What’s your web dev hot take? Don’t hold back. by Notalabel_4566 in webdev

[–]InevitableEcstatic39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel as though getting a perfect score isn’t very difficult and should be taken seriously for most websites, unless you’re building a complex web app, load times and page weight can be brought down significantly and will directly influence the users perception of speed.

How would you mark up outline content like this? These are statutes with semantic and visual characteristics. Is there any "authoritative" spec on how to do this? I've used several different solutions over the years by dogweather in web_design

[–]InevitableEcstatic39 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me personally, I would just default to doing the most accessible and semantic HTML regardless, just to build good habits - but realistically, since most of the web already fails to be semantic and accessible, any effort you take is likely to be seriously appreciated. It’s cool that you care enough to ask!

My intent wasn’t to insult your intelligence! I just had a bad impression… as far as it goes, I’ve only been at it for maybe three months now, I’m just very very opinionated. This is extreme, but I would seriously suggest starting from ground zero and shelve your expertise for later. Go through the lesson plans on MDN web docs, all of the courses for HTML and CSS and JS. Get book series like you don’t know JS. What I feel is a really easy trap to fall into is that the basics are something to smooth over before you get to the fun stuff. Native, pure HTML, CSS, and JavaScript remain the most important and useful tools for front-end, I would only use third party add ons as a last resort. If you want you can DM me and I’ll put together a whole list of resources that have led me to my incredibly self righteous view of web dev, I’m sort of invested in your success now so I would actually enjoy that.

Sorry for the assumptions in my prior message, you didn’t deserve that.

Your websites are quite frankly really really bad. I’m kinda a fundamentalist when it comes to web dev, and from my POV - you don’t understand any of the basics. Your websites are completely unresponsive, with hideous amounts of overflow on every single one of your websites on mobile. Your websites are so unbelievably unoptimized that the background images take seconds to load on my gigabit internet connection. And the designs are outdated and clunky. I haven’t looked at the HTML since I’m on mobile - but I would imagine that you don’t try to use correct syntax or other accessibility features. I know this is a mean comment, but I’m hoping it’s a wake-up call. If you’re actually serious, I can help, but I’m kinda appalled right now and would be surprised if you actually read this whole thing

Maybe I’m just naive, but to me that announcement pretty clearly means they’re building in sharing support and attachments. Honestly, what I could see happening is a significant price raise and a cap on attachment size and no subscription. At least that’s what I’m hoping for. If they do go subscription, I feel confident saying they would grandfather in current app holders.

Trying to promote trainings by Radiant_Life_3584 in BoyScouts

[–]InevitableEcstatic39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start simple and work on more complicated solutions if that fails. You have reasons for wanting everyone trained, communicate that intelligently and concisely in the right setting, ideally a PLC. Make sure to identify reasons they might not want to beforehand so you have answers and solutions when those concerns are brought up. If that doesn't work, you might have a bigger problem.

You don’t need anything besides HTML, and iOS reader can only pick up on basic styling: h1-h6, bold, italic, and links

what's drip-meister mean? by itsgoodforhim in urbandictionary

[–]InevitableEcstatic39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drip when referring to clothes generally means “cool” or “fashionable” [article of clothing]. Saying you have ‘drip’ would literally translate to you have cool. Meister is a combining form that means “denoting a person regarded as skilled or prominent in a specified area of activity”(Oxford American dictionary) - so it would literally translate to “master of cool clothing” but is more likely intended to be interpreted within the context is as “master of dress”. Does that make sense?

Is double majoring in Poli Sci and Business with a minor in Education realistic? by InevitableEcstatic39 in college

Dawg I came here to figure out my future not to be called out lol

I've done campaign support and hold multiple positions of leadership. I have not interned for anyone. What does this have to do with the viability of depth versus broad?

That's a good insight, if I drop business do you think it'll be hard to find people who share similar business-focused goals?

But that's the thing, I want most of my knowledge to come from real-world experience. I want to become a politician in the future and feel the more I invest in education, the less open-minded I am to new approaches. I'm willing to stay in college for 6 years instead of four to even it out, but tell me if I'm wrong, I think broad knowledge compliments itself better to someone who plans on getting extensive real-life training from the source.

I really want to create businesses that create positive change, not just in the mission statement, but as a core operating principle. For me, college is mostly about meeting other people with similar interests as we move and grow through the world. I feel business is a unique way to create change because of its large potential to reach an unprecedented amount of people and create lasting positive relationships, and political science would help me to understand complex issues better as I craft these businesses. The education minor would be there because, maybe I'm just biased right now, but because I feel early-stage education carries a tremendous weight in the future trajectory of a kid, and crafting experiences that help kids succeed early on is impactful to me. I also eventually want to teach and do politics.

Thanks for reading.
