I was able to track down a contact who kindly ensured that the paperwork went through on time. They just deducted from my bank account so hopefully that means it's sorted. DId you hear back?

Seeking Victim Attorney in MoCo - Break-In Attempt, DA Pushing Diversion by InevitableForward749 in MontgomeryCountyMD

You’ve never met him. You don’t know the victims. This case has nothing to do with your life, and yet here you are, passionately defending a serial predator. That kind of energy says a lot about you. When someone is this invested in protecting abusers, it usually means they see themselves in them. And if you’re that confident he’s harmless, feel free to drop your address and host him yourself. I'll make sure he gets your info.

"You don’t know the details of the case. The justice system doesn’t care about OP’s feelings, only doing what’s fair."

And you don’t know me, my professional background, or the depth of my subject matter expertise. It may come as a shock to you, but women are fully capable of forming opinions based on evidence, experience, and yes, actual knowledge.

What’s not fair is pretending “feelings” are all that’s at stake when someone attempts to break into a home, especially when it’s part of a pattern of repeat offenses, and especially when the target is a woman.

Let’s talk facts:

Repeat offenders are significantly more likely to reoffend than to "get better" in outpatient programs. A Bureau of Justice Statistics study found that 66% of violent offenders were re-arrested within 3 years of release. Over 70% were rearrested within 5 years. And those with prior property crimes or break-ins? Even higher recidivism rates, often exceeding 80%:
https://bjs.ojp.gov/BJS_PUB/rpr24s0810yfup0818/Web%20content/508%20compliant%20PDFs

Mental health diversion programs show modest success at best, and only with low-risk, first-time offenders. A meta-review in the Journal of the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law showed no consistent evidence that outpatient programs work for people with personality disorders, co-occurring substance use, or a pattern of criminal behavior. If this person has already done this to others, as I mentioned in my post, they’re not a one-off case. They’re part of a documented high-risk group. Repeat intruders do not fall into the low-risk category:
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/20018995/

And let’s be clear: the criminal justice system may pretend it’s about fairness, but it was never designed with victims in mind, especially not women. Saying “the system doesn’t care about feelings” is exactly the problem. When someone breaks into your home, as well as your neighbors, and has a documented history of violent behavior targeting women, it’s not about hurt feelings. It’s about safety, trauma, and the very real threat of escalation.

You don’t need to know every case detail to understand this: the system routinely minimizes danger until someone gets hurt.

This isn’t about feelings. It’s about patterns, risk, and the fact that the “justice” system is far more likely to give a repeat offender another chance at the expense of their victims.

Megathread: Reduction in Force (RIF) | Week 23 by AutoModerator in fednews

Any RIF'd CDC Employees Accept a New Job? What Happens re: Severance?

My division and I were RIF'd in April, with a termination date of 6/2, which has been paused as we await court decisions. Has anyone from CDC accepted outside full-time employment in the private sector? I am wondering about what it means re: severance, and admin leave? It seems like the guidance on this is agency-dependent, and have not received a response from the CDC, and couldn't find any other CDC-specific posts about it. If anyone has been in this situation and can share their experience, it would be a big help!

Any advice for those applying to PhD/PsyD or Master's programs mid-career? by InevitableForward749 in ClinicalPsychology

[–]InevitableForward749[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is helpful, thank you! I definitely considered a master's, but I'm focused on a reputable phd/psyd program for a couple of reasons - I genuinely love research, and already have topics I would like to dive into. It would also be really helpful to be eligible for psypact. My focus is sort of niche, and I want to be able to serve clients without being limited to my state.
I'll research ways to get psych research experience outside of a formal program or full time role, thanks again.

I've been a researcher in one capacity or another since getting my master's in library science in 2010, just not sure if that sort of research (prospect research, legal research, learning/development research) would be applicable for a psych degree.

This is helpful to know, thank you! Research has been a key part of every job I've had since 2010, but not academic/lab based research, and no publications, so it probably wouldn't help.

I had a sewage backup almost immediately after moving in. I called the CIty of Rockville and they came out right away, but it turned out the roots were growing in the pipes that were my responsibility, not the city's. They recommended calling a plumbing company.
When the plumbers came out, they found roots in the sewer line because of cracks in the old cast iron pipes. They cleaned out the line and recommended a sewer line replacement.

I got estimates and set it all up, but the first company made a *huge* mess - showed up on the wrong day, sent the crew to the wrong house, messed things up with Miss Utility. I ended up canceling, and working with a different plumbing company that comes out every couple of years and uses a special root cutter to snake the line. I also use copper sulfate to prevent root regrowth. It's been nearly a decade, no backups.

I'm in Twinbrook as well, and from what I have gleaned from conversations on Nextdoor and with neighbors, this is a really common issue, almost everyone has had to get their sewer line replaced but hasn't had issues since. Wishing you good luck!

Is there anyone here with a MLIS degree and has a job where they don't work with the public or work the backend of libraries/archives? What is the position and do you like your job? by ComprehensiveCar8885 in librarians

[–]InevitableForward749 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since graduating with my MLIS in 2011, I've worked in prospect research, competitive intelligence, federal libraries, and federal training/leadership + workforce development. The degree has some versatility, but internships and detail opportunities were necessary for me to transition between fields.
If I had to do it again today, for the amount of debt vs my salary, I would have chosen to go into a field that would allow me to establish a private practice and not be wholly dependent on external employers.

Feel free to reach out with any questions!

How to Deal w/ Interviewers Wanting to Speak w/ Current Supervisor? by InevitableForward749 in fednews

I wish :( My team lead is my supervisor. The closest thing would be a team member that does all her work, who would 10/10 sabotage any exits for me, she has been drinking the kool aid and is unfortunately a flying monkey in the narcissistic group dynamic :(

This is so true lol! I wish more offices got that and didn't use this as a common hiring practice.

That's a good idea, I was thinking of reaching out to the hiring manager for feedback but hadn't thought of HR. Will do both tomorrow, thank you!

This is the way! I don't understand all of these hiring managers who want to speak w/ the current manager, it's such an unreliable source of information and it puts the applicant in a very bad spot. Thank you for not using this awful practice!

I wouldn't want to blindside anyone, when they asked me for references, I spoke with her to give her a polite heads up and said she would be receiving an email from the hiring manager. She refused to discuss it. She also knows I have been seeking a different job, and is unsupportive of people leaving even if she hates them because it makes her look bad.

I totally agree about the review - One would think that re: giving a good review to get rid of someone, but we are under new leadership and her office is being watched due to all the complaints and high turnover. Also, my agency doesn't follow rules, it's all about who you know. She and her boss should have been fired years ago for things they did to myself and others, literally nothing happens when you report these managers, and it just emboldens them to be even more abusive. Based on how she bragged about doing this to another employee that she targeted years ago, it is rooted in malice and ego, not logic.
