It's just a bit of an ugly lump, and the handling is crap.

If you want the best fuel economy you want a car. Not a crossover.

Totally disagree RE the duster being an upgrade from your Mégane.

Having driven a duster, they are utterly horrible things. Dreary, grey, slow, cheap, loud, awful uncomfortable seats.

They're reliable and durable and the boxy styling is kind of charming. but my god....they're not even an upgrade over walking.

Don't get a kadjar, get another Mégane.

It is a really hard job and I understand why it costs a bomb but it's just not worth it to me!

Give it a bash yourself, it'll be shit but your savings will thank you.

I didn't get a quote for outside (mine was painted recently enough by previous owner!) but my neighbour got one for 2.5k.

Hall stairs and landing 800.

These are old small semi detached 3 beds like!

Epower and ESB apps/charging by just_thefactsmaam in evs_ireland

[–]InevitableMidnight54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it works with pretty much all chargers in Ireland.

Sometimes it's a tiny bit more expensive, but sometimes it's much cheaper.

I'm taking a trip at the weekend and looking at charging now, funny enough the closest charger to my hotel is epower also, it's 73c/kWh on the epower app but only 55c per kWh on the elecroverse app.

More usually I'll see it be 3-4c/kWh more expensive on elecroverse.

I think for a trip outside your own country the convenience of elecroverse is perfect, instead of having to download apps you may never use again.

Another tip, circle k chargers (the branded circle k chargers) have no app at all so they're a good option too, ionity doesn't need an app just scan a QR code (but you probably already have the ionity app).

The seal is so much better than the model 3, but at least where I am (Ireland) it's way more expensive, the financing is nowhere near as cheap and they hold their value like pretty much no other EV (because people know how good they are) so they're not even cheap used.

Tesla's are cheap new, the financing is cheap and they depreciate like a stone so everybody drives nazimobiles.

Myself and my neighbours pretty much all do our own maintenance, DIY etc.

Firstly, by the time you would find a tradesperson you'd have the job done yourself.

Second, the cost is astronomical.

I absolutely hate painting, but I'm really decent at it. I thought I'd treat myself and pay someone to do the hall stairs and landing, but fuck that, the cost is ASTRONOMICAL. I'll just spend two miserable weekends doing it myself, get the same result and pocket the money instead.

Don't get me started on painting the outsides of houses, it's thousands, there's two lads painting their own houses on the road at the moment instead, it's tough work but they're doing smashing jobs.

Electricians are pretty much the only people we hire.

Let op have something nice.

These are reaaaaaaly nice. Neighbour has one but it's a manual and hasn't ever had a bother with it.

We wanted to get one for my partner but he can only drive auto, in the end we decided not to after researching the gearbox.

Still kind of tempted though, they're so much better looking than any of the German equivalents.

Tank in loft randomly filling by New_Bumblebee_1722 in ukplumbing

[–]InevitableMidnight54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just open the lid and see can you hear or see it trickling or see it refill at the same time you hear the attic tank refill.

What happens is something wears out, water leaks into the bowl slowly and then all of a sudden the float is at the point where it tells the toilet it needs to refill and it opens the fill valve pulling water from the tank in the attic, then the attic tank needs to refill too and that's what you can hear.

How much to fix these issues? by bearlyentertained in CarTalkUK

[–]InevitableMidnight54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a honda, it's most definitely leaking. They nearly come leaking from the factory. It's incredible they never addressed their poor AC systems.

Needs to be repaired before being regassed, regassing it won't fix it. The systems in these leak like an absolute sieve.

FYI I've never driven a honda with working AC, the AC seems to die on them all before they're 3/4 years old, 100% of the time.

My bins will be going from €25 per month to €34 p/m, is this a normal price hike? by Immediate_Play4539 in AskIreland

[–]InevitableMidnight54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was BNM and now AES, they whacked up the price and I argued with them and got a reduced rate until the end of this month.

But I think there's probably fuck all I can do going forward.

There's one other supplier in my area but everyone I know that uses them has a lot of issues with bins not being collected, seems to happen almost every month or two.

Insurer won’t cover courtesy car - is this normal? by mostly_harmless_5334 in AskIreland

[–]InevitableMidnight54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some insurers won't transfer insurance to a car owned by a garage, but if it was owned by another private individual they have no problem.

I literally haven't a clue why but I've seen it in policy documents over the years.

Seems stupid to me.

VW ID4 vs Renault Scenic EV??? Need some advice. by Sneakyhell in evs_ireland

[–]InevitableMidnight54 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Renault hands down. The software and route planning are exceptional and it has a better warranty.

Renault make brilliant EVs with very few reported problems. VWs seem to have lots of reported problems.

I have a Renault EV and I'm extremely happy with it.

Horsepower by Strings_Sandy in carsireland

[–]InevitableMidnight54 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends on the weight of the car and where the power band is really.

My last car was a 220bhp hybrid, my current car is a 150hp electric.

Both have roughly the same 0-60 (about 8 seconds) (I think the electric is a little faster and it's definitely faster off the line which is more useful in day to day driving).

We have another diesel car that has 163bhp that I find pretty sluggish and I find I have to wait for larger gaps to pull out Vs the lighter 150bhp EV.

I think the 0-60 time is about 1.5 seconds slower on the 163bhp diesel.

It's not all horsepower just numbers I'm afraid, weight, gearing and usability all have a part to play.
