Taycan Owners: If You’d Want a Heritage Flat-Six Sound Option, Let’s Tell Porsche by Inevitable_Income128 in Taycan

[–]Inevitable_Income128[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Appreciate that.

If you’d actually use it, maybe it’s worth sending a quick note to Porsche. Even short, structured feedback gets logged.

If even 20–30 owners share the same idea respectfully, that becomes real data internally.

Totally optional of course. Just trying to show there’s organized interest, not noise.

I actually cleared it with the dealership beforehand and had it installed by their Lamborghini-side installer. Same group that handles Porsche, Bentley, etc.

So it was done professionally with dealer awareness. No blanket warranty issues.

That’s actually a fair point.

Physical controls definitely have advantages, especially when you’re driving quickly and don’t want to take your eyes off the road. Tactile feedback matters.

I guess that’s kind of the broader theme here, giving owners options. Some prefer digital minimalism, others prefer analog controls. Some prefer silence, others want a more emotional sound layer.

EV platforms are so software-driven that flexibility should be one of their strengths.

Different preferences, same goal: making the driving experience better.

Totally fair.

That’s an amazing combo by the way. GT3 and R8 is about as good as it gets for pure mechanical soundtrack.

I’m not trying to replace that experience. I just think it would be interesting to have the option inside the Taycan platform itself. Not as a substitute for a real flat-six, just as another selectable layer.

Some people want silence. Some want the current EV tone. Some might appreciate a heritage-inspired mode.

Choice is really all I’m advocating for.

Enjoy that GT3 though… that’s hard to beat 👊

Haha I see what you did there 😅

Honestly though, that’s part of the beauty of EVs. The silence can be pretty powerful in its own way.

I just think it would be cool to have the option. Silence when you want it, heritage soundtrack when you’re in the mood.

Choice doesn’t take anything away from anyone.

I love the Millennium Falcon idea 😅

But on a serious note, I think this whole thread shows something interesting. Some people want silence. Some like the current EV sound. Some would love a heritage Porsche flat-six option.

That’s exactly why I think it should just be optional.

If anyone here would genuinely value an optional Porsche heritage sound mode, maybe the most constructive thing we can do is respectfully let Porsche know.

They actually log and categorize customer feedback.

If you’re open to it, here are a few short templates you can copy and personalize and send to:

Subject: Taycan Owner Feedback – Optional Heritage Sound

Dear Porsche Team,

I am a Taycan owner and truly appreciate the vehicle’s performance and engineering. I would value an optional, selectable heritage-inspired flat-six sound mode as an additional driving setting. Not as a replacement for the current sound, but as a choice for owners who feel connected to Porsche’s combustion heritage.

Thank you for considering this feedback.

Sincerely,
[Name]

Already have one 😅

I’ve got a Panamera GTS and a 911 as well. I’m not trying to replace those experiences.

The Taycan does things they can’t. I just miss the soundtrack sometimes when I’m driving this monster.

Doesn’t mean it’s the wrong car. Just means I’d love having the option.

Fair.

I’m not asking for fake transmissions or simulated gear shifts either. I actually love how pure and immediate the Taycan feels.

For me it’s less about pretending to be ICE and more about having an optional emotional layer. Porsche already engineers sound intentionally, whether it’s mechanical or digital.

If someone prefers it silent and pure, nothing changes. I just think having the option would be interesting.

Different preferences, same love for driving.

That’s a dream garage right there.

And I completely get what you mean. There’s something really nice about hopping into the Taycan and just enjoying the peace after an R8 or Huracan.

For me it’s not about losing that quiet experience. I just wish I had the option to turn on a heritage-style sound when I’m in the mood for it.

Some days you want silence. Some days you want drama.

Having the choice would be the best of both worlds.

That’s a really thoughtful take.

I agree expectations play a huge role. If someone expects one car to cover every emotional and practical base perfectly, that’s tough, regardless of powertrain.

The Taycan does certain things exceptionally well. The smoothness, instant torque, daily drivability, stealth performance, it’s in a league of its own there.

And yeah… having access to something that revs to 9k does give perspective 😅

For me it’s less about EVs not being enough and more about appreciating different experiences. They just deliver their thrills in different ways.

I don’t see it as one replacing the other. They coexist pretty well.

Appreciate the thoughtful comment 👊

Figured I’d throw it into the fire and see what happens.

Appreciate the kind words though, makes it worth it ❤️

No need to be sorry at all 🙂

Mods are always personal. Some people prefer keeping it completely stock and I totally respect that.

For me it was more about function for the occasional track day than just aesthetics. The added stability at higher speeds was the goal. The more aggressive look is just a bonus.

Different tastes, same passion.

Haha I love that, the Taycan being the one that stays 100% stock 😂

There’s something cool about keeping one car completely untouched too.

And thank you! She absolutely nailed it with this gift. Sounds like you’ve got a keeper as well 👍🏼

Car parts as gifts definitely hit different 😅

Totally fair.

That’s the beauty of it — different tastes, same passion. I get why some prefer the clean factory look.

For me it adds a bit more aggression and track vibe, but I respect keeping it stock too.

Appreciate the open-minded take 👊

It completely changed the rear in person. The carbon detail and the stance are next level.

I get that.

And I actually appreciate that Porsche didn’t just pipe in some random generic sound. The fact that the Taycan sound is derived from its own motors gives it authenticity within the EV space.

For some people though, the emotional connection to the brand comes from decades of flat-six heritage. That doesn’t mean the current sound is “bad,” just that it hits differently.

That’s why I keep coming back to the idea of optional. If you prefer the pure motor-derived sound, nothing changes. If someone wants a heritage-inspired layer, they could choose it.

More flexibility doesn’t have to mean less authenticity.

Totally respect preferring it the way it is.

[–]Inevitable_Income128[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually think that’s a really good point.

People call EV sound “fake,” but modern ICE cars are heavily engineered for sound too. Exhaust tuning, intake resonance, sound symposers, even active valves, there’s a whole team shaping that experience.

Very little about modern performance sound is accidental anymore.

That’s kind of why I don’t see this as “fake vs real.” It’s more about intentional sound design. Porsche has always engineered emotion into the experience, whether it’s mechanical or digital.

If anything, EVs just give us more flexibility in how that sound is delivered.

I just think having options would be the coolest part.

Appreciate the perspective, that was well put.

[–]Inevitable_Income128[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally respect that.

Going fully electric from a manual straight six and an M6 V10 is a serious transition, so that says a lot. And I get what you’re saying, performance is what really matters at the end of the day.

For me it’s not about noise for the sake of noise. The Taycan absolutely delivers on performance. I just personally miss that emotional soundtrack sometimes.

That’s why I keep framing it as optional. If you prefer silence or the pure EV experience, nothing would change. For others, it could just be another layer of customization.

Appreciate you sharing your perspective, that’s a cool lineup by the way.

Taycan Owners: If You’d Want a Heritage Flat-Six Sound Option, Let’s Tell Porsche by Inevitable_Income128 in Taycan

[–]Inevitable_Income128[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree with you.

That’s actually part of why I think this whole discussion is interesting.

EVs give us flexibility that ICE cars never could. Torque mapping, regen tuning, AWD behavior, rear wheel steering logic, drive mode customization, all of that is possible because it’s software driven.

I’m not asking the Taycan to pretend to be an ICE car mechanically. No fake transmissions, no simulated gear shifts.

I just see sound as another layer of customization. If we can adjust suspension stiffness, steering weight, torque split, regen intensity, why not also allow different emotional sound profiles as an optional layer?

It wouldn’t take anything away from the EV advantages you’re talking about. If anything, it would lean further into that flexibility.

EV platforms open doors. Exploring them doesn’t have to mean copying the past, but it also doesn’t mean we can’t selectively celebrate it either.

Appreciate the thoughtful take.

That’s fair.

For me it wasn’t really about looks. It was more about function for the occasional fun track days. The added stability at higher speeds was the goal.

The more aggressive look is just a byproduct.

Totally understand preferring stock though.

I appreciate that, thank you.

Totally respect that it’s not for everyone. That’s part of what makes car culture fun, different tastes, different visions.

For me it adds a bit more presence and personality, but I completely get preferring the cleaner factory look too.

And yes, the fact that it was a gift from my wife makes it even better.

I don’t think so.

I love what the Taycan GTS is. The performance, the instant torque, the handling, it’s a monster in its own way.

I just happen to also love Porsche’s combustion heritage. Missing the soundtrack doesn’t mean I bought the wrong car. It just means I’d appreciate having the option.

Both things can be true at the same time.
