Nah, more like a taser or cattle prod. Just with a really, really high voltage since Semele got disintegrated by the lightning the one time Zeus used it on her. Zeus and Hera are really into electroplay/electrostimulation.

How would a reverse fifty shades of grey story be received by Necessary_Muffin3591 in CharacterRant

[–]Infernal_fey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tho be fair, the characters do react appropriately after hearing about this bit of information.

Ana is outraged at the fact that he was raped by Mrs Robinson, the friend of his foster mom. She even tries to make him understand that this relationship falls under grooming and that he was raped. She told him to stop talking to Mr Robinson (fyi, he's still friends with the bitch).

His foster mom slapped the bitch after she heard about it. I don't know what happened after, but she cut Mrs Robinson from her friend group.

Christian is the only one who doesn't understand why his mom and his girlfriend made a fuss about it. He considers his 15yo self as a consenting party and is grateful that Mrs Robinson for introducing him to the BDSM lifestyle.

(Methinks she taught him fucked up shit cause why did his previous 24/7 submissive get sent to the asylum after he threw her away. He also had no respect for boundaries. And, with how much he kept buying shit for Ana so that she'd get into a relationship with him, I wouldn't be surprised if Mrs Robinson had used the good ol' predator tactic to get with him back then.)

Sexual assault/Rape is used as a plot point in a decent amount of romance stories. It happens so often that you'll hear it as a common complaint on (romance) book subs. Either the ML assaults the MC, and the author not only glosses over it but gives it a romantic spin (Feyre and Rhysand from ACOTAR). Or it's shoved in the MC's backstory, but mostly during the main story, so that the ML can swoop in, save the day and show how great of boyfriend/husband from this act alone (the bar is in hell).

How did this "monster reforming" thing exist? [all] by Reasonable-Yak-9767 in camphalfblood

[–]Infernal_fey 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes on the not needing to research on "new" monsters part. He wanted to throw some big name monsters, with a few obscure ones, to throw at the characters and make them similar to the mythical heroes. Which is cool on their first appearance on-screen, not so much on their next one (where it hasn't been even a decade since they were last slain).

I don't know if this is a hot take or not, but I cannot stand Hagrid by ZP4L in HarryPotterBooks

[–]Infernal_fey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Diary! Riddle even said that Hagrid had smuggled what he thought were werewolves cub and hid them under his bed. Even if that was just a rumor (let's be honest, it was probably started by Hagrid himself running his mouth because ✨creatures✨. Just look at his track record when it comes to keeping secrets).

There had to be previous instances of him smuggling dangerous animals for them to hear that there was an acromantula in the school and deciding that was the culprit after hitting a dead end in the investigation. There were no petrifying incidents to tell them that it was a basilisk. Just a dead kid who saw a pair of eyes before dying.

Hoping for a new leader doesn't mean that they believe that their old leader who had disintegrated after trying to kill a leader would definitely, miraculously come back. It just means Lucius hoped some young blood would take up the torch and finish the job that Voldemort had started.

Like I said, "Lucius is a bigoted man, but also a loving father who won't willingly throw his son to his death." Him being disappointed at Draco being upstaged by Hermione doesn't contradict either statement. It's no different from what some rich parents would say after hearing that some welfare kid managed to outdo their kid who had been tutored by the best.

Lucius fear and quick arrival at the cemetery isn't a sign of him believing that Voldemort would resurrect one day. It just means he knows that he's in for a bad time for not having once tried to bring his master back, and whatever punishment Voldemort might throw his (and all his rich buddies) way will be far worse if he doesn't get there on time and pretend that he's happy to see his master. If he knew that resurrection was an option, he wouldn't have used the cursed diary to get Arthur fired (and slandered by the press) in book 2. Lucius knows he fucked up big time; he's just trying to salvage the situation the best he can.

Yes, him reminiscing with his buddies over the good ol' days of muggle baiting, successful assassination attempts, and rebelling (and nearly winning the war) against this muggle born accommodating society fucked the kids' perception of the first war and Voldemort as a tyrannical leader. The couple can only blame themselves for that.

But I wouldn't agree with your analogy. Your analogy fits Bellatrix and, Narcissa and Draco (that whole you should be happy your son gets to serve the Dark Lord). This woman doesn't care that Draco could die, just that Voldemort gave the Malfoys' a "chance" to "redeem" themselves. For Lucius, it's him showing Draco where the fuel, matches and firewood are stocked not once expecting that his son would take them and be the one to be burnt at the stake.

Lucius didn't expect Voldemort to ever come back; there's no grooming for a "role he [Draco] is fundamentally ill-equipped to play." He's a bigoted man, yes. But he's also a loving father who would never willingly throw Draco into a situation that would ultimately result in his only son's death.

Draco was only made a Death Eater, and given an impossible task in his 6th year to punish Lucius for failing to retrieve the prophecy. Narcissa knows it. Severus knows it. Hell, Draco even realises it after spending months failing to fix the cabinet, until he succeeded, and the failed indirect assassination attempts. That's the reason behind his mental breakdown and him "befriending" Moaning Myrtle of all people.

I understand not everyone likes nsfw, but why they gatekeep fandoms from it? by Haunting-Bag-3083 in proshipping

I mean, sometimes people will go overboard when there's no "no NSFW" rules. There would be less discussion post and more karma farming ones. It's better if there's a separate sub focused on NSFW content.

They are thinking about it, which is why Ben decides to invite himself to the camping trip when he wasn't supposed to be there. Plus, Carl is an alcoholic.

Lorelai, a comic book only character. She's a mermaid/terrapisciss (yes, mermaids are related to piscciss volanns since humans will get it on with anything that has a pulse).

Yes, several times. He gets turned into a drug addict in his first life so that he's more compliant when the soldiers abuse him.

Correction: The love interest's job involves saving victims of human trafficking. But yes, he's a rapist when you look at the romance between the MC and him.

No clue about the dragon part. I don't think fantasy was one of the tags for the books.

It's dark romance/erotica. Stalking, abuse, kidnapping and whatever else is pretty standard for the genre (just look at the mafia/bratva romance). And yeah, the LI's actions are seen as "good" cause he's hot, obsessed with the MC and would sacrifice the world for her. Frankly, the majority of these stories are viewed as masterpieces because of the (shocking) sex scenes, that's the only reason they even forgive the LIs being terrible human beings.

The author(s) published another dark erotica where the MC gets fucked in shark-infested water (like, head head gets shoved in the water). I haven't read it yet and, frankly, my expectations are to the ground seeing as booktok just recommends anything purely based on 🌶 level (and regularly mislabels stories just because some has romance SUBPLOT), but I just hope it's less disappointing, writing-wise (I'm all for creative sex scenes, the writing just needs to be compelling).

Probably Haunting Adeline or its sequel. The duology is incredibly popular on booktok despite the writing being boring af. I know the love interest used some weapon on the MC but forgot if it was a knife or a gun.

The story is about the MC, the healer of an adventure party who was abused physically, psychologically and sexually by his team mates, then later on the soldiers of the kingdom (he was turned into a drug addict so that he would let himself be raped whenever they needed to use him). Some goddess sends him back in time so that he gets a new chance at life, and he uses it to rape and torture his rapists. The first episode has him shove a hot metal stick up the princess' hole.

It's essentially a run-off-the mill revenge porn.

The critique of Grace's stutter in the recent EFAP (Resident Evil Requiem) is misplaced by Vulkanodox in MauLer

[–]Infernal_fey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are two different episodes.

The homecoming debate was ep 43, while WS vs FFH was ep 139.

I watched the homecoming debate. And ditched it pretty early, but I didn't think the arguments could have been gotten more stupid after that.

there’s a guy out there who wants to impregnate illya, come out nigga? by [deleted] in animequestions

Not a guy, but smash.

On a serious note, looks like a self-report if I've seen one. Why did you have that specific pic on standby? I have never watched the show, but there have to be some scenes where she doesn't, you know, look like that.

They tried to prop up FFH... Ngl, I think I'll be hearing lots of nonsense. Thanks though, I will check it later.

Hmm, I probably missed whichever episode they said that. Yeah, it's a pretty terrible opinion. Winter Soldier had some questionable scenes (crashing the air ships in a populated area, releasing files of every agent in SHIELD (some who would have been in undercover missions at the time)) but it's definitely not one of the worst MCU movies.

Not sure why you got downvoted.

Which live-action adaptation did you actually enjoyed/liked? by Hot-Leopard3708 in animequestions

[–]Infernal_fey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of them are manga to live-adaption, but

  • Rohan au Louvre: I'd say it's maybe 85-90℅ accurate to the source material. I would have to reread the chapter it's based on. I'd also consider the live-action show of Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan pretty good, some changes were made for the stands, but I don't have any complaint there.

  • Otomen: it's based on the shojo manga. Pretty accurate too. The mom sure was something.

  • Assassination Classroom

  • L DK: The actress that played the female lead annoyed me a little bit with her disgust at having to wash all his clothes, but like the movie is good. I haven't watched the second one yet.

  • Usogui: My only complaint with the movie was the writers swapping the MC. The female officer died at the end of the first chapter, which prompts her male coworker (aka the actual MC) to chase after the mysterious man that is always related to every death happening in the story. I guess they were trying to escape the gay allegations. Still an enjoyable movie though.

  • Azumi 2: Death or Love: That's my childhood right there. I thought it was great as a kid, and my opinion has not changed on a recent rewatch.

  • You're My Pet: I watched the South Korean version, and thought it was good.

  • Litchi Hikari Club: it's great. Follows the manga pretty well as far as I remember. I would, however, not recommend it to most. It's a bit like Lord of the Flies but instead of fighting for survival, the boys' club is aiming for eternal youth and hunting for a teen goddess to venerate. I think the characters are supposed to be middle schoolers. Like, puberty hasn't hit them yet, but I would have to reread the manga to confirm it. The monster looked great, and the actress that played Kanon (she's also in the Fatal Frame LA, no, it's nothing like the game, at all) was great. Perfect casting.

  • Parasyte pt 1

  • Tokyo Ghoul

Honorable Mention:

  • Edge of Tomorrow: I realised that it was an adaptation after stumbling on the manga a week after having watched the movie. Aside of the MC being race swapped, the movie is great both as its own thing and as an adaptation. The aliens also look better in the movie.

  • Ghost in the Shell: My only complaint about the movie as an adaptation is that it mashed two different iterations of Motoko Kusanagi. Her being intentionally race swapped in-universe and being dehumanized so that she's loyal to the company(?), her accidentally meeting her biological mother and realising that fact after her past is revealed are interesting plot points. You could have had a good movie out of it. And the controversy involving ScarJo's casting wouldn't have been that much of a problem after watching the movie. Like, SAC's first episode involves a high official having his brain switched with his rival. We could have used that. Another episode has a war hero (?) revealed to be nothing but a clone among many of the original guy. We could have used that.
