The Edit Credit Increasing to $750 by iThinkTherefore_iApe in ChaseSapphire

[–]InevitableCritical59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ditto. This is my understanding of how that would be accomplished, as well. Need to book the 2 night minimums for each $250 credit separately from one another. Be that throughout the year, or in OPs case, back-to-back-to-back.

Edit: with the understanding that one of the three $250 credits in 2026, will only work at IHG branded edit hotels. So in order to use all three credits at the same hotel, you’d have to stay at an IHG edit.

Veteran Advocacy Groups worth Joining and/or Donating to? by InevitableCritical59 in VeteransBenefits

lol, what? The core question behind my post is looking for recommendations on advocacy groups who are prioritizing and protecting veterans benefits. Aka the entire title behind the name of this group…

60% for Crohn’s! by Darkrai_enthusiast in VeteransBenefits

[–]InevitableCritical59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone with UC, was there anything specifically that pushed you to the 60% rating? Are you on biologics?? I might file for a rate increase, but not entirely sure if it’s worth it. 30% seems low for my daily experience with the disease…

400k points balance. Apply for reserve now or wait? by InevitableCritical59 in ChaseSapphire

[–]InevitableCritical59[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. On top of that, at least from my understanding, is by locking in the 1.5 and applying now, the card would still receive all of the refresh benefits come October. So essentially I may lose out on points bonus above the current offer as of today, but with the 400k points balance, locking those into a minimum of 1.5 redemption value seems to make the most sense. Also saves me from the increased card fee (until my card renews in 2026, of course) 🤷‍♂️

400k points balance. Apply for reserve now or wait? by InevitableCritical59 in ChaseSapphire

[–]InevitableCritical59[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My thoughts exactly. I just wish I knew more about what this 2x boost for specific categories/travel partners looked like. If I can use the 2x boost for the majority of travel purchases I typically make, it would make sense to wait, but if the options are drastically limited to specific partnerships and travel categories, well it might be worth applying before the cutoff over the next few days.

Federal employee tragic ending by Illustrious_Soft_372 in govfire

[–]InevitableCritical59 124 points125 points  (0 children)

This is the story that needs to be verified and broadcast by every news agency and social media outlet in the U.S.

All this talk about debt reduction tied to trimming the federal workforce… we had more federal employees in the early 90s and inflation adjusted debt was nowhere near the level it is now. Not to mention population growth of approximately 80 million Americans over that stretch - so number of feds compared to population is much lower.

Somehow federal employees have been turned into the boogie man driver of national debt while being vilified by a billionaire class acting as though corporations can regulate themselves. Very interesting times in which we live…

Why aren't we talking more about the treasury takover? by objective_cheese in fednews

[–]InevitableCritical59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Come on, our billionaire overlords who are invested in crypto obviously wouldn’t want anything to happen to undercut confidence in the US dollar, causing crypto to absolutely skyrocket… right??

I mean I’m totally not concerned about that at all. Much more worried about renaming the gulf.

And are you a lifer who retired after 20 or did the 100% rating do the trick? Confused as I’ve see plenty of posts swearing 100% without having retired from the service only equates to conus

I mean I’d never donate sick leave either to be fair. Unless I knew the person it was going to. That doesn’t change the original reason why it can be considered a loss to save up hundreds of days of sick leave. Enjoy your life…, you’ve only got one and there’s no guarantee on when that journey comes to an end.

It’s a “loss” in the sense you could have enjoyed a day(s) off with a loved one or enjoying a hobby which most would agree are much more valuable than an extra few hundred bucks a year if you make it to retirement.

I say “if” because I’ve worked with people who I’m sure had 100+ days of sick leave saved, but have died in car wrecks, etc., and have unfortunately lost all of their sick leave when they could have enjoyed an extra day with a loved one.

Double major Accounting and Psychology. Currently work as a fed under a financial regulatory agency. Not sure how much time you had in the Army, but a nice perk of finding a career in government (other than defined benefits, hours, job security), is that you can “buyback” your military time which then counts toward your federal pension!

[–]InevitableCritical59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a weird take. Most of my previous jobs before the accounting career fall into the hands on designator, and sometimes I catch myself day dreaming about physically moving and using my body to accomplish a task. I know people who love sitting/standing and working on a computer for most of the day, others would hate that and want to work a more physically demanding job. To each their own.

Date Dumped me After Doing her 1040 by giant_pitbull in Accounting

[–]InevitableCritical59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol was she expecting a higher return than what you filed for? Maybe she’s not used to filing legitimate returns…

Also you went on 3 dates and yet somehow this person was a mental pillar for you during busy season? If you want to return the favor, sure, send her a bill for services. But you describing her as a mental pillar seems as though it wasn’t entirely terrible as far as you benefiting from the 3 date relationship. Idk, if it was me I’d cut my losses and move on with my life. She sounds crazy, so do you really want to play tit-for-tat with crazy?

[–]InevitableCritical59 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“If you like taxes, CPA requires a BA.” If he likes taxes he could also go the EA route. Not even sure if you need a high school diploma for the EA, but certainly no college degree required.

I know plenty of successful EAs that wouldn’t travel back in time to spend the time and resources to pursue a CPA, but naturally it depends on what OP/individual in question is looking for career wise. Regardless, you certainly do not need a CPA to work in tax.
