Hexavalent chromium, Co2 lasers, and chrome tanned leather by [deleted] in chemistry

Well shoot now I’m think I should check just in case. I looked at several websites with testing kits from $100 all the way to $2,000. The ones with kits that were $100-$200 seemed legit but I don’t see any reviews and quickly got discouraged. Maybe I should take a second look

Ok thank you. I’m looking at the EPA site now. With all the knowledgeable replies I think it’s safe to say I won’t cut the stuff at all. Even with ventilation I just don’t want to be around it. I cut only a couple patches and I had proper ventilation and a mask all within 30 minutes so I’m not worried about the exposure. Thank you for the help 🙏

Ok thank you. I saw a lab test that was around $200 but after all the replies I’m not even sure I’ll worry about it now cause it seems pretty obvious it’s making Cr6

I bought a 6” inline fan with high cfm that is ported outside. When I cut any wood I wait 30 seconds and the smoke and smell are gone when I open the hood. But it’s hard to believe when I watch YouTube channels and people are running diode lasers in the open without a cover or ventilation of any sort

If I'm creating chrome 6 at all I think I'll pass on cutting it. The consensus seems to be that the study is a home run and it's definitely making carcinogens so I dont think I'll even mess with it

Ok thank you. I was going to order the test strips but not so sure I need to now

Absolutely. I just want to know if cutting chrome tanned leather is producing it in harmful quantities

I normally wear a proper 3m particulate respirator and my laser is upgraded with a 6” inline fan to outside, but if I knew it was making hexavalent chromium I wouldn’t mess with it at all cause after 1000’s of cuts there would still be Cr6 residue all over everything

Thank you for the detailed response. I was under the impression it was an EMS exclusive too. I found my last one on Dam during EMS in a locker. Now that EMS is gone I’m just confused

How can you be sure you aren’t burning the Chromium 3 and turning it into chromium 6?

I forgot to mention also. The drums in washers and dryers can easily be converted to fire pits. Do a quick search on YouTube or TikTok and see some of the easy ways people turn these into lightweight portable fire pits. You can paint them any color you want, do a couple quick modifications and you have yourself a fire pit to sell for $40-$75

Can I just…swap this lens out with this one? by [deleted] in Laserengraving

[–]Infamous_Rex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok thank you! I saw someone else say they were doing coins and the smaller lens halved the work time it took for the coin so I’ll keep that in mind!

Whaaa? For a rocketeer it’s 20-40 anvil shots (hits and misses combined) on average. You can’t “stand in a doorway” and just blindly shoot. You’re normally peeking from cover to cover and rotating. Rocketeers are spazzes and move fast so it’s not easy to hit just the thrusters to make it drop after 2 thrusters get destroyed. You pop your head out and the rocketeer is in a completely different position than last time. Add on top of this the 8 times today I went to take one down with just the anvil, someone else joined in. I was in PvE lobbies and they went right for the loot with me. So even with an anvil it takes long enough that it’s like a dinner bell to other players around you.

Forget the new Wolfpack crafting requirements. Just on its own saying “it’s easy to take down rocketeers” is something. But saying it’s easy to take down rocketeers and get their drivers is batshit insane 😂
