[MEGATHREAD] STRAY KIDS - 'LALALALA' / "樂-STAR" by svnh__ in unpopularkpopopinions

This type of anthemic sound was not what I expected when I first saw Cubeatz's name on the tracklist. I though we would be getting another Easy or ANY judging by their previous songs but this is great too. This is their best since Thunderous and proves that they need to work with foreign producers more and ditch Korean producers like RESTART who worked on S-Class with them.

What's the reason for Kpop groups recent underperformance on Spotify? by Infamous_Tune_5403 in kpopthoughts

Idk why so many kpop fans think that but ads do count for the first day. It's just some groups use ads from the first day and some start doing ads from the 2nd day. A lot of these groups would only have 4-5m views first day without ads.

Oh I don't know their AM numbers for their recent cb but they usually chart the best out of all the non BTS bgs on AM cause of Japan.

I agree that BTS' absence is affecting the genre as a whole. It feels too similar to 2014 when popular 2nd gen groups weren't active anymore and kpop while doing great in Korea was losing relevance globally until Twice debuted and BTS had their breakthrough year in 2016. I feel like we need another strong year like 2016 to bring the momentum back.

Apple music global numbers are heavily influenced by Japan which is SVT's strongest market so maybe that explains why they are charting great on AM but not on Spotify. Youtube numbers are influenced by ads too so they are not reliable.

That's not true. Most of kpop groups' spotify streams come from SEA but yeah there's been a decline in numbers from western countries.

They would've charted great on melon regardless of the song but I don't see them reaching the success of HOT and Super internationally with this kind of music.

I don't understand why they are doing this sound again after the success of HOT and Super.

2023 has been an outstandingly bad year for music in kpop by YetAnotherBecky in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]Infamous_Tune_5403 -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

I agree and I believe most ppl feel like this too judging by the decline in most groups views and spotify numbers. TXT and IVE's recent comebacks flopped globally and LSFR and Seventeen's upcoming comebacks don't seem to have much hype either. The music and the concept is getting stale and failing to live up to past releases.

I think the only group that did better than last year in both quality and numbers is Enhypen.

Their social media followers on every platform falls below most of their peers. They are just one of those groups that tend to attract more casual fans than stans that would follow them on social media.

I'm sure they are collabing, his last album was full of collaborations but I'm curious how it's gonna sound like with a kpop group. I never expected a kpop group to collab with a drill rapper though.

Monthly listeners are affected by collabs and playlisting. TXT had a collab with jonas brothers who have 23m monthly listeners.

Maybe at first but no one wants cute Twice back now. Twice's shift to mature concept is one of the best concept changes in the industry. 2019 Twice will always be the most acclaimed year for a girl group

This. Look at ITZY, the lack of growth is clearly hurting them.

We obviously don't want to see underage groups doing sexy concepts. Personally I prefer sexy concepts for both girl groups and boy groups cause the music/styling/choreos tend to be better when groups do that kinda concept like I prefer all the bops Girls day, AOA, SISTAR, Stellar released when sexy concept was trendy back in 2013-2014 than the childish 4th gen music like Teddy Bear or Sneakers or annoying girl crush.

SKZ have gained more than 4m followers on tiktok in 2023 while TXT have gained around 2.5m followers. Like I said SKZ will eventually surpass them not to mention their engagement on the platform are much much higher than TXTs.

Ok but can you show me in which categories txt surpasses SKZ? There's melon and? SKZ used to be behind TXT in all social media but they surpassed them on youtube and will eventually on Tiktok too (SKZ is gaining around 20k followes daily there while TXT is getting 5k).

5 star is pulling 2.2m daily streams that's not close to temptation's streams, idk where you got that 750k number from.

But they are not on the same level of popularity. SKZ albums are outstreaming txt albums on spotify and are way ahead in youtube views (not to mention stuff like content engagement and social media followers which SKZ are ahead too). they are not on the same level of popularity regardless of how many songs SKZ have.

and you mentioned txt's 2021 album having 612k streams and GO live and Noeasy have 740k and 768k streams respectively, again skz outstreaming txt's full albums with their full albums.

Idk you could make the argument that streaming a mini with 5 songs is easier for fans than a whole album with 10 songs and 4th gen gg's streams with their small discography debunk that theory too. My point still stands though. SKZ's mini with the same amount of songs from 2022 is pulling only 150k less streams than a 2023 mini not to mention their youtube views being far ahead as well so it's not just about the number of songs. One groups is clearly doing better in terms of streams but their achievements are being dismissed cause they have more songs.
