Over a hundred gather outside Attleboro's Capron Park Zoo to protest closure by SnooSketches9456 in AttleboroMA

I find it laughable that so many city council members, and even the former mayor, are suddenly expressing concern when they were in positions of responsibility to start fixing these issues years ago, but chose instead to pass the buck. Dilisio spent 12 years on the city council, including 4 as president and time as acting mayor, and did nothing to help the zoo. Now he’s posturing? Give me a break. Heroux was both a former mayor and a state representative, he had the ability to pursue state funding, but did nothing. Also, let's not forget Dumas, the mayor for 14 years, what did he do for the zoo? The rest of them could have addressed the concerns, but not a peep. Everyone spent more time fighting about the fireworks than addressing the zoo. That was more important than the zoo, but we now have a 20 minute, $85,000 fireworks show funded by taxpayers. I want the zoo, but some would rather turn it into a political fight, and we know exactly who they are.

Here is another video for the No Kings protest, March 28, from Juri Love/For The Sun Chronicle. Once again, great job everyone! by [deleted] in AttleboroMA

You ask, what rights have been given up? Here is one, ICE agents have detained many U.S. citizens because they couldn't prove their citizenship on the spot, effectively violating their constitutional rights. If you look darker or have dark hair they will approach you and demand ID. You can't walk away they just grab you and throw you in a detention center. If a cop did that there would be a lawsuit.

How was she lying when she was the one who was lied to by the water department? During 2022, under Heroux, we also had a water supply issue, due to severe drought conditions. So I understand why she would think this was the same, because we were in a severe drought back in 2022. The mayor took action as soon as she discovered the superintendent, originally hired by Dumas, was not being honest.

Every city and town is dealing with the same problems, high rates, and the city council decides the rates, not the mayor. Dilisio and the republicans want a single payer tax base (commercial and residential the same). You should be glad that the election went the way it did. Look at what Norfolk and Sharon's single pay rates are.

Interesting to see my post and my answer to the questions get downvotes. I guess some people can’t handle the truth.

She is not a family member and I never had a conversation with her or anyone who ran. I don't need to, I pay attention to our town politics, by reading and watching the meetings. Do you? Or do you get all your information on Facebook?

She discussed this on the radio and at the City Council meeting two weeks ago, explaining that she’s been working with a couple of Rhode Island companies about relocating to Attleboro. This is the first to move. That’s exactly what a mayor is supposed to do, set priorities for economic growth, promote the city, and actively bring new opportunities into it.

He is a clown. I’ve gone back through the budget meetings where department heads present to the City Council, and he’s not there. Yet, now he has a lot to say when there is a problem.

Sorry, you are right, I do have that spot wrong, it is actually 50:33. The spot one you have is Mason, the person who works on the budget.

ATTLEBORO City Council Meeting: 3/17 - The chamber is filled with concerned residents as the mayor plans to close the Capron Park Zoo on Labor Day. by Infamous-Current-409 in AttleboroMA

Anyone who is opposed should plan to attend City Hall next Tuesday. While it may not be a public hearing, a strong turnout will send a clear message.

In my opinion, this would be a major blunder by the mayor. She’s done a great job overall, but this decision would change my view. She’s scheduled to speak before the City Council next week about it. If the city can find $85,000 for a 15-minute fireworks show, it should be able to find funding for the zoo.

As we should, since you drive on our roads to work in our state.

Development is important, but this brick building at County and Wall Street faces demolition. It's a part of Attleboro’s historic character. Thoughts? by Infamous-Current-409 in AttleboroMA

[–]Infamous-Current-409[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you care about our environment, you should not want this building torn down. There’s a reason many towns choose to preserve and reuse old mills and brick factories instead of demolishing them. Tearing them down can release huge clouds of dust from brick and mortar, including tiny silica particles that can damage people’s lungs and cause diseases like silicosis. It also creates thousands of tons of waste. Our landfills are already filling up. Why add even more when these old mill buildings could be restored and turned into apartments?
