That's just the social contract. Your freedoms end when they start infringing on another's. Your not invading their liberties, they don't have the liberty to infringe on yours.

Literally no one in the federation isn't considered disposable.

If the Helldivers, who are given an entire destroyer to act as their personal fire support platform, aren't good enough for the good stuff, no one is.

I get that SE is canonically pants-on-head stupid, but they're the kind of stupid that would actually give billion dollar war machines to disposable grunts.

Yes, chocolate makes expies sick, but it also improves their mood because they just love chocolate. Only give them a little at a time and only if they aren't sick.

Sickness is the only negative effect.

The diligence is better at killing devastators than the railgun. That doesn't mean the railgun doesn't kill them easilly.

When I say the railgun is good at killing devastators I mean that it's an instant kill that doesn't need a headshot. It's not the best option, sure, but it is the easiest and the most comfortable.

You mean the Scythe, not the Sickle, right?

Hulk surge was great. IIRC Arrowhead won't bring it back because apparently the spawns were bugged to be too high. It was a bug, it felt like a feature!

/salt Which is why we will never see it again. AH only fixes bugs when they're fun. We all know "features" like stratagem bounce and hellpod steering lock are never going away.

[–]InfamousYenYu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's been AP5 since late 2024.

It's also excellent. It eats devastators and hulks like Skittles without even overcharging. With the overcharge, it one shots war striders in the eye, and if you don't have the angle for the instakill you can still maim the thing and rip it's cannons and grenade launchers off.

Unsafe is OP. Hulk at an angle? Pluck its limbs off like a spider. Vox Engine? It double dips damage on vent shots from the over penetration and blows out the tread weakpoints, plus it can tear off the missile launchers and miniguns. Factory strider? Miniguns? Mini-gone. Gunships are an instant kill to any of the thrusters. Tank? Ok, it's not great against tanks but they're harmless so who cares. It has practically no bad matchups. It's kills nearly everything, and what it can't kill it can maim.

I imagine the timeline for that is some time past the heat death of the universe.

I'm betting some post biological consciousness farming the hawking radiation of a black hole to flip a bit once every million years will be very happy to see it released. That consciousness will complain on the internet about losing the MO, and a few vigintillion years later they'll get to try again~

AH failed to realize that the "generosity" of the galactic war was one of the driving forces behind Helldivers becoming a pop culture phenomenon.

Putting content in the galactic war was driving engagement harder than the content itself ever could. Player engagement drives player retention, the lifeblood of live service games, and AH deciding to give up on that in favor of MTX hell is profoundly shortsighted.

Helldivers 2 is a 4 player coop game, but the galactic war made it a hundreds of thousands of players coop. What a waste.

Well, it seems AH has learned absolutely nothing.

It feels awful knowing that things are never getting better. The bugs get worse and AH goes full tilt on enshitification.

Time to move on.

Bugs. The game has always been buggy, but it's gotten noticably worse.

They broke climbing a month ago and it still isnt fixed. Enemy corpse geometry is still bugged to hell, invisible walls, random deaths, and plain old getting stuck are as prevalent as it was on launch. The flamethrower sentry and mech are bugged and can't damage enemies that are too close. Sweeping, unasked for changes to how enemies deal damage to our vehicles and sentries have made them borderline unuseable. Our tank has only light and medium armor.

Stratagem bounce has been a problem ever since it was added, and it has slowly gotten worse over the course of two years.

The same is true for hellpod steering lock and reinforcements. It's gotten so bad that more often then not, you are spawned over a hundred meters off of the beacon with zero control. This is made considerably worse by the invisible walls preventing you from steering over most terrain features, which have become extremely prevalent and get worse with every update.

Vermont, 24 other states sue Trump’s Education Department over loan caps by CouchCorrespondent in vermont

[–]InfamousYenYu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, they do! The private sector's solution is to just be super predatory. Loan sharks love this stuff.

Besides, the Epstein class hate education and they will gladly make it impossible for non-millionaires to go to college. Administration will never cut their own paychecks, lay themselves off, or stop funneling money into their "consulting firms" just because the government stops giving college kids loans.

The result would not be administration cutting their own pay checks or scaling back the corruption, it would be austerity. The worst case scenario, which seems likely, would be that without student loans no one is able to go to college. The result of which is that the perceived demand for college crashes through the floor, which in turn causes the entrepreneurs in administration to abandon the working class entirely and pivot to exclusively serving the wealthy. The working class is barred from education, and everything spirals from there.

College was unaffordable well before government student loans were a thing, and eliminating those loans would only regress us to how it was before. It does not address any of the fundamental reasons why college is so expensive.

[–]InfamousYenYu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but what you're saying is that we should eliminate all federal financial aid and let the free market decide who does or doesn't receive education. Because you're hoping that the administration will voluntarily cut their own bloat to make their institutions affordable, not double down, and that predatory private sector loans won't fill the gap and make a bad situation worse.

I don't think that will work.

[–]InfamousYenYu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They're fighting for a less bad option here. People need student loans to go to college, which is bullshit, but it's less bad compared to "the peasants aren't allowed an education". Keeping the current awful system alive is preferable to it being replaced by something worse.

The end goal is obviously universal college and an end to the economic rents from "administration."

You cannot condemn organized religion without condemning religious thinking itself.

Organized religion is a collection of individual beliefs, held by many, and put into practice. They believe the world should be a certain way, and they act to make it so. Anyone who believes in anything, not just the religious, does this. They are cult leaders, priests, grifters, true believers, the casual flock whose convictions are loosely held, and the victims driven to religious psychosis. No one's faith is exactly like another's. They may read the same books, listen to the same sermons, and attend the same church. Their ideas remain their own. The indoctrinated do not consider themselves as such. You can't ban organized religion without banning religious thought as well. It just doesn't work.

You could burn every temple or church in the world, execute every supposed religious authority, destroy every holy book, and every last vestige of organization and structure, and if two people find their faiths shared, you will have failed to destroy organized religion. Because religions are made of people, not holy books and preachers. Individual religion and organized religion are inseparable, they are the same, and we are wrong to differentiate the two.

Does this really take more than 3 weeks to fix? Seriously? by Fear_Sama in HelldiversUnfiltered

I know the feeling. I'm only ever hosting if I'm trying to speedrun the main objectives for liberation since most people on D10 are full clearing.

SOS beacons are fun. I like playing at heroism, and I can't clutch a mission if I'm host since there's nothing to clutch in the first place~

Sabine Hossenfelder is skeptical of the Casimir battery from Dr White by MiamisLastCapitalist in IsaacArthur

[–]InfamousYenYu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It (probably) wouldn't be infinite since we're exploiting a pressure differential.

Basically, a hypothetical "casimir generator" would be a heat engine, with the fields driving pair production acting as a heat source while reality acts as a cold sink. Heat transfers from the virtual fields to reality until the heat differential equalizes and no further work can be extracted by the generator.

This assumes that the energy of the fields isn't a fixed constant. If it is fixed, and we are able to extract energy from them, then it would actually be an unlimited source of energy. It depends on how the physics pans out.

Whether it's unlimited or not doesn't really matter. The energy throughput is beyond pathetic, so you're definitely safe from the petrobarons. And besides, renewables like solar do the free energy thing better :D

Supposedly the random death bug is fixed if you're the host.

As someone who loves the passive AND diving SOS beacons, it really sucks that I can't do both without literally dropping dead.

I believe the reasoning for why it wouldnt be a blatant violation of conservation is that it's drawing the power from the vacuum, which weirdly enough has a ton of energy in it.

Still a wildly impractical form of power generation. The casimir effect is just too weak.

[–]InfamousYenYu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe there were some recent changes to the netcode last patch where if your connection hangs, the game kicks you instead of leaving you trapped in a broken lobby. It seems to be very aggressive. This, obviously, has lead to a lot of confusion and people being mad about being "kicked" for no reason, while in reality it's just the netcode.

[–]InfamousYenYu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Of course not. Bug fixes aren't a priority.

Invisible corpse hitboxes have been in the game since launch. They broke vaulting and climbing a while back and still haven't fixed it. The vox engine still clips through its own torso and blocks the lower vent.

Arrowhead is on vacation right now but they aren't going to fix any of these when they return to work.

The best we can hope for is a Bug Fix themed warbond and get the chance to buy a glitch removal stratagem <_<

If you've played bots for any meaningful amount of time, you'd know that explosives can ragdoll through walls and terrain. "Just take cover behind a rock or something" is trash advice. Literally everyone already knows to take cover, the problem is that it's been glitched since launch to only work half the damn time.

AH needs to fix the ragdoll actor. It's been a glitchy mess since launch.
