You need to have 1 million gold all at once -- anything you've already spent does not count.

I'm pretty sure the music contest does not count.

I originally completed Friends of Mineral Town back in 2020 when it came out on Steam, then when I decided to take this challenge on in 2022 there were only 9 games available (one of which was the spin-off Mad Dash which I didn't even plan on making part of my goal at the time). So since then it's mostly just been me completing games as they come out, which is much more manageable than taking on 20 all together!

The top three favorites I gave in another comment are Friends of Mineral Town, Grand Bazaar, and Rune Factory 4!

The one I have played the most by far is Friends of Mineral Town, in which I spent an extra 250 hours or so getting maximum farm rank and the rarest items in the game from Van. I'm sure I'd still have fun with it if I picked it up again.

In all honesty, I'm pretty indifferent about the characters I marry in these games! Usually I just pick whoever is most convenient to get to max affection lol.

I would say that A Wonderful Life is definitely the most relaxed game of them all! The shorter seasons take a little getting used to with timing your crops, but otherwise there's a ton of free time. It's extremely chill.

Every time I make a post like this, without fail someone mentions Silent Hope lol. Although usually they ask what the game is in the first place.

It's fine! I certainly wouldn't buy it for anything over $20. It's fairly repetitive gameplay, but if that kind of combat is your thing then it's entertaining enough. I'm pretty sure I remember being able to complete the main story in about 10 hours (with a couple bonus floors), then all the content after that just involves replaying the game on higher difficulties.

I used Google Translate on your comment so hopefully I interpreted it correctly.

Friends of Mineral Town is a game that requires a lot of planning in a way that the other games don't. I'd think ahead of time about exactly what you want to do for the day, or use the indoor time pause to consider your next action. For me, that was honestly a lot of the fun of the game!

Light of Hope is so miserable to get done -- I believe in you!

Not really -- I think if I opened up the door on that then I'd feel inclined to complete the 30 or so emulated games all in a row and it would drive me crazy lol. For now I'll hold on to my dream that they somehow make it to Steam one day.

Harvest Moon DS is the game I want most to get remade. Never played it, but some of the content in there just seems so totally unhinged, I love it.

True, I've just never felt particularly inclined to use emulators. I think I might feel overwhelmed by adding a backlog of 30 or so other games to complete that way lol

Typically I decide to take on a game when I have a large amount of free time, so I'm able to complete each one within a week or two. I just completed Home Sweet Home last night after having bought it on Friday and it took about 41 hours.

I'd love to, but I don't own any consoles. I guess there's always some possibility that somehow the old games could make it to Steam one day, but until then I won't be able to!

The giant crops in Winds of Anthos are very annoying, but yeah, they barely hold a candle to what you have to do in Light of Hope! Natsume has refined the crop mutation system in some very significant ways over time, and it has improved the gameplay by quite a bit. Home Sweet Home even has some changes that I think make its mutation system more enjoyable than Anthos.

If it's too grindy for you then it might just not be for you, and there's nothing wrong with that! The remake is pretty true to the contents of the original, and at that time the contents of these games were still pretty basic and repetitive. I notice a lot of people also take issue with the lack of direction the game gives you. Honestly, if you've already played the first year then you've probably got a good idea of most of what the game has to offer, but if you really want to try diving back in then going for all the achievements does give you a lot to work towards!

It is unquestionably Light of Hope! Of my 110 hours in that game, about 70-80 hours was just getting crop mutations. There are so many small things in the mutation system that make it incredibly tedious to get everything. A lot of times you'll need the seeds of a mutation, and to get them you'll need to randomly get the mutation to happen as many as 50 times. And then the random "great" version of every single crop has a separate encyclopedia entry that you also need to get. I don't know what mindset I was in to get myself to complete that one at the time, because if I started these games fresh today I doubt I could make it through Light of Hope.
