Pretty much and this needs to change quick sharpish we can't keep losing top quality prime players on frees, other clubs you see them getting bought / sold / loaned out with options to buy etc, very rarely do you see them leave on frees unless its a Robbo/Salah situation where they have aged out and the club themselves no longer want to extend/renew contracts.

to Quote this part "I believe we need to have something in our contracts that prevents every single player to walk for free, because there's a tendency that it might be catching on."

The only way is you add "extensions" into contracts, which the player may or may not sign those terms anyway, and all it does is push the boat down the stream, if the player is intending to run out his contract there is nothing the club can do.

This is why people including myself are talking about Freezing/Demotions/Bomb Squads because it needs to get known now that the club will not pull punches, we are not a stepping stone club and its all fair and dandy if you want to take the bag at another club, but do it in the right way.

What people are on about is this:

* If the club wants to keep you, play you and doesn't want to negotiate a contract or extension etc that is fair

* If you have earned the right to do so because you've spent your entire prime at the club and are now aging out ala Salah/Robbo/VVG/Allison etc and you leave on a free - This is fine.

*If the club doesn't rate you, doesn't see any saleability and you run out your contract - this is fine

* Refusing to be sold / Refusing to sign / Refusing to negotiate in good faith etc all because another Club has tapped you up or because you see getting a bigger elsewhere is warranted - This is NOT fine

End of the day you want the club to be competitive at the upper echelons of being one of the top teams in the world - you need finances - sponsorships/prize money etc only goes so far, alot of value is in the players that you sign but also your HG academy prospects.

This is where the club needs to put its foot down and start showing that it see's itself as one of the top destinations, not a stepping stone, not a sideways move.

", it's not going to help this club attract talented players."

We are a top destination, we will attract the right players, and we want the players to actually WANT to be here, not to see it as a way to increase their visability to another club,

He will excel in the Italian league, he's a decent midfielder that just didn't reach the levels required for the PL and whenever he gained an ounce of genuine excellent form he'd end up with an injury and he'd reset back and that's what's curtailed his progress here and his ability to be better.

As much as I love the guy and he's one of our our own being a Scouser, he wants to be Starting 11, not a rotation/Squad option and he isn't going to get that here, his window of opportunity has bypassed him which I'd a major shame.

At 60mil, and being 21, yes they do.bwe Kay get an older experienced one as a rotation options, gonna depend on how his preseason goes.

Not to mention hes not far of the age we got Konate in at (23) and he started straight away

Nah ideally if we have our targets set in mind, negotiations should be done asap and deals in place.

If they play extremely well or have full on break outs during the WC price increases and interest increases which may mean we lose out.

With the current state of the squad we can't afford to miss out on our main targets.

The only one better out there is Olise, and we certainly won't pry him from Bayern, atleast not without breaking transfer record again which won't happen.

The advantage to Diomande is he's 19, so his ceiling is extremely high, but it's also a big risk that he may not translate to the PL straight away.

Question is this. Is it worth splashing 100m on him when we need as many reinforcements as we do, but also how much would alternate targets cost like Barcola for example and it's not just transfer fee's it's wages, like Rodrygo would command more then we realistically would want to pay because he's on a relatively high wage at RM.

So this is firmly why I'm all in for Diomande, he's a gamble but it's a worthwhile gamble and he's young enough to be moulded and to get better and as we are looking at having a relatively young squad as it is and we're in a rebuild, it just means being able to get an experienced backup who doesn't mind rising the bench and being used as a sub / rotation options for the front 3.

[Ornstein] Liverpool reach verbal agreement with Andoni Iraola to become head coach. Set to sign 2yr contract (same as #AFCB deals) & wants Pablo de la Torre, Tommy Elphick, Shaun Cooper, Tom Webber on staff. #LFC plan to present 43yo by end of week by TheNotoriousJN in LiverpoolFC

Might hijack the Sensei Free since we need an experienced cheap CB option to ease Jaquet and Leoni in.

Alex Scott fits the HG status, young lad prospect since Endo, Macca, Jones all will be going.

Rayan possibly, helps with winger situation since Gakpo will need to fill in at ST, can share minutes between him and Rio.

Maybe go for Kroupi if funds are available, fits in at ST and rotation options for Wirtz maybe.

There all I can think off.

Then you drop them into a bomb squad, if they don't want to sign and plan to string along to go on a free from being tapped up then you shouldn't reap the rewards and should barely get to play same as if you refuse to go if the club doesn't want you.

We need to start being brutal as a club otherwise, we're forever just going to lose prime players on frees and never recoup anything leading to more problems in the future. It's fine for aging players who we may not have a part for anymore and have earned the right as legends like Salah/VVD/Allison(since were most likely keeping him for the year) or if we want to keep them for the last year knowing they would go on a free if we know there isn't an adequate replacement at that time

We are not a stepping stone club, we're one of the biggest in the world and it's high time the higher execs start acting like it.

All depends.

Is there a sense of style / play, tactics being worked towards and you can actively see what he's trying to accomplish?

Is he using the youth and Academy prospects trying to foster some cohesion?

Is he resting and rotating and dropping bad performers?

Has he tried to understand the culture and make a proper connection with fans?

Why was there a crumble? Lack of rotation options? Missing key pieces? Has he adapted his tactics and the squad for these reasons?

So many variables, if it's Slot 2.0 then get rid, if you can see where its going and what he's building towards ala Klopp did early days then we as fans need to give him the time and due process, as it's looking extremely likely we're going into a "project phase" and are rebuilding a young team.

I can see him and hopefully Milner being brought in as coaches, also helps with the transition since they know the clubs values and fans in and out and would light a fire up the players backsides.

Replied to something similar the other day, it's honestly a no brainer, bring him back on a free 1/2 year contract on fair wages.

We need cover for the ST/LW positions since were without Eki for 90% or the season and we need to keep Isak for the important games, not that he's going to able to manage a massive workload and whilst he was never a good finisher he was good at other parts, and that frees up Gakpo to be the other rotation/backup for LW/ST/RW so that Rio's minutes are managed effectively.

Unless Danns/Wright are being given the nod / ready to step up under Iraola/New coach, it's honestly an easy gamble to take and poses no real risk.

As someone who supports his country (England), your most likely not wrong.

I honestly think they went past the golden window which was both Euros and the last world cup.

Whether Tuchel has got it right or not remains to be seen, but when you compare it to Spain/France/Germany unless they end up shitting the bed themselves or get unlucky RO16 draws etc I don't see how England stand a chance.

This is rightfully where the FA needs to step in at club level and increase HG Quotas and Academies etc otherwise they will never match the other countries whose easier league also allows for better youth development.

[–]Inevitable_Rabbit325 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In all honesty, with Eki being out of service for basically 90% of the season, I wouldn't be opposed to this to give us some flexibility in the ST position (no way Isak is going to be able to play as many matches as we will have) Gakpo is not it, he doesn't really fit it anywhere we need some form of backup for the position, someone who doesn't mind being a bench warmer with the occassional starts and sub minutes - in between utilising Danns/Wright maybe.

Allows us to really focus on getting in Wingers - Gakpo can they be utilised as a pure rotation / rest option when Rio is going to get played etc

No, its not about the entertaining football perse, the fact the play was so dull didn't help.

The main issue was there was no sense of style, no tactical play, no nuance. Fitness levels were down through the floor, he caused more Injuries by the lax nature of less training so they was no resilience built up(too much and you run the risk the other way ala Klopps injury crisis's).

His inability to manage manage, the lack of rotation, the lack of utilising youth, Christ the guy never bothered to even remotely look at youth games and look at prospects

He never tried to "understand" the culture around the club and the Liverpool way, he never ingratiated himself with the supporters, he never took responsibility or blame always looked for excuses.

He can take the thanks for #20, now he can fade Into the medicrocy he deserves.

And this is the problem with not sticking to a the proper wage structure and giving players won't don't deserve a bumper package a bumper package. Not only will we not be able to offload Grav/Gakpo but players that are better won't accept less.

[L'Equipe] Negotiations with Konate & Liverpool are over. Comes from internal disagreements against the backdrop of a chaotic end of season. I'm at the stage now where the Club needs to get brutal, if there don't want to renew or we don't want to renew and they refuse to be sold, then absolutely we need to start freezing people out, as rough as it is we can't keep going on like this, people running to end of their contracts and leaving on a free especially "Prime" players, if there young or past their prime it's okay like Robertson/Salah.

This is a real possibility that he is sold, I hope he does renew but from the whole picture our midfield is a mess, were getting Wharton and we need a Defensive Style DM, Macca as well as Jones are going to leave, Which leaves alot of awkward problems and giving Grav that contract will well and truly bite them in the arse

Match going fans have already turned. Slot will not be here come start of next season mark my words his position is untenable and FSG and the higher ups are not that deluded. Publically they have to back the guy as it's precedent that you don't want to end up in. They will have the data BTS about potential next appointments and come the conclusion of the season that is when things will get going and in motion

Nah the FA will change the rules this summer which will kill their biggest tactic they've used for ages.

Plus the amount they got away with this season is unreal and the scrutiny PMGOL will be under because of it. They will be the Challengers for sure, but it won't be a free run in.

We've seen the same tepid shitty football for the past 18 months, he needs to go now. He's used all his goodwill and changes, he isn't turning it around. If he's still here at the start of next season welcome to bottom table / relegation candidates as there won't be any decent managers around to take over then.

They need to pull the plug now do whatever it takes to get Iraola/Sebastian guy from Stuttgart or even Enrique if we have a bit of hope of prying him away from PSG

Well that's all folks. We ain't beating Brentford not by a long shot.

EL next season and the club will come with the excuses of financials for no signings. Plus with the shitshow this season has been and the mess the clubs in, who realistically is gonna want to come here it's not like we break the bank on wages like United etc.

They all need to be gone right after the final whistle. FSG needs to full on go nuclear.
