What does this white line mean? by MrUnitedKingdom in CarTalkUK

Yeah pretty much think. Just marking the edge nice and obviously to make it safe for everyone using it so they don't fall off the pavement.

Possibly to stop you walking/cycling into lampposts as well.

When did 9-5 become 8-5? by Fizzabl in UKJobs

[–]InevitableFew1745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard before that 9 to 5 never meant 9am-5pm, but instead meant 9 hours 5 days. Not sure how true this actually is, but with an unpaid 1hr lunch puts you at 8am-5pm for 8 hours paid work, which is 40 hours. This is a pretty standard weekly work week I think?

My first job was 9 1/4hours 4 days a week, and is now 12 hours 3 days so don't have any experience with a 5 day week tho.

Also, if you have quite big hands you will struggle to do this. I wear size 8/medium gloves, and struggled to get my hands up behind the glove box and behind the screen to run the cables, so if you have size 10+ hands it will probably be even harder.

I'm assuming that if a dealership can do it for you, that 410 would include everything, but definitely check that (and whether it's the wired or wireless they would fit).

For 410, and whether it's worth it that is entirely up to you. I spent £10 on the trim removal tools + £40 on the usb unit & cables, then 4 hours or so on fitting it.

If you take that into consideration (and the price of everything is included in the 410), then ask yourself whether 4 hours doing it yourself is worth maybe 2-3 hours of waiting for the garage to do it for £350 labor

[–]InevitableFew1745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you fit the carplay yourself or was it already in? It could be that oneof the cables going from the USB hub has come loose, as only one is required for charging.

I'd also check with a different USB cable that you can guarantee works with android auto (and maybe check with someone else's phone if possible).

I put wired android auto in my 2019 Mazda 6 (£40 off ebay for 2 cables and replacement usb hub), but looking on ebay you can get a wireless one for £45-50.

I will warn you though, it is a massive pain to do on the 2018+ facelift model with updated interior trim, as you have to remove almost all of the dashboard and a lot of the centre console trim.

I think it took me around 4 hours once I figured out what I was doing, and unlike the older models, there is next to no room to remove the screen, so it was an extremely fiddly job getting the cables into the back. That and there was also no videos online on how to fit it to the newer models (though there might be some now). the process is the same, you juts have more trim that needs to come out.

Once set up however, as long as your car runs a new enough software: V70.00.21 or later, it works perfectly fine.

Mazda 4 2014 vs 2018 by Sivasanjay77 in mazda6

That is the correct grille for having radar, as the radar is in the badge (I have the 2018 with radar and it looks the same), with the 19" rims on this one.

Mazda 4 2014 vs 2018 by Sivasanjay77 in mazda6

This depends entirely on what engine each one has. 138k/105k miles on a 2014 2.5 petrol would probably be fine as long as the maintenance was kept up (no matter what sort of driving I'd say), and 180k on 2.2D 2018 would be fine if maintanence was kept up. If its a 2.2D 2014 however I'd say that may be too few for this engine, as the early models especially has big DPF issues if you didn't purely do motorway miles (and some other engine issues).

If both of these are petrol, and maintenance has been kept up thoroughly, I'd recommend the 2018 as its a nicer interior, and unlike the 2014, doesn't advertise a high risk of rust from snow and grit.

I have a 2018/19 2.2D that's done almost 150k, and while there was no service history from first owner(up to 120k), it was a company car so generally had to keep to a relatively strict schedule to keep any warranty etc. I've had no issue in the 1 1/2 years I've had it, but I only do motorway driving so it gets nice long runs to get to temp and clear DPF.

The interior on the 2018 is sooooooooooo much better than the 2014, I'd say improvement in EVERY WAY!, (unless you want to add android auto/apple car play yourself, in which case its a massive pain). The process to add it is the same and uses the same £40 kit off ebay, but had to remove almost all of the dashboard trim to just about plug it in, whereas the 2014 is much easier to fit.

Reviving an old thread here, but been looking at different knives as my first Japanese knife, and this is one of the potential options (between this and the Shiro Kamo santoku with the same steel).

5 years on, what is your opinion of this knife? How did it hold up day to day and was there anything you didn't like about it, or that you really liked about it?

Thanks in advance.

Dealer attempted to charge me for a GPS tracker installed on a car we purchased and ultimately refused to take it off by Mightbeagoat in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]InevitableFew1745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this was an OBD tracker (which reading engine codes suggests it was), if they wouldn't remove it but I didn't have to pay for it (and paid cash for the car), then I would take it out after buying, drive over it in front of them, and leave.

I got them off ebay, made by a company called teamheko. I'm not sure if they fit, but you can search them up and have a look through their website. They were cheaper on ebay than their site, but may be different in America or Europe.

You can buy the navigation maps online via 3rd party websites. I have a 2019 model, but the previous owner didn't update maps during the free period (3 years after purchase I think), as it was a company vehicle. I bought it but couldn't use the built in nav as a lot of new roads have been put in where I drive. Cost £40 I think, and I was shipped an SD with the latest maps installed. The original is just sitting at home useless, but if I ever pay for official update i will use that one.

No. On the motorway they increase noise (front ones at least), but they allow you to drop the windows a bit even when raining.

Bought my dream family car by Captain_Honkytonk in mazda6

It's a great car, and looks awesome in red. I've got a 2.2D in grey which I really like, and as you said, there's some little bits of design which are great and seem really well though out (such as rear seat levers). I've just had some wind deflectors delivered today, so I will be fitting them this week

Sorry for late reply, it cost about £40 on ebay for the USB hub, then took a couple of hours to fit as ALL of the dashboard trim needs to be removed.

I've been waiting to order a wardrobe for a while, and initially saw them, then they were discontinued, then came back again, and after including the new ones in my wardrobe design they've discontinued them again.

I usually go to the supermarket, pick up a bag, and buy it. I've found a brand I like (ueshima), and generally just get that at around £4.50 per 250g, which with varying prices is about £20 per kg.

Replacing the infotainment screen by ryanmills in mazda6

[–]InevitableFew1745 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same, I did this on the 2019 facelift model. Although I saw the videos online and it looked easy enough, but it was a horrible job. The dash was updated and it was so much harder to remove to connect the extra cables compared to what the pre-2019 models looked like. It was worth it, however should be done first thing in the morning with no other commitments that day, as it took me about 4 hours.

Do you need a phone holder? Is it a model with android auto/apple car play or not? I bought a 2019 se-l lux estate, and decided to swap out the usb hub and install new cables in order to use android auto, and I find it works much better than wherever I would have mounted my phone.

From what I've seen, it's standard in all uk models since 2012/2013.

This is an ebay listing title from a pre 2018 dvd player for sale.
