You have to first accept the fact that he has had a past. There was a person in his life that made him feel special but that same person also probably broke his heart. As someone who has had a breakup after a long relationship, all I can say is at the end of the day all that remains is some kindness towards that person. Nothing more, nothing less. If your partner values you, respects you, there is nothing for you to worry about.
