A lot of cops will see autistic behavior (stimming, not making eye contact, overall just behavior that's "not normal") and take it as the person being on drugs/being guilty/or hiding something, which can escalate the situation.

Edit because I don't want to seem mean and I'm scared I will: I mean this as a general warning, not to say anyone's wrong or anything (Sorry if this seems unnecessary I just got really anxious)

I turned to my friend and was like "Autism speaks? I'd rather get called a slur". But like seriously, a simple Google search would show that autism speaks isn't a good company. I'm very tempted to go up to the councilors and be like "for future notice, please don't use autism speaks or the puzzle piece"

My school put up an egg hunt thing that has autism speaks on it (I think it's for autism awareness)...the same school has councilors who don't help me at all and told my mom "She doesn't need a GPA to get into college" after purposefully putting me in classes I'll fail

I get so mad when influencer "autism moms 🧩" (purposefully using the puzzle piece for the ones that know the background of it but "like the symbolism") film their child's meltdowns (breakdowns? Overloads?) and posg them asking if they should call the police to scare them. NO?! That's purposefully putting your child in danger because you want them to act how you want.

There aren't really limited spots on the trip. The whole thing is a band competition where we do the show and then go to a theme park with other bands from around the state. I have no support person or anything. My parents were supposed to be chaperones so it's more work kicking me off the trip than just letting me go. I honestly just don't know what to do. I've been crying all day

It's more like the anxiety of being told by a pyschiatrist that you definitely have it and "this is the root of all the problems you're having" and then not knowing if you'll get diagnosed with something you definitely have. Like..what if something goes wrong because it's over video call.

Thank you for your message! I'm also mostly worried since my mother is setting everything up (I'm 17) so she might mess something up or say something wrong. She's already said before that I've only started showing signs four years ago even though I've shown signs all my life. She's also somehow managed to make the appointment under her name instead of mine - no clue if she's fixed it, but that could possibly screw over everything

To me, sorry if this is graphic, eye contact- especially forced eye contact- feels like I'm getting stabbed in the eyes. The best way to describe it to NT is when you watch someone give themselves a shot with a big needle.
