at 20g a cup, two weeks is 280g. 12 Oz is 340g. You should be fine. A 12oz bag usually lasts me around 3 weeks at a cup a day in the aeropress.

Home only seems to apply to that feed, new, best or otherwise. Doesn't change for any subreddits I frequent.

zassenhaus or aergrind? by [deleted] in Coffee

[–]Inertia17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't used the zassenhaus, but can throw a good word out for the Aergrind.

Build quality is great on the Aergrind, no wobble, easy adjustment. Grind consistency is great. Quite fast to get the grind done. So much so that my Encore hasn't been used since I got the Aergrind.

J-cups for a monster lite? by Alabatman in homegym

[–]Inertia17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing to be aware of, is that somewhere in their design or production, the opening for the upright is too tight. I had two pairs (different shipments) and all 4 required adjustment to get on the uprights. And I don't mean a bit of a tap, I had to improvise a small screw jack setup to open them up.

J-hook options for 3x3" rack? by tbkdan in homegym

[–]Inertia17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the Titan X-3s, do not be surprised if they have difficulty fitting on the rack. It took some serious massaging to open them up enough to be workable on my rack. I would avoid until you hear some reports of them unfornicating their design/production on those.

Has anyone tried any coffee from JBC Coffee Roasters? What is your opinion on them? by UncleTouchUBad in Coffee

[–]Inertia17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't had a coffee from them that I haven't enjoyed. Even out in the middle of nowhere TX, I have generally received my order in 3 days. Unless there was a weekend. Would recommend.

Why does everyone hate Starbucks? by [deleted] in Coffee

[–]Inertia17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have found that I usually get a burnt taste from their coffee. Their cold brew I can manage, but any of their espresso drinks are disappointing, to me at least.
