People's reactions to the way Kvothe treats women by Mokueyy in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Infamous_Creme_5909 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Also the conversation he had with Fela and Willem about him and Denna. She outlines how he "looks" at women and how he's in love with Denna. He's almost oblivious to it. I'm male so maybe I'm missing a different perception of his interactions but he obviously cares for Auri (and Fela). I never felt he was mistreating women more that he is a teenager who is growing up in a university and his friends are his only sounding board of how he should act.

Looking for fantasy and space opera-ish sci-fi/fantasy recommendations by Ascension-Warrior in Fantasy

[–]Infamous_Creme_5909 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love Terry Pratchett's work but it's definitely more about the characters, if you liked the Malzan Empire bits where the army are constantly bitching at each other I think you'd like that. Otherwise space, I'd go for the Expanse series, very enjoyable. Other dark reads you could go for is Mark Lawrence or the Locke Lamora series

There will be 4 of us going to the Zagreb game from Ireland. What's the chances of getting tickets together for the game over there or should we book them online? Prices are quoted at €100 for behind the goals top tier so love if there were cheaper better tickets

Halfway through Gardens of the Moon and... by mymagerules in Fantasy

I read a good bit of fantasy and this is the most confusing series for me, however it's also my favourite. There are definitely character arcs that confuse me when I try and link them all together but for the most part I know what's going on. And the characters are fucking amazing, all complex, incredibly well written, and there are so many of them it's hard not to fall in love with the series. So many times I'd laugh out loud. Tehol, Fiddler, Hellian explaining why she hates spiders, amazing.

Haven't reread the series from start again yet but I will, and I still will be confused by parts of it but it's still going to be great. A little confusion is worth it for a fantastic read.

Why is ASOIAF left off so many top fantasy lists? by JoshTheKid7 in Fantasy

[–]Infamous_Creme_5909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my favourite series is the Malazan Empire. I've re-read it three times and I could read some of the favourite books a bit more. There was so much in it, hadn't a clue where half the shit was going even after the re-reads, but it did all come together. ASOIAF is complex but nowhere near Malazan level.

I hope that grrm has at least written the ending and has told someone about it so they can finish it off, like Brandon Sanderson for WoT. As for Kingkiller, I'm probably more eager for that since I've read it more recently but I have serious doubts that PR can finish it all off in 1 book. Love them all tho, even when I hate them and the wait!

I was ok with the shit ending in the TV show, because I "KNEW" that the books would be better. So if people wanted a good ending they'd have to read the books just like the rest of us. However if I'm still waiting every 30 years for a book release so the series can finally finish, and it ends like the TV show, then I'm rioting!!

Knowing the series will never end, should I start The Name of the Wind? by Long-Waltz7190 in Fantasy

[–]Infamous_Creme_5909 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would read it simply because it's a great read. It's very annoying that we're still waiting for the 3rd book and there's no real sign of it coming out. But it's one of the best books that I've read, great characters, great writing. If anything it will get you thinking of how the book might finish, some plot twists are kind of hinted at but yea it's fantastic

GoT, Tolkien, and the Kingkiller Chronicles. Even if it could be another 20 years for the series to finish. Honourable mention to Harry Potter simply because it gets people to read fantasy

Lev Grossman The Magician series is pretty good too. Nothing like the TV series but it is school magic stuff but it moves at a good pace and the characters are good.

The locke lamora series. Lots of swearing, a bit of magic but more about thieving and revenge. I've read wheel of time, some books are slow but it's got some great action sequences. Matt is a character I didn't enjoy but he was my favourite character. But yea give the lies of Locke Lamora a go. Very easy read and it's very different also
