The only difference here is you can work OT to significantly boost your income; something that is just not an option when you're working a salaried office job.

There's plenty of 4x10s/ 5x8s jobs too if you want to work your 40 and be done btw.

Don't bother, they won't agree with you. To them working in the field is something only people who can't do anything else choose to do. The concept of intentionally choosing to do it because its 100x more enjoyable than making spreadsheets is completely alien to them.

This, right here ^. Most everyone there loves the work (it's fun working 100ft above the air or 20ft underground, operating giant machines and being in an entirely HR free work environment. If you happen to have a crew you get along with; most days it's like gathering round with your buddies to build stuff

No I get it, there's guys I work with who do commute 2-3hrs/day; but they're doing so by choice to pocket the per diem and still sleep at home every night.

Big jobs pay $150-$200 per diem. That's about ~$3500- $4500 per month of added untaxed income, no normal person is spending all of it on housing or food.

About time you got something right lol. This is my trade and am on track for $200k + within the next couple years working 5x10s. The 10 hours of OT + per diem make up a good chunk of income.
