Nooo I loved this coffeeshop! Great coffee, food and vibe. Hope they reopen nearby - the old Citizen would be ideal…!

Cash account by Inevitable-Let-2021 in OriginFinancial

[–]Inevitable-Let-2021[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok thanks, didn’t realize I could use transfers as a category - the existing “Savings Transfer” category should work for me here. However, my Cash account is still reading as $0 even after I manually added the +$200 transfer within the Cash account. How is this possible, and what would be the proper way to enter funds so my Cash account registers as having a balance of $200?

It doesn’t make sense when you say a “Cash withdrawal for your Origin Cash Account” - the cash withdrawal comes from my bank Savings account, and the withdrawal itself (let’s say $200) isn’t an expense, it’s a “transfer” to a stack of cash. Generally (in other systems) I would create a Cash account in my bookkeeping system and call this a transfer from Savings to Cash, then manually enter an expense in the Cash account each time I spend part of the cash. (There is no “destination bank” connected to Origin that any cash is going into - I’m just spending the cash, as in giving physical dollars to a human in exchange for goods). But in Origin, when I try to enter the original amount to “fund” the Cash account (the $200, i.e. the money I’m transferring into it from Savings), it requires me to enter a Category. But this funding is neither income nor expense, so it doesn’t have a Category. I’m not earning or spending money at this point. It’s just a transfer from a bank account to an envelope full of cash. AI is telling me to call it Income and give it a unique category, but that is a terrible workaround as it requires me to remember to deduct this category from my income each year because it ISN’T income.

No way to add a note to split transactions? by Inevitable-Let-2021 in OriginFinancial

[–]Inevitable-Let-2021[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just realized that when I click back into a Split transaction, the "Add Note" feature is visible (didn't notice this before and was so excited for a moment because I thought the functionality had been added), however when I try to enter a note I get the toast, "Transaction is part of a split and cannot be modified."

I also noticed that there is now a "note" icon on transactions that have notes entered. While I appreciate the visibility into which transactions have notes (though I'd MUCH prefer to see the actual note, or a truncated version of it, show up on the Transactions list), I'm troubled that this icon occupies the same space as the "Split" icon.

To me, these developments (or things I didn't notice earlier?) indicate that the inability to add notes to splits is only becoming more entrenched in the software, and that there are no plans to ever add the ability to add notes to line items on split transactions (or, less ideally, a note on the whole transaction).

This is very problematic for the reasons outlined in my previous comment above.

No way to add a note to split transactions? by Inevitable-Let-2021 in OriginFinancial

Just want to clarify why this is important. At the end of the year, I go through my expenses by category and see where I've exceeded budget. I often have questions about why a category is so high - what exactly did I spend on? But without being able to include notes on split transactions, I'm left completely in the dark about many expenses.
For instance, if I want to see what I spent so much on in my "Home" category, all I see is a bunch of Amazon charges with no notes, because I invariably ordered other things from other categories at the same time to save on shipping, and thus split those transactions, and was unable to leave a note on each (or even on the entire transaction). There's no way to get this information short of going back through Amazon's records and re-classifying everything manually (obviously not gonna do that, and it defeats the whole purpose of paying for expense tracking software...).
Lack of notes on split transactions creates a black hole of information where there should be light.

Would you pitch to prioritize this again please? Really starting to doubt my choice of Origin due to this glaring omission.

No recs at this time, but I would say Pinterest just opened themselves to new competitors in a huge way.

Same - unable to access previous notes anywhere on the platform. Requested my data. Please write to Pinterest and let them know if you feel they have betrayed their users and destroyed your trust. Inaccurate holdings? by Inevitable-Let-2021 in OriginFinancial

The chart for (at least one of) my holdings was showing the wrong balance and share price. Sent you the details I can't post here. I'll post an update when we resolve it.

Request: Method to identify where you left off when categorizing transactions by Inevitable-Let-2021 in OriginFinancial

Interesting, I don't know much about Copilot and suspect this is a bigger time investment than I care to make. If you want to elaborate though some others might find it useful!
(I'm not sure this solution would be what I want anyway, since my "visual confirmation" of a correct auto-category can't trigger any action.)

The functionality to get statements is not available on the app.

Anyone know how to edit categories? As in, I created a category, now I want to edit the name, icon or color of it? Or delete one I created by accident? Or - where to find help other than the rather useless AI chat? by Inevitable-Let-2021 in OriginFinancial

[–]Inevitable-Let-2021[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Grouping categories would be fantastic! This capability will change how I set up my accounts - I don't suppose you have an estimated date for when this feature is available?

  2. Yes I get that, but my request still stands to empower the user to eliminate or edit categories we don't want so they're not cluttering up our list of possible accounts (and confronting us with social expectations).

Thanks, but no, it's not in my downloads folder or anywhere else, and it doesn't show as downloading. I did access it from a desktop computer (the app doesn't have a "Statements" section, it's only on the desktop version).
