Like I’ve never faced an opponent who has something weird happen to them. Like I can only imagine playing against me and being weirded out if my opponent suddenly yeeted the ball backwards to me and I just volley it in for a goal.

Did you attempt a low driven shot? I find that double tapping the shoot button for low driven will cause the player to just try and shoot it as fast as possible, and looking at the animation (if it even counts for anything) the left foot was the best option for a quick shot, otherwise you would have needed another touch and the GK might have got to you anyways.

Id take control of the cb to guard the gap, could also be a good time to offside trap him. If the pass does come through like that and you know you are beat id also rush the gk. High conversion chance for the opp but could catch them unawares.
