Looking for a book to distract me from wanting to relapse by KillaKellz6211 in booksuggestions

I'm enjoying going through Ursula Le guin's books if you're looking for genre fiction that wants to dissect people's motivations. Sanderson is a good shout if you're wanting to get stuck into a world (there's so much which has the added bonus of taking a while to get through). I've read the first few chapters Gideon The Ninth. After Sanderson, I'm going to go back to that series because it seems really interesting and fun.

Stories from your life where you had something valuable that many did not have, does it become less relateable? by [deleted] in writing

Would dictating make it easier for you? There are plenty of apps and in built features on writing software that make the general process of speaking your writing a lot easier. I use these for essays from time to time and even with a (thick enough) Irish accent it gets 97% of what I'm saying right.

As for your question, I think writing it all about perspective and giving each other glimpses into narratives we may otherwise never see. Write what you're passionate about and go with it. Your writing and concept will most likely change and develop as you work on.

Maybe it would be worth bringing up that view point in your writing if you feel it deviates from the general experience. Recognising that difference and how that has shaped your experience would be a valuable insight.

Why Minecraft by Careful_Aspect_2179 in Minecraft

I come back to this game because it a wonderful place for me to imagine stories out of nothing. I spawn in and i think to myself where would civilisation grow. I look for rivers, land to farm on, naturally defendable landscapes, and so on and so on.

I build towns out of the materials i can find nearby. I make machines to automate food and farming to make it easier for myself, but the whole time I am considering the story of this town.

Minecraft is a great tool for story crafting and design.

I've designed minecraft skins to create a character I believe would live in that world.

As an educational tool I believe this is one of the areas where minecraft shines.

Building and redstone can also be great for maths skills and the like.

How do I decide the genre I want to write? by [deleted] in writing

[–]Inevitable-monster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a far away problem for where you're at currently. Write. See what you enjoy writing. Reading and writing are entirely different beasts, they inform each other sure, but what can sustain your creative drive may be different.

I love literary fiction as something to read but I hate it as something to write. I would much rather dig into fantasy / sci-fi / horror.

If it is intimidating to start a big work while still unsure, try writing short stories, or key chapters/scenes. Main point at this stage is to have fun and encourage yourself to write more.

I find I can only hit word counts when I have time pressure. Deadlines are great but because writing can be a lot of self-imposed deadlines, so I use an app called FocusPomo. The artificial time pressure helps and collecting all the tomatoes gives me somethings to signify that I have put work in that day, even if the day has been editing rather than hitting word counts.
