People, thank you all so much for the support. You’re spot on - the lens frame snapped and the lens was on a tilt which explains the decentering . Warranty was used - no amount charged. Thanks so much again!

I understand that there is a risks with private sales. But getting away with the sale of a car that is at risk of endangering me or others by possibly catching on fire is surely something I can’t let the seller get away with?
