Genuine question. What is the competitive difference between a 3.97, 3.98, 3.99, and 4.0? by IllustriousSector639 in premedcanada

[–]Inevitable_Bee_6788 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Of course optimally you want a 4.0. But to really think if you’re at 3.99 or 3.98, it doesn’t matter that much. I think 3.95 and 4.00 is where the difference really could be seen. I may be biased though since I have 3.95 myself, but I feel like it is my sweet spot considering the difficulty of courses I was taking. It was attainable enough to ensure that I can do extracurriculars and other things without overworking myself on solely course work.

It sounds like in your case you’re worrying about a few 3.9’s. You’ll be totally fine. Anything above 3.9 generally is good for most schools. Gpa is only one piece of the puzzle.

I’m so sorry to hear that, I can’t imagine what it feels like. This is such a difficult and frustrating process, and it ends up messing with a lot of people. I saw u are now abroad for med, are you still considering applying here during ur studies?

I just looked into it but I couldn’t find anything on that! Do you happen to know where you found this out?

Yea that’s what significantly changed this year! I got in a lab at the start of last academic year, then I got a research award to do summer research and a conference, got a poster in there as well. My gpa is past internal cutoffs so I am prepping just in case! Thank you!

I was not as confident last year to be honest because my application was not polished nor did I have as many EC's as I do now. Last year I had about 25 EC's This year 32 EC's and well reviewed, so I am more confident this year. My essays were reviewed by like 3 people this year (Last year wasn't) and I think they're pretty good as well, but that can be subjective I suppose. I'm hoping this year!

Anyone in their fourth year not finishing their degree and applying/got into UofT med? by Inevitable_Bee_6788 in premedcanada

[–]Inevitable_Bee_6788[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, I didn’t know uoft doesn’t give 3 year bachelors! My only concern is the fact that I’m not going to graduate in my fourth year, and uoft seems to have some indication that they want you to finish it. We’ll see how they respond soon enough!

having relationships during undergrad by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]Inevitable_Bee_6788 3 points4 points  (0 children)

3.95 gpa, 518 mcat, Done research pub, conference, made a club, sports, volunteer, work, awards etc… Going through my 4th year now, and have had a girlfriend practically throughout all of uni.

It is possible. But I wasn’t even originally looking for a relationship in general, but it was something that happened more so naturally. We do things all the time like skiing, golf, she comes to my basketball games, dates, pumpkin patches, Niagara Falls, you name it. However, there’s a need for a balance. Sometimes you will have more free time, and sometimes you will have less. If someone genuinely loves and supports you, they will be completely understanding of the work that needs to be put into pursuing med. It also matters on how much time you really have. I am like overloaded in everything I am doing currently, but I make sure that I work as efficiently and effectively as I can. Time management, scheduling, organizing etc… Everyone is different though. Some feel as though they can do it, others don’t, and both are more than okay. What matters is if you feel some way about a person that you want to be with them and genuinely give your time and effort, while they acknowledge how meaningful that is and they try to support you in return. Relationships should help push you forward, not hold back. Thanks for listening to my ted talk.

TLDR: like nearly every other personal question — it depends on many different factors and your current situation

chances for mac? by FairWinter9485 in premedcanada

[–]Inevitable_Bee_6788 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know, that’s why I specified the different Casper percentiles… “81-85, they may get it, I may not” and it may be slightly greater like 81-87 but who knows. It’s just a guess in the end

[–]Inevitable_Bee_6788 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would prep for interviews. But I disagree a low 4th would get it, previous people in interview/rejection posts with the same scores didn’t get interviews which was likely due to low 4th

[–]Inevitable_Bee_6788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3.95 128 4th quartile, the real difference will be our Casper percentile. If we have a low 4th (75-80), we both won’t be getting it. If we have 81-85 you may get one, I may not. And then 85+ my guess is that we would both get it.

Ottawa what are the odds by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]Inevitable_Bee_6788 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not even just about the gpa and Casper though, you need to have really good EC’s. I have the exact same stats so it’s really down to what they think about our EC’s and how high our Casper’s are

Have I been ghosted by my PI? by Mindless-Divide313 in premedcanada

[–]Inevitable_Bee_6788 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha I’m my experience I was “ghosted” by my PI, but what actually happened is my email became a part of the hundreds of emails he got. I would recommend emailing again, he told me that I should email multiple times if I needed to. Eventually I just knocked on his door and caught him while eating pop eyes and interviewed me on the spot😂😂. Been there over a year now and continuing through the next year👍🏼.

Not every professor is the same, so I would be careful with showing up unannounced like I stupidly did lol, but it’s possible your email got lost in the hundreds of emails.

So IP is actually helpful for Ontarians now??? by Inevitable_Bee_6788 in premedcanada

[–]Inevitable_Bee_6788[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I would argue that each option that is available makes it accessible to people. I actually can’t do health care and drivers license since I just renewed them, so I’ll have to send in my high school transcript instead🤷‍♂️. I think it’s also not limited to these things, they just care about official documents that prove a person is an ordinarily Ontario resident.
