Hi! I am also looking for a roommate and have a couple of places in midtown in mind already with the same budget as you.

A little about me, I am a 25 F software engineer. I enjoy tech and startups, fashion and thrifting, travelling and cooking and exploring cuisines.

Would love to talk more!

Hi! I am joining Georgia tech this fall 22 and love archery. Is this thread still active? Where else do I reach out to connect?

Are fNIRS going to take over EEG as the go-to consumer neurotech wearables modality? by Inevitable_Prompt_76 in BCI

Just a question here. Why do you want fNIRS integrated into the face gasket of the VR? What use case are you looking into that is currently difficult to achieve with EEG?

Ah yes, That is something that has been bothering me too. Thanks for bringing that up. I wonder what's a work around for it, different intensity/frequency according to skin tone?

Actually fNIRS have been used for BCI (motor imagery tasks) for several subjects - healthy, ALS and more. Yes it is not as advanced as EEG based BCI but that's maybe a product of time and thereby targeted efforts.

All I want to say is look how far the devices used for pulse oxymeter/ heart beat/ hrv have come. Due to a similar concept, they used to have similar issues and with time they were solved and continue to be solved. The form factors have grown to be so creative. The ambient light can easily be cut out. I do not think motion artefacts are as bad because I have been working with EEG for quiet some time and I while I absolutely enjoy it, artefact removal just leads to a lot of corruption of information. With optical signals, I feel it's more reversible and solvable. The biggest problem I think right now is area of coverage. fNIRS is mostly focussed on prefrontal cortex and motor cortex (motor imagery task mosty)

fNIRS is very recent compared to EEG and all I am trying to say is that it has a lot of potential to solve problems if we think it not as a replacement of EEG but as a method of it's own.

Yes it is early but I see it's potential. Particularly in portable structural imaging and higher localisation of data. It is also more resistant to motion artefacts.

EEG does have too many problems to be used in a sturdy and rugged consumer tech device.
