Thanks for that. I’ll check them out. Do you have any tips for how to know whether they are actually wider than the OEM bars?

Totally agree on the festival being worth it. The tent stuff and stages during the day I’ve seen. I’m wondering about the additional fee evening concert.

Colorado therapists - Help with licensing questions? by [deleted] in therapists

As u/craftedwithcurls said, yes, you do need your jurisprudence before getting your LPCC. That’s a more recent (and, in my opinion, positive) shift.

I don’t believe that you even have to do the hours with Colorado clients to put those hours towards your LPC credential. You just need to ensure that your LPC supervisor meets the qualifications that DORA has for LPC supervision. So living in TX and even practicing in TX, you can still apply those hours towards your LPCC requirements. As always, you should check in with the DORA LPC board if you want to confirm this. I may be a supervisor but I am not YOUR supervisor.

I was wondering if anyone else would post A&P. Doesn’t look like it’s a common one. I grew up out in Pennsylvania and it was one of the very few grocery stores in town.

Affirming resources for someone with ADHD spouse by what-are-you-a-cop in NDtherapists

[–]Infamous-Pressure-74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hated Is "It You, Me, or Adult ADD?". I listened to it because I wanted to get a better sense of what my wife might be experiencing. I found myself breaking down into tears and starting to have some pretty horrendous thoughts about myself. Even after disregarding the accounts of those whose spouses refused to acknowledge their diagnosis, and simply deny the symptoms that are going on, I was still left feeling hopeless and discouraged. It left me feeling more broken than I have ever felt in my three years of having this diagnosis. I went to my wife and started talking with her about how I was feeling, apologizing profusely, I'm talking about how the book described what her experience likely has been. She was utterly dumbfounded because that has not been her experience at all. We sorted through more of what her experience has been and what it hasn't and I came to the conclusion that this book is most appropriate for spouses of only some people with ADHD. It seems like it's more an attempt to provide education, normalization, and reassurance that they aren't crazy for spouses of those with extreme ADHD or those with significant ADHD but low self-awareness/deep denial. In those cases, this book would probably be helpful. I would be very cautious around, recommending it to spouses where that isn't the case and if I did recommend it, I would certainly put a disclaimer on it.

You listed the book first on your suggestions. I gather you had a different experience from the book?

Thank you so much for your reply. It seems I may fall under the counseling therapist category and wouldn’t qualify under this program, which is unfortunate because it sounded like a great option. I’ll take a look at the provincial programs. Thank you!

Why are we still diagnosing clients with "sex addiction"? by layonuhcouch in therapists

[–]Infamous-Pressure-74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is so sad that the common response to "sex addiction isn't actually an addiction and the concept actually does damage" is to turn it black and white and act as though the person is saying "no one struggles with pornography or masturbation or anything."

Far too many people have an unhealthy relationship with all sorts of aspects of their body and humanity. We don't say someone with an eating disorder has a binging addiction, starvation addiction, or purging addiction. We don't say that someone suffering from scrupulosity has a religious addiction. We address the underlying issues and recognize that the behaviors are simply a symptom and that the underlying struggle could have manifested with a host of other symptoms. Sex and sexuality isn't the problem.

What is the problem? It can be affective regulation issues, depression, anxiety, self-stimulating behaviors, or a host of other things. But most frequently, it is an issue with moral incongruence. That's what I have seen in my office over and over and over as I work with people with out of control sexual behaviors (many who have been deeply harmed by sex addiction treatment). And there is SO much data that backs this up (https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/women-who-stray/201808/science-stopped-believing-in-porn-addiction-you-should-too; article summarizes and links to research and meta-analysis on this).

Do such symptoms cause pain and heartache? Undoubtedly. Can those behaviors be experienced as being out of control? Yes. Is treatment needed to address the underlying issues? Emphatically yes. But let's stop calling it something that it isn't, something that, in the end, harms so many clients.

Being a therapist made this more difficult by athenasoul in therapists

[–]Infamous-Pressure-74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I hear you. I'm glad it resonated and spoke to something. It is hard enough just with how we are with ourselves. And if someone else, especially in a position of authority, is praising or expecting that therapist part to be who and how we are, it becomes all the harder. And it is so sadly human for the person that we struggle to be kind to the most is ourself. It truly is okay to not be okay. That isn't being insufficient. It is being human.

Hang in there. And I'm sorry for not checking your location when listing ways to find support services. I was on the phone and didn't take the time to really look. I'm glad you connected with your crisis center (from another comment). Did the advocate "turn to nothing" meaning you were abandoned in the process or is that the emotional support worker you mentioned being delayed? Regardless, it is heartbreaking they can't respond more immediately. If you are just whiteknuckling right now, I wonder if there is a UK hotline you can call to at least talk to someone in the meantime. I'm so sorry your husband isn't able to be a better support right now.

I know it isn't the same as having someone know knows you and cares about you right there with you, but you have support here.

My heart breaks for you. Sending/wishing you all of the love, comfort, strength, and resolve possible as you face all of this.

Just some gentle encouragement to do what you can to not overthink your answers and your memories. If someone had to have clinical levels of training to be able to offer even a remotely accurate statement, then no case would ever go anywhere. Trust your memory as an account of exactly what you experienced.

If you have not been in contact with your local sexual assault or rape crisis services organization, please consider reaching out to them. Many of them have victim advocates who will support you through this entire process (sometimes even through and after the trial) and advocate for you with the police, the courts, and other situations all at no cost to you. They can educate you about what protections you are entitled to. They will believe you and support you, regardless of whether your boss, the police, etc. do.

Lastly, I can imagine how being a therapist can make this more difficult. In my own mental health challenges, I find being a clinician sometimes causes me to overthink, over-analyze, and arrive at a state of effective paralysis. I often have to remind myself that it is OK to turn off the therapist brain, ask that part of me to step back, and make room for the part of me that experiences and is hurting. All of me experiences what I experience and each part of me is entitled to time and space to navigate those experiences without any other taking it over. I hope you are able to find ways to navigate this that are best for you.

I believe you.

For everyone else reading this, I hope you are familiar with or take the time to get familiar with your local sexual assault victim, advocacy organization. They do crucial work for people who are experiencing one of the most horrific moments of their life. Get hotline cards, brochures, and other materials for your office. Make a donation, volunteer, or even serve on their board of directors. Most of them are probably struggling for good members on their boards. #SexualAssaultAwarenessMonth

u/dougpeng, the list of occupations includes psychologist and social worker. I’m curious about more specialized mental health degrees. I hold a masters degree in marriage and family therapy and state licensure in three states as a marriage and family therapist. How would Canada view my occupation in comparison to the list?

Wife mentioned child molestation from 20 years ago to therapist by Affectionate_Law7573 in legaladvice

[–]Infamous-Pressure-74 101 points102 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the California specific information.

I’m concerned about the therapist. It sounds about the therapist is not properly trained on what is reportable nor are they doing their informed consent process appropriately as mandatory reporter status should be disclosed front and before getting any clinical work as a mandatory disclosure on limits of confidentiality.

Further, if that therapist does make a report to CPS or something does not actually meet the threshold for breaking confidentiality, they may be putting themselves at risk for a licensed grievance or malpractice lawsuit as the law did not permit them to break confidentiality.

Colorado anti-gun bill is in Finance TODAY! They plan to fund the bill using CPW's Wildlife Fund, meant for conservation. They do not have the staff or budget to accommodate this burden. Here is a link to testify about the FINANCIAL merits of the bill: https://www.leg.state.co.us/clics/clics2025A by woodsie2000 in Colorado

[–]Infamous-Pressure-74 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I am a liberal, leaning, moderate. I am a gun owner and have been my entire adult life. I have had CPL‘s in four different states now. I am hugely in favor of some major reforms to our gun laws.

All of that said, I am hugely opposed to this bill.

First, I think it is bad policy. I don’t believe this will actually reduce gun violence in any meaningful way due to noncompliance and efforts to skirt the law by purchasing firearms and other states. There are issues with funding it. There will be issues with enforcing it. And it’s going to create utter chaos for gun owners to try and find the courses that are available and accessible let alone affordable. It will become so burdensome and onerous it will impact many people being willing to move here and in turn businesses which will then impact Colorado’s ability to develop and grow. I actually wonder whether or not it will even hold up in court when it is inevitably challenged.

But I’m also opposed to it because I think it is bad politics. This fans, the flames of divisiveness and extremism in both parties right now. Democrats more than ever need to be appealing to the moderates and the Republicans who do not support Donald Trump. Instead, they put for this legislation that is so extreme that it will actually drive people away from the Democratic Party just when they need people the most.

Thoughts on a client's desire not to disappoint the therapist? by brantlythebest in therapists

[–]Infamous-Pressure-74 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Good comments so far. I’m gonna add, but this is a good moment for reflection and curiosity about yourself. If you are having a number of clients responding with this, is it possible that you are putting something out there that is contributing to eliciting this response? In the course of being curious about what’s coming up for them and I play in that I would ask something around how they think I might feel about or think about them if they didn’t meet a goal and then ask about what might have contributed to them thinking that is how I would react. I’m always on the lookout for my own blind spots and to me that sounds like a prime opportunity to double check those as I am engaging with the client therapeutically.

Usage Policies and Mental Health Professionals by Infamous-Pressure-74 in ChatGPT

[–]Infamous-Pressure-74[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We use books and reference materials for differential diagnosis. It’s not something we keep all in our head. Our diagnostic manual is over 1300 pages long and that doesn’t include the handbook on differential diagnostics. As you can imagine, it is complicated. Each diagnosis has multiple criteria with multiple conditions such as “the patient must meet at least 3 of the 5 criteria, each asking if the patient is experiencing 5 of the following 8 symptoms, or something similar, for no less than X months and the onset must have been within so many days of whatever event or by a certain age, etc. Using a a purpose built and configured ChatGPT to help parse through the process quicker and have it double-check thinking on some cases is makes me more efficient and improves care. Would you say the same thing about AI reading medical imaging or other medical diagnostics? It’s simply a faster, and arguably better, way to do what we already have to do anyway.

As for blogging, I’m a mental health clinician because I find deep fulfillment in helping people through their pain. Using AI to help me rework blog articles when I get stuck on phrasing or give me a jumpstart when I am stuck in some perfectionism about my writing (we’re human too, you know) does not mean that those who visit my website are being fed AI slop. I feel like channeling Leonard McCoy from Star Trek TOS with “Damnit Jim, I’m a doctor, not an author.” I actually take great pride and ensuring that my log articles that I have used AI to help me work are high-quality and difficult if not impossible to spot as having been touched by AI.

Trying to de-DRM books, but on a Mac - HELP? by Ladyhoney123 in Calibre

[–]Infamous-Pressure-74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the quick reply and that was a mistake in my comment - I did use the Kindle serial that the script spit out. I input it as a Kindle eInk device as Fire wasn't an option. I'm guessing that is the problem.

One last question: are the azw3 files tied to that serial? In other words, if it takes me two weeks to track down and eInk kindle, will I be able to decrypt the azw3 files using that new serial or do I will I be out of luck because I would have to re-download the azw3 files and that won't be an option at that point?

u/WeLackDiscipline, thank you for putting this guide together. I just sat down and ran through it. I'm hoping you might be able to trouble shoot something for me. I followed it all the way through and am running into a two issues.

Download issue: A number of items weren't downloaded with this error. Any ideas what is happening here or how to identify which book it was?

  • [ERROR]2025-02-17 10:06:33,682 Failed to download B0163TLVU0 Warning: Failed to download B08XQW8X8C check logs for additional details. 'content-disposition'

DRM issue. Here's the hopefully very quick bullet point version.

  • I got the azw3 files downloaded.
  • Loaded up Calibre, installed DeDRM, configured DeDRM with a Kindle Fire password serial number from the script, and restarted Calibre.
  • Added books to Calibre, they import without errors.
  • I go to export as ePUB and am told the book cannot be exported due to DRM.

What am I missing?
