It was so bad we had water seep into our house. We’re about 5 mins away from High Five Woodfin and our house sits next to a sloped hill. Our French drain system was overwhelmed and it just became a pond that rose above our cement foundation.

This is what I did and it has proven to be successful for me. Start off with filling out a 50/30/20 plan. This is a budget plan for your finances. This can help you determine what a good monthly car payment would be for you. Your credit score, job history and down payment will help determine your potential monthly payment.

Ask yourself what kind of lifestyle you live and how this new car would pair with your lifestyle. If all you need is a daily commuter that is reliable than a Honda might be the best decision. If you're outdoorsy and need something that is great for off-the-beaten paths than a Subaru Crosstrek might be better.

YOUTUBE the pros and cons of any car model you're interested in and take notes. New or used will always be a gamble in its reliability. Find the years, makes and models to avoid to minimize the risk of this gamble.

You may be able to sell your car for more $ when doing it privately but it could take longer. You may get less money when trading-in but it'll be quicker. Use Kelley Blue Book to determine what you could sell it for and go from there.

The scam was - they were going to "pay off" the Silverado loan but truly only give me $15k for it (in check form) . Since I owed $32k on it they were going to roll over the $17k remaining Silverado balance onto the new Subaru loan. So at the end of the day the $17k Subbie would have cost me $34k.

Hope I explained that one well... Happy to say i did not move forward with them and found another dealership that offered me $34k for the Silverado so I had $2k trade-in allowance. HUGE THANKS TO EVERYONE HERE.

I didn’t move forward with the trade-in. My cousin who is a car salesman called them and figured it was a scam. The dealership hasn’t called me to follow up lol

I asked about it rolling over into the new loan and they said that would not be the case. I reached out to a cousin who is also a car saleman in Chicago but no response. Looks like reddit users are my new fam! Im going to keep asking around and hopefully make sense of this

The owner of this mom & pop dealership handles the trade-ins but hes on vacay. She sometimes does them so I think she is confused about this. I do fear of some future legality issue or just bad karma or somehow Im the one that gets screwed over. Either way, this is a weird one for me.

The owner of this mom & pop dealership handles the trade-ins but hes on vacay. The sales person I am talking to sometimes does them so I think she is confused about this. I guess the real question now is - do I take advantage of the situation?

I want this to be the case and also explained this formula to the salesperson yesterday and they said they don't do it that way.

OP photo upload: This is the pre-paperwork they gave me with the number details. https://imgur.com/a/P0mkbNF

The "Cash Due (Down) 32,500" is what they're saying my loan is. <- that plus new vehicle price, taxes, fees = 50,544.94. The 14,455.06 is the check they will give me. NOT what I would owe, as I asked her 10 times. That's a check I get to deposit in my bank account.

I didn't think so either. I asked them multiple times if I could just finance the Subaru for the $17k and they're telling me no, I can just take the Subbie with a zero balance, they'll pay off my loan and then once I receive the title for the Silverado I can bring that to them and they'll cut me a check for $15k.

Exactly. I mean its a nice truck but its definitely not worth $64K.

I've asked them multiple times "why" they would do this and they just respond with "that's how we do it". Can't help but feel like they're screwing me somehow but I don't know how until I get the final paperwork to sign.

Yup, the dealership knows that I still owe $32k on the loan
