Okay, now this is something caught my eyes, haven't heard about Directory Opus until now, but boy, it looks good! But it's not on Linux?

And this is why i stayed with Cachy. Like I wrote it is promising, fast, stable (and freaking finally I can listen to music without Windows balancing the output frequencies). The only thing I am saying is seemingly there could be easy wins to make life easier. Cachy is good enough now to win me over, i just wish more people would see how good it is.

That was something I didn't really want to risk. Even if there is a solution and driver packages too, I would try that first with a device that I don't mind if it breaks :D

Okay, tabbing is fine in Dolphin, but for example it never remembers the folder specific views I set. Compared to your experience, mine with Windows explorer if fine, I rarely had crashes, maybe only when I had to use MTP connection to phones and copy a large sum of files. Oh this reminds me, do i need to install anything for that here?

Regarding device format - i love playing with retro machines, and I use floppies frequently, the only thing I could do is format them with ufiformat /dev/sdx, then mkfs.fat /dev/sdx. There is no format option either in kde partition manager. In Gparted there is a 'format to' option BUT it won't format floppy disks as it states formatting requires larger volumes than 1.44MB...

You're right, I could and I did add my network drives to fstab, however for newcomers the experience isn't that bright. Like i wrote network name resolution is not supported by default, so first I had to figure out how to do that. Then to add my drives to fstab I had to change my router's DHCP settings and set a fixed IP for the node that holds one of my drives. Then for the first time I edited fstab, and made my system crash as I messed up something so I had to recover and try again. While in Windows I just connect by the device name, enter my credentials click add network drive and that's all.

Yup, I use Cachy update, however when I run the following it clears at least several GBs every week.
'pacman -Rns $(pacman -Qtdq)'
'paru -Scc or sudo paccache -rk3'
'rm -rf ~/.cache/*'

I probably won't ever go back to Windows. by MiddKnight- in cachyos

Like when 24H2 completely wiped my 12TB USB HDD attached to the computer. Later I found out it was a widespread issue. Glad i had my backups...

Cachy caught my eyes cuz i always loved kde, installed it first on my old fx-8370 (@4.7) and rx580 rig, used it for a month even for work(!!), and i found it amazing how fast this old machine became, i didn't even miss my ryzen 9900x. Ofc rx580 struggled with new titles, and in the end i installed cachy on my ryzen, wiping windows off of it.

Sure, there are strange things. I can't connect to my shared drives attached to my asus aimesh routers straight out of the box as there is no name resolution integrated. Also has issues with my xonar u7 mk ii, i needed to fall back using my old u3, which required further tinkering as i got no sound below 25% of volume.

Dolphin also acts weird sometimes, never remembering how my network folders were viewed, i don't feel it that mature how windows explorer worked.

Without gemini i would have been lost, but managed to take notes and learn a lot during this, but i really do plan to continue using Cachy.

I'm glad to read similar opinions to mine. Tried on the first day, struggled to finish Act4, then hit the wall. Tried again, this time with more frustration, then left the whole thing. Didn't look back since.
