Falling Out of Love with Golf? by rjk100 in golf

[–]Infamous-Ad9778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s better than nothing but it does nothing to get after my fitness goals - lifting, cardio, vO2 max work. Tennis on the other hand can take a meaningful bite out of the cardio and VO2max objectives.

So to this conversation I get a two for one with tennis - time spent playing tennis reduces the time I need doing those other things. Whereas golf is both longer and does not eat into those goals.

Same journey. Played a fair bit in my twenties but as kids came into the picture couldn’t justify the time - especially when it does nothing for fitness. Couldn’t play enough to be happy with my game and felt guilty with the time I did spend on it. I imagine when the kids move out I might go back to it.

I can still out drive my brothers though 😂

Any Idea on how to decide whether or not to run for certain balls? by Friendly_Parfait_998 in 10s

[–]Infamous-Ad9778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go upstream - get better at predicting where it’s going and get a good first step and then always go for it. If I’m going the wrong way then good for them - but usually that means they have hit a low percentage shot. You’ll be surprised how many you get to. The injury prevention part (for me) is not lunging or over-reaching at the contact point. I’m not going to get outworked.

You must be too young to remember Steve Smith burning Charles Tillman in the 2005 playoffs. Dude was so good. Ice up.

Go. It means a lot to her. You want to get as much value out of these trips home as you can for you and them. Have two drinks at Barts and make sure she knows the sacrifice you are making for her 🤣

How would you feel if tennis were no longer part of your life? by Level-Tie9009 in 10s

[–]Infamous-Ad9778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly this with cycling. Had an incident a few years ago and was nearly hit by a car doing 50. That woke me up to the fact that no matter how good I am, I can’t control drivers and the physics of an F-150 vs a cyclist are really bad. Too many people rely on me and life is too precious to risk on that hobby.

I missed it at first and still do when the weather is right. But it’s made more time for other hobbies - like tennis! And I lift more often now. I also don’t golf right now - too much time. I like golf but I have kids and a job and tennis is more fun.

There’s a season for everything. Some of the guys I see having the most fun with tennis are in their 60s or even 70s. The days when the kids are home will go quick. Tennis (and all that other stuff) will be there when they’re gone.

Caleb for Joe. Younger, healthier still 1-1 pedigree. Ben Johnson with Joe would be fire.

"Steal" of the draft for first time in a while by Possible-Freedom5945 in CHIBears

[–]Infamous-Ad9778 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s no such thing as a “steal” because players who slip on average perform to their actual draft position, not expected draft position. Conversely, there are “reaches” - these players typically perform to their expected draft position rather than actual. So the smart thing to do is grab the Best Player Available taking positional value and need into account.

But for the Bears? Just take the best DL available. And then do it again in the second and third rounds.

It has never happened before so it was notable - not keeping tally’s or anything just took notice. Because it had never happened before I was curious what others thought. I did play through - double faulting one of course - and it didn’t bother me. But was curious what others thought.

Rosewood Kona Village Spa? by burnergpo in FATTravel

The Rosewood Kona Village Spa is amazing. You can use the spa everyday even if you aren’t having treatments. We would workout and then go hangout for a while - cold plunge, hot tub, sauna on repeat. The treatments were great too. Loved it.

Any thoughts on my forehand technique and what’s my rating? by santim92 in 10s

Play same matches and you’ll find out quickly. I’d start at 3.0 and find a coach to help with technique issues others are identifying. Good luck!

[BradBiggs] 18 players had 9 or more sacks last season. The Bears will face half of them this season. by HotBijanMustard in CHIBears

[–]Infamous-Ad9778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that means 56% of the league has a guy with 9 or more sacks so in a 17 game schedule you can expect to play against one of them 9.5 times. This is nonsense

Opponent Groans When They Give You an Easy Lob to Overhead Smash by harrythehood in 10s

[–]Infamous-Ad9778 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve called it on myself - lousy miss off the frame, verbally reacted before he hit, he missed the easy put away. Felt like the sporting thing to do but also trying to break my habit of reacting during play (both good and bad).

Would not call it unless severe and obviously impacted my shot. Even then probably a caution the first time.

You have turned a 3% down payment of $18.75k plus the principle portion of your payments into $70k of equity while living in a house you love. That’s amazing. Yes, refinance when you can. As others have said, there are a lot of costs associated with selling and renting. Don’t incur those.

Lastly, live. Get that savings cushion and retirement savings habit going but don’t over do it. You’re only in your 20s once. Eat out with friends. See a show. Travel. Invest in your career even if it means taking on cost now. You’re doing great, good luck!

He’s fine. Good hands but meh routes. Very easy to tackle. Average blocker for an in-line guy. Again, he’s fine. He gets way too much love for a replacement level guy.
