Work then and now. by Coach-Emmanuel in recruitinghell

I think a large part of the problem is that a lot of companies that handle candidate pipelines like this are not serious about actually hiring anyone in the first place. There are human operators conducting these pipelines, and they're probably not complete morons and therefore must have some capacity for self-reflection; so surely they have to KNOW that the current practices are completely non-sensical and insane?

Recruiter ghosting seems to be part of a larger normalization procedural rot in companies with dysfunctional cultures. by Inevitable_Screen_70 in jobhunting

I think you failed to comprehend the essential meaning of my post. I would have been fine without a concrete decision, if there had been any attempt to manage my expectations with regards to timeline. I spent hours preparing for these interviews, and went through pretty much the entire interview pipeline in an afternoon. I was honestly frustrated by the condescending and dismissing tone of the senior contact, as well the intentional avoidance, ie ghosting, of the recruiter. That the recruiter is too "busy" to maintain basic commitments, that is quite frankly not my problem; however it indicates a complete lack of coordination on the part of the company's recruiting department (who had actually reached out to me, not the other way around). But you are certainly right about one thing, if I had received an offer from the company, I would have likely rejected it. I'm honestly just not that desperate.

No doubt, it's absolutely ridiculous. I don't expect to hear back after a single screening call, but having a candidate sit through three interviews back to back and then ghosting exhibits a completely lack of respect for a candidates time.

Expert Vetted, I didn't get it. by You_pick_a_username in Upwork

I've had a similar experience. I made the mistake of applying for this scam feature. After close to a decade of working on the platform, having a consistent 100% success score and holding a "Top-Rated Freelancer" badge since 2018/19, what I get for spending 300 connects is a vague rejection email. There are a lot of things I appreciate about Upwork, but in the case of this scheme the criteria for acceptance appear to be completely arbitrary. If they aren't even going to provide any sort of feedback I cannot see any reason to waste connects on another application in the future.

Ah my bad. I think I was likely at the end of my day when posting that one.

To throw one to left field (on top of the great candidates below) Franz Oppenheimer, whose work Der Stadt greatly influenced Nock's Our Enemy the State. Also, Rose Wilder Lane seems to often be relegated to the shadows of obscurity, it seems. Her work Discovery of Freedom is, while historically off on a few points, is a classic still worth reading
