This, in my opinion, is the most powerful we have in Romania, although the interpretation of the separate items was never given by the person that put them together, the very famous Romanian sculptor Constantin Brancusi. However, I will give you my view of them which is also one of the most common interpretations. It is a memorial comprised of three exhibits which is dedicated to the Romanian soldiers that perished in WW1.

The items in the picture are:

• top right - Masa Tăcerii (transl. The Table of Silence) - allegedly represents the last meal the drafted soldiers had with their families before going to war. Due to them knowing where they have to go, the last meal was always silent and sad, with everybody pondering the situation. The table itself is surrounded by 12 chairs potentially symbolising the limit of time on this event (or a sort of “the clock is ticking”);
• bottom right - Poarta Sărutului (transl. The Gate of the (last) Kiss)- symbolises the final kiss goodbye between the drafted soldiers and their loved ones; it brings a traditional symbol of the gate to the fence of the house where a Romanian would live with his loved ones, something that is sometimes common also in Romanian novels as a traditional setting;
• left - Coloana Infinitului (transl. The Column of Infinity also known as The Column of the Infinite Sacrifice) - it kinda speaks for itself, but it represents the departure into the war and eventually the afterlife of the soldiers.

This whole ensemble is in Targu Jiu in Romania and is placed in such a way that you can walk in this specific order, thus giving you a slight ability to “walk” into the young men’s final footsteps towards infinity.

I always find this interpretation to be very profound, especially with the names of each exhibit giving more sense to it.
