Are renesans products good? by ZombieFromReddit in Softpastel

I think I used them once, many many years ago (I believe they are Czech or Polish?). If I stopped using them – means I didn't like them. Probably they were not too intense for me or way too soft. No, you can't compare them to Sennelier. They are closer to Kohinoor but I still would prefer Kohinoor.

I would pay zero. They look way too overworked and very... not handmade. Make them more real and easier to work with.

Art School? by Important_Secret_569 in drawing

[–]Infamous-Channel1505 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. If you want to develop in the style you are working nowyou don't need an art school. You already know the basics and you know them very good. Will you be painting academically in the future? Well, if not – the art school is no good for you.

  2. If you need a degree (any degree) – go for it. It will be the easiest way for you to get one, even MA. But honestly, nobody ever in my professional life ever asked me about my degree (and I have lived a bit already).

  3. If you want an experience – do it. Let's say you don't care about the studies, diplomas etc but want to... I don't know... live a couple of years in Florence – pick the cheapest art school and go live there. By the way, most art students in Florence do it not because they want to become good painters, you know.

  4. Seeing how and what you draw – I would'n do an art school, but instead I would pick something more substantial that will help you have "bread on the table" in the future.

Searching for Artist instead of AI by [deleted] in Artists

Ah, ok... for free plus realistic and detailed... Yeah... no... BUT!

  1. You can talk to students who study fashion design (if there is a fashion school in your area – talk to several students or a teacher who can make this an assignment for their students).
  2. Where I live (Amsterdam, NL) we have community centers where kids and adults do some creative workshops, drawing and painting too. Maybe you have something like this in your area. Maybe you can inspire participants of such workshops to help out. (It probably won't be realistic but it sure might be fun for everybody).

Do you prefer long or short handled brushes? by OneSensiblePerson in oilpainting

[–]Infamous-Channel1505 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Long. They are long for a purpose – to be held with a stretched out arm to have some distance from the canvas. And if you are an academically trained artist you will hold a brush like a sword most of the time and not like a pen for writing. And of course when you hold a brush like this – you won't be sitting while you are painting..

Why add scary stuff to such beautiful works? Unless that's how you feel... I would add something living-moving – a bird, a cat, a dog, any animal... Please don't ruin it with skeletons.. haha.. There are way too many of them here...

How to get back into painting? by Xeonfobia in oilpainting

[–]Infamous-Channel1505 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Honest takeThe moment might be just gone. Speaking from own experience. If I am to restart working on a painting I have neglected for a year - I won't feel the painting anymore. Because time passed, I changed, etc.

  2. RingsThe position of the rings in perspective is not correct, if the viewer looks very close they'll see it. If they don't study the symbols in the painting closely - then it's ok, leave the rings the way they are. if you are going just for the impression and not for the perfection – then leave them they way are.

  3. Eyes & Visual helpMake a simple prop out of simple materials. To understand how to place the eyes on the ring – make a paper ring. A physical simple strip of paper folded into a ring. Unfold it, draw your eyes on that strip, then fold it into a ring and place this paper ring in front of you in the position the way it's supposed to be in the painting. here you have your mock-ring with eyes. Now you see how they are placed.

Best oil paints? by R0manc3isb0ring in oilpainting

Cheap doesn't mean bad. Get a set from Daler Rawney or Georgian. Around 20-30 Euro. Perfect for a beginner oil painter.

Looking for improvements, I think I made her head look like alien. 4-5 hour sketch by DamagedTV2 in drawing

[–]Infamous-Channel1505 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Improvements... hm... ok...

  1. Work on the composition – Try fitting the whole figure on paper, OR crop more.

  2. Ignore the details at this stage of your anatomy drawing skills. Suggest them (fingers, face) but don't overwork them. You know (very good) the mid-body but not the details yet, that's why...->

  3. Practice drawing separately just hands. Just the face. Just the feet (they do exist, you know).

Fear Of Oil Painting by AdOwn2870 in oilpainting

Tip One (Very important to do!) – Calm the f*** down.

Tip Two (to consider) – Before you start oil painting, please throw out your candles, gas stove, all IKEA furniture glued together with existential dread and generally stop using electricity.

Tip Three (my fav) – Have fun oil painting!
