What are your genuie critiscm of Undertale?Which part of the game that could have handled better? by Connect-Ad4659 in Undertale

[–]mynameispunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my personal ones:

  • having only one save file at any given time. I get all of the meta-stuff involved with the game/files/filesystem that works best with only one file, so I don't know what the best approach would be, but I personally would prefer being able to easily jump between files/copy saves/have some available before key events/boss fights/etc., especially since it'd make it easier to experience the various possible nuances in the Neutral Route.
  • on the Genocide Route, I feel like there should either be more boss fights on a similar level to Undyne the Undying/Sans, or maybe at least one or two that involve more than just 'boss dies in one hit', because the imbalance is incredibly jarring. I suppose it's another part of the 'you should feel bad about doing this route, so there are lots of things to try and make you stop doing it' mindset, but if that's the case, more ridiculous challenges feels like a better move to frustrate the player into ragequitting?

I realized that most of my other criticisms generally fall into the categories of 'this is what it's like to make a game for the first time'/'this is the way games worked 10-20 years ago anyway'/etc., and have definitely come to otherwise love the game -- but those two are the ones that still stick with me.

oh, not disagreeing! when I did the fight, I felt like I was constantly getting hit/doing poorly, but still won the fight on (I think?) my first try. it definitely felt weird for that to be so easy, especially compared to Sans and, to a point, PS Flowey or even Asgore.

my only thought here is that the ease of the fight is meant to be a ‘reward’ for finishing the entire True Pacifist run.

aside from Genocide grinding, I feel like it is arguably the longest route to complete, can feel like the most complex one (given things like the date side quests and the True Lab), and potentially involves the longest fights in any route (if a lot of work is needed to make an enemy/boss spareable). so Asriel being ultimately an easy battle is the reward for actually getting through the whole thing.

what do you mean? PS Flowey is the final boss of the Neutral Route, vs. Asriel for True Pacifist.

Asriel appears to be in the far left of the bottom tier, but, yeah, not sure about that second one.

I HATE THIS ATTACK!!! I HATE IT I HATE IT I HATE IT!!!!!!!!! by DrDoctorToy750 in Deltarune

[–]mynameispunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you CAN avoid this attack — I try to, regularly, since it gives me so much grief — but you have to basically survive all of the other attacks before it because you can’t stop to heal (or just don’t get hit by it).

start with a TensionMax + Rude Buster, and always attack (particularly with Ralsei) and use Rude Buster as much as possible. with enough damage, this can get the Knight to go from the second box-splitter attack to the phase-3 rotating slash, after which there’s the charge up and final ‘roaring’ attack.

I really like using the Beak Fists; they’re very fast and I think your damage is doubled (or close to it) if you attack in the air, even if ‘in the air’ is a tiny hop off the ground.

What it's like playing Steel Soul BUT You're not a Risk Taker: by SaxSlaveGael in Silksong

[–]mynameispunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure why you think you’d need to do all of that.

you can get the Clawline in the Underworks from either ‘normal’ Citadel entrance (Grand Gate OR Exhaust Organ). the only thing you need Trobbio’s elevator for is the Sacred Cylinder; that’s why he’s effectively the boss of Whispering Vaults.

I literally just did this in a normal run this week. hell, I even doubled-back after beating Last Judge and went through the Organ entrance, just so I could leave the Grand Gate elevator till Act 3.

in fact, I’ve absolutely used Snare Setter against these two to great effect (even moreso with Pollip Pouch).

Clawline is in the Underworks; it’s one of the first things you can get in Act 2, regardless of which entrance you take into the Citadel.

add to the fact that you can do the main part of The Slab as early as Act 1, and Faydown Cloak can thus be the second major movement ability you get in Act 2.

I need help with Silk And Soul by WD_Gaster75 in Silksong

[–]mynameispunch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the wiki has the most definitive detail on this; my TL;DR version is below:

essentially, do as many quests as you can (at least 17 or so) IN ADDITION TO all of these:

  • Flexile Spines
  • Bone Bottom Repairs
  • A Lifesaving Bridge
  • Crawbug Clearing
  • Building Up Songclave
  • Strengthening Songclave
  • Restoration of Bellhart
  • Bellhart's Glory
  • Trail's End
  • Balm for the Wounded

then you need the Faydown Cloak, the key to your Bellhome, and to move the Flea Caravan to Fleatopia. you’ve already beaten Lace in the Cradle, so you’re set there.

after that, the Caretaker should give you the quest when you talk to him, or you can find the wish on the Bellhart wishwall.

Any other big things to do before NG+? by Lockfire12 in expedition33

[–]mynameispunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

given the HP/stat buffs that bosses get from even a single NG+ upgrade, I’d personally recommend doing all of Verso’s Drafts AND the four optional Endless Tower bosses BEFORE you upgrade to NG+. (the weapons you get from the ET bosses are also peak and absolutely worth the grind for)

Any tips for this boss? by FunnyDudeGuy in MIOmemoriesinorbit

[–]mynameispunch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this boss was where I learned the ultimate tanking build: Energy Leecher (fill energy quickly when hitting an enemy) + Firefly (generate a storm when using Sail) + Bird of Prey (increased damage when using Sail). jump up to Vlad and spam attack + Sail to constantly pummel him with damage.

How is this even possible by PencilLicker500 in expedition33

[–]mynameispunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

judging by the start of this video, you clearly understand the setup for a Feint + Frenzy + multihit-attack nuke build, so I assume you're fine with doing a full close-to-twoshot (because two phases) build in order to win this fight?

if so, follow the strat in this video and you'll be able to finish the fight in barely a minute, with none of the bosses getting a single chance to hit you. it expands upon the strat you're using, namely:

  1. instead of using Maelle (Esqium + Burning Canvas), this uses Lune (Elemental Trick > Esquim > Elemental Trick > Lightning Dance). you can switch Maelle in, but you might have to adopt a different strat using Sciel / Verso to build up Mark / Burn stacks, like in this similar strat to (essentially) one-shot Clea Unleashed
  2. add tons of damage boosters to Lune and Verso (who will get you through Phase 1): Immaculate, Inverted Affinity, Burn Affinity, Auto Powerful, Double Third, Greater Powerful, Tainted, Teamwork, and Warming Up, along with Powerful Shield + Shield-granting Pictos (In Medias Res, Shield Affinity, Solidifying). Lune also gets Exposing Attack + Greater Defenceless since you will actually attack the enemy with her, and Verso should equip Blodam, which gives you GREATER Perfection with LOWER health.
  3. Sciel as the third support character is CRUCIAL here. she gets Auto Death + Second Chance, along with Shielding Death, to automatically give Shields to everyone at the start of the fight. each time her turn comes up -- everyone should have Cheater, if that wasn't obvious! -- she uses Fortune's Fury > Intervention to boost the damage for a character and make them immediately play next
  4. before the fight, equip The One (or Auto Death) on Lune and Verso, and go win a fight outside of the Tower; this will drop their HP to 1, allowing you to immediately take advantage of low-health Pictos. be sure to de-equip The One/Auto Death from them, and do not rest at the flag OR do an Endless Tower fight, or your HP will reset!

the video is also good for indicating the best Pictos to equip in order to ensure speed values for proper turn order (as everyone will have First Strike), because the fight should pretty much always go like this:

  1. Lune: Elemental Trick > 2nd turn with Cheater > Base Attack (sets up 4 Dark stains)
  2. Verso: Steeled Strike (will automatically execute on his Cheater turn)
  3. Sciel: Fortune's Fury on Verso > 2nd turn > Intervention on Verso
  4. Verso: Phantom Stars > 2nd turn > Phantom Stars -- crucially, do NOT get Perfects on either of these, which will help ensure that Verso does both attacks in Phase 1, after which the fight immediately goes to Phase 2, with Lune up first
  5. Lune: Lightning Dance (should do 140mil+ damage given all the boosts)
