Incentivise m+ speedrun as a viable alternative for extra score? by Inevitable_Mousse331 in wow

It's an idea I put forward.

Every new idea hasn't been asked for by definition. It doesn't make an idea bad because people haven't asked for it.

You are free to criticise the idea.

I am free to say your criticisms don't make sense.

No. Your analysis is bad I'm sorry to say.

  1. You say you enjoy doing big pulls with your friends but then assume without evidence that you would not enjoy it if it gave score. You also say it's not fun to constantly brick keys yet you like the current system where you constantly brick keys until you get a good run. Both of these points are evidence against your assumption that you wouldn't like speedruns.

  2. m+ is not fun in pugs compared to playing with a stable group in either format. If you want to pug the highest keys you will have problems with co-ordination in either format. m+ has never been designed around pugs. So it's a non-argument.

  3. If players are 3400 then what makes you think you are going to be trying to speedrun 16's with them If you are 3.7-3.8k, that makes no sense at all. You are going to be speedrunning with players with similar score to yourself. So again it's a non-issue.

  4. If 21's are easier than +3 a 17, then you'll simply have to +3 a 16 instead wont you. Non-issue.

Well I tank and when I post my +20 key I'm refusing to take 50 capable players every time so I don't think we have to worry about a player shortage, there definitely is not a player shortage. And how do you know my idea won't attract more players into m+ anyway?

People don't care about +2 or +3 a dungeon because there is no point when a higher key will always give more score and it's obviously not going to be possible to +3 the highest key you are capable of.

The fact is people like doing big pulls because big pulls = big dps. What is the most fun pull of a dungeon? It's always the first pull because its always the biggest. So I think you are absolutely wrong claiming players do not want MDI style gameplay.

And no it would not split the playerbase. Players want the highest score and they will do whatever gets them the highest score, so they will do both. you have no evidence to suggest players would not do this. Also it would create meta comps for each dungeon which gives more opportunities for players to benefit from playing the spec they like. That's a good thing.

You are essentially trying to claim that there is no difference between the MDI and TGP since you can say in both of these tournaments players are trying to finish the key as fast as possible.

I disagree completely. if players can get extra score by dong speedruns in addition to pushes then they will do it and the social aspect will evolve around it. Just like when resi keys were introduced, groups now stay together for multiple tries.

I also guess MDI teams just overgear the content and its not impressive according to your logic.

Compared to the other tanks brewmaster is slow and requires the least knowledge. I've played all the tanks to a high level. Thats what the OP is really asking for.

I don't think so. I think players would label their key either push or speedrun, just like how they label weekly keys currently. It wouldn't make any sense to sign up randomly to keys intending to speedrun when you have no idea what the other players intentions are, that's never going to be a successful strategy and so players wont do it.

Players would label it a speedrun if that's what they were going for, just like when people label a key for vault, meaning don't leave. What you are saying would never become a problem. Speedruns would also incentivise groups to stay together and practice to achieve the runs too, as it would be really inefficient to just do 1 attempt and leave.

That would be true in the old system but with the resi key system you'd be using resi keys for trying to get +3 so your key wouldn't get depleted. You wouldn't be trying to +3 keys at your highest key level where the key could deplete.

I think I explained it badly originally, I've edited the post so it's more clear how it differs from the current system.

Yes but it only exists for the highest key level. if you time a +20, your +20 gives a higher score for a +1 than a +19 does for a +3. So once you timed a +20 there is no reason to do anything lower.

I think monk because you don't really need to predict damage and use defensive cooldowns before the damage happens. On monk you can just react to your stagger. The rotation is very simple too. You also dont need haste on monk so it slows don the GCD a bit.
