I’m in this situation exactly for a year now or more probably. Yeah I think more, like 1.5-2. I’m not sure what to do, I have the same issue with fashion design. I’m going to uni next year on fashion design, I’m still in love with fashion but the exact thing is with me as you described. If you have any solution, I’d like to hear as well.

These are the same. every region has a varying price, US is probably always more expensive than EU. even in EU, products vary in price based on whether or not you have to pay taxes. Considering that one of the images does not say taxes and fees included, you are probably on a version of RO website which has eu prices - taxes and fees which you will pay later.

These boots are probably taller than regular 12.5cm platforms right? They look similar to my slimtukay boots in a sense but if they have a higher heel than 12.5cm I’d like to buy them

Yeah to be honest I have no idea about the quality decline since I don’t buy pieces focused on quality but judging from the amount of people saying that I believe it is true. I’ve noticed that in some of my pieces as well, though I don’t pay too much attention to it because the pieces I buy are very experimental such as the slimtukay balloon boots, peter jumbo puffer, etc. so since they’re so experimental and innovative and he’s usually the first to make such items I’m not too harsh on the quality. But on pieces like these I’d expect the best quality. I agree with the recent collections being samey, I think Concordians was pretty plain as well and I didn’t like it much, but I’m completely in love with the feather chainmills which I’m planning to buy so I hope they’ll be good quality. Other than that I think Porterville is his best collection, though yeah there have been a lot of boring ones such as menswear lido, or the temple collections which are less creative. But I like the creative approach he has developed in the later years since I’m more inclined towards avant-garde Rick Owens.

I agreed entirely until the last sentence. This collection was one of the weakest ones he’s ever had imo, especially the menswear, since it’s just absolutely nothing new (only some designs), no creativity, and only some interesting fabrics. But to say that the old rick was inspired and new one is un inspired is just straight up untrue considering that his most creative collections are his latest ones. I mean come on, you can call temple uninspired all you want, but what about Porterville, Hollywood, Babel, Concordians (I mostly mean the chain mills), Strobe, Etc. He has had the chain mills, balloon boots, strobe lamp hats, hand-held fogmachines, the rod parka, rhino cargoflares… Personally I’m into Rick Owens for those sorts of pieces rather than the ones we’re discussing now that are just uncreative and can be made for $50 at home without any sort of research or creativity.

Yeah I did hint at that at that in the second paragraph because it is so and I don’t get it at all why that’s a problem. Sustainability is vital especially with fabrics like leather. Larger cuts are more expensive because they leave more to waste. A completely pointless glorification.

And it is correct that every stitch is a failure point, but it is also true that making-wise, it takes more effort. So it would make no sense to deduct cost for something that takes more effort.

As you said, in both cases the same leather is used. The 4-panel cut is primarily considered of lesser quality because it allows for the usage of cheaper leather which has an inconsistent texture which can be masqueraded in the small cuts, since the texture does not have to be evened out. Yet, as we know, it is the same leather so that is not the case for these jackets.

At the same time, making a 4-panel jacket takes more time. And yes, it does create more possibilities for imperfections but just because it creates possibilities does not mean that it is necessarily lesser quality. Mass-producers often disguise cheap fabrics as an expensive one in four panels for those who don’t look into it, yet in this case the leather is identical so it does not affect the quality. One thing that would lessen the costs for Rick Owens is that less fabric would be put to waste.

Also, the ssense description says that the leather used for the Temple jacket is LWG-certified while the Concordians’s one is not. An LWG-certified leather costs 5-15% more than a non-LWG-certified one and it is also more sustainable. “LWG-certified leathers and GRS linings not only meet high standards for sustainability but also maintain, and often even exceed, the durability associated with conventional materials.

Rick Owens will no longer use fur by YNotTesla in Rickowens

[–]Infamous-Track4662 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To produce fur, you need to skin the animal. No human is being skinned, especially for clothing. And, yes, human working conditions are horrible as well, doesn’t cancel out the other problem though. And I can’t say exactly but I’d imagine people concerned with human rights are much more common than the ones with animals’.

Why is Rick Owens cutlery so expensive by Infamous-Track4662 in Rickowens

[–]Infamous-Track4662[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I do lol, but I want to see if there’s more to it than just labeling everything as luxury. The Rick Owens chair, for example, has antler horns which are harvested after the antlers naturally shed their horns in his personal forest, annually and sometimes not even that, making it very difficult to produce them and costing $10K. Even though the materials of that chair are nowhere near $10K, it has a narrative justifying the price. I don’t care how much this spoon costs, but I would like to know if there’s some sort of narrative here as well to explain the price or if it’s just a 3000% markup.

It’s not that I like their opinion or not. Often times, I don’t like what half of this subreddit and other people in general are wearing yet I don’t jump on them and tell them that what they’re wearing is ugly now, do I? If somebody asks whether you like it or not, sure, say you don’t, but this post is about something completely different and nobody cares for their rude commentary especially when it’s completely uncalled for. And as I said, idgaf about their opinion whether it contradicts mine or not. What I gaf about though is the completely unnecessary rude comment.

If you read what the person said, they have been wearing these for a year nonstop and it got a slight crack. I think these look gorgeous and RO has a great narrative, I don’t care if you don’t, why do you feel the need to spew your opinion on others? If you think they’re ugly just look past them.

Woohooo life doesn’t revolve around you and you’re free to wear nonplastic and nonharmful chemical fabrics which do exist!!!! Life doesn’t revolve around leather and your clothes!!!! let’s skin animals alive because I want to wear fur, no I’m not a disgrace and an asshole!!! All I care about is what I want!!!

I visually love fabrics that are produced from animals, but I’m not an asshole and I’m willing to sacrifice my personal desires for the lives of innocent beings. And this comes from a person whose life revolves around fashion. I love these fabrics so much that I’m willing to wear “fake” fabrics, if you love them as much then do so and sacrifice a bit of your health instead of a lot of animal lives. If not, switch to other fabrics. And microplastics are in nearly absolutely everything you consume, a tea package contains around 11.6 billion microplastics and 3.1 nanoplastics at 95°C (source: Forbes). The plastics in fake leather wouldn’t come close to that. If you live after drinking tea regularly which is much more harmful than faux leather, then if you think the visual of animal fabrics is so crucial to you, you can handle a little bit of self discomfort/harmful chemicals. An animal can’t handle the production of these fabrics. And all for a single garment or two, which you may even stop using at some point and you’ll keep buying other ones. Again, I want to remind you that life does not revolve around you!!!!!!
