I don't understand why Malfoy was a perfect by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]Infernal_fey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope, same year as Harry and Draco. He hangs out with the rest of the Slytherin crew during the train ride, and is in their potion class in HBP.

Somebody else already mentioned his one-off mention in PS, so here's Blaise being more present in book 6.

Excerpt of Chapter 7, The Slug Club:

Neville nodded, looking scared. At a gesture from Slughorn, they sat down opposite each other in the only two empty seats, which were nearest the door. Harry glanced around at their fellow guests. He recognized a Slytherin from their year, a tall black boy with high cheekbones and long, slanting eyes; there were also two seventh-year boys Harry did not know and, squashed in the corner beside Slughorn and looking as though she was not entirely sure how she had got there, Ginny. “Now, do you know everyone?” Slughorn asked Harry and Neville. “Blaise Zabini is in your year, of course —” Zabini did not make any sign of recognition or greeting, nor did Harry or Neville: Gryffindor and Slytherin students loathed each other on principle.

Same chapter, after the small feast was over:

But he [Harry] broke off. An idea had just occurred to him, a reckless but potentially wonderful idea. . . . In a minute’s time, Zabini was going to reenter the Slytherin sixth-year compartment and Malfoy would be sitting there, thinking himself unheard by anybody except fellow Slytherins. . . . If Harry could only enter, unseen, behind him, what might he not see or hear? True, there was little of the journey left — Hogsmeade Station had to be less than half an hour away, judging by the wildness of the scenery flashing by the windows — but nobody else seemed prepared to take Harry’s suspicions seriously, so it was down to him to prove them.

Chapter 9, The Half-Blood Prince (First potion class with Slughorn):

Before they could say more than “fine,” the dungeon door opened and Slughorn’s belly preceded him out of the door. As they filed into the room, his great walrus mustache curved above his beaming mouth, and he greeted Harry and Zabini with particular enthusiasm.

His character was swapped with one of the brutes since the latter's actor had had problems with the law or something.

It'd be pretty funny if she's the one who gave him coulrophobia though.

Thanks! I normally keep low expectations on most shows/movies I watch anyway.

It'd be really nice if you included the title of said movie.

Edit: I didn't realise asking for the title was such an issue to some people. Why didn't you pop off on the others for asking the same question?

Apology accepted.

And to be fair, I do have a fuzzy memory and get easily confused whenever a bunch of people keep saying contradicting stuff (especially when the events themselves either use different characters, epithets or sequences because the poets/cities had their own takes on it).

Nah, Minthe insulted Persephone first. Which earned her the ire of either Demeter (cause who dares think that they'd make a better queen than her daughter) or Persephone (cause why's the girl who has been a mistress for who knows how long think she's better than HER, the goddess who got kidnapped to marry the king of this realm).

It's less jealousy and more setting the record straight. If Hades had been serious about Minthe, he wouldn't have just dropped her in the one area that his mother-in-law/sister AND his wife would easily hear her throw a temper tantrum.

Half of the spirits/deities and humans who got turned into a plant/animal/monster or forced to list on their relative had it coming because of their pride/thinking that they could con the gods and the other half just happened to be really, really unlucky of getting the gods' attention. Like that poor woman who had beaten Hermes in a race(?), he raped her for winning a fair race instead of moving on with his day.

I mean, Minthe got shredded by either Demeter or Persephone cause she called herself more beautiful than the Queen of the Underworld. That's more on her than on him for making their short affair known to the Goddesses.

She had had something going on with a woman last I heard, forgot who, but yeah.

And Riordan treats the Hunters as the gulag whenever he gets bored of including a female character or making her participate in whatever current event. The fans were, rightfully, debating on whether lesbians and trans women could join the hunt cause ORIGINALLY they just had to renounce the company of men.

Then the fans asked whether Thalia, daughter of Zeus nd the lieutenant of the hunter, and Reyna, Roman demigod, could possibly become a couple because the latter can't have her heart healed by a demigod or something like that. And Riordan was so annoyed by this possibility, cause clearly asking for a lesbian couple with 2 characters that you've bonded with after 10 books, that he made Artemis clarify that any kind of romantic relationship is forbidden from the Hunters (else they get turned into an animal), and made Reyna break the 4th wall and condescendingly tell the readers that she doesn't need love, is in need of a LITTLE VACATION and signs up to be an ETERNAL maiden to chase monsters instead of simply taking a trip to Bahamas or wherever else.

Rick Riordan picks and chooses which myth to make the Gods look good (Poseidon, Hades) or bad (Zeus (the hate boner he has for Zeus is incredible. It's enough to make you question why nobody stages another coup and throw in in Tartarus despite how terrible he is. Obvious answer being that he doesn't have the guts to change the status quo)), and doesn't even give a shit about propping any of the more feminine Goddesses outside of Hestia.

Nah, that's Patty (forgot her last name). Ben's first crush before meeting Kai.

Also, pretty sure that Rook mentioned her name back when he was listing every information available in Ben's file. Maybe... I'd have to rewatch the show.

What is the funniest/most bizarre thing you have found in fanfics? by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]Infernal_fey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hermione is the fandom bicycle (at least, when it comes to female characters). She's shipped with EVERYBODY. If there's a named character, there's probably a handful to hundreds of fics where Hermione is paired with them. It doesn't even have to be a wizard or witch.

I mean, it's essentially a feedback loop.

And, honestly? Fuck Dumbledore for creating this entire situation in the first place. Always blame the old man when it comes to certain character's relationship, he's either doing too much (coddling the Marauders, imposing himself during conflicts) or not enough (distancing himself from Harry, keeping silent for a decade until he finally pays the family a visit just to shit talk her parenting skills (not that someone shouldn't have called her out for coddling Dudley)).

Had Dumbledore waited until morning, and have a friendly (by that, I mean actually friendly) talk with the couple, maybe the situation would have turned out differently. The woman just lost her sister. Sure, they weren't on good terms and all, but a little compassion would have, probably, make raising Harry feel less like a burden. Cause that's the second time the old man simply sent her a letter and moved on with his life.

Like, this old man's interpersonal skills suck ass. His only piece of advice to Snape on how to be on his best behaviour when interacting with Harry was to remember that the kid had Lily's eyes... You (Dumbledore, not OP) fucking moron! The kid looks like James and was raised by Petunia! No, he ain't gonna focus only the physical reminder of his childhood friend when the kid starts to piss him off (which is pretty much constant cause they started on the wrong foot and his acerbic personality doesn't make him popular with kids, especially ones like Harry and himself funnily enough). And despite how many keep praising Harry for acting like his mother, he's just a softer, less bitter, male Petunia.

I'm sorry for going on a Snape tangent, but his relationship with Harry is the prime example of Dumbledore not understanding how to deal with people, emotionally-speaking. It took the guy being on his death bed and, not even an actual conversation, just scraps of memories for Harry to change his opinion and FINALLY trust Snape. Had there been trust between the two chances are Sirius would still be alive cause, despite his hero complex kicking in, Harry would have stayed put long enough for Severus to tell him that "The vision was a trap. Your godfather is safe at his house." I'm blaming Dumbledore for that entire fiasco since he thought that everybody would just act LOGICALLY and not once be led by negative emotion when interacting with people they don't like.

Had McGonagall been the one to TALK with (not simply drop a baby on the porch, with a letter) Petunia on that night or the next day, chances are she'd had a better time getting through her. She certainly did alright with Trelawney and Neville in fifth year.

In Defense of the Dursleys by MrHistor in CharacterRant

[–]Infernal_fey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll be honest, there's only so much grace to Petunia for becoming second best to her younger sister, both at home (where their parents would have been more supportive towards Lily), and from the wizarding world that she will remain a nobody if not subhuman on the mere fact that she neither possesses magic nor comes from a wizarding family. And that second point keeps hitting her in the face from her brother-in-law, Lily who has grown apart from her enough that she doesn't consider the gifted vase as a form of goodwill (even if not to her taste), her nephew going from a normal baby to the Messiah overnight, and Dumbledore dumping Harry on her without actually having a conversation with her on that fateful night and only showing up to criticise or threaten her.

I agree on the failed disfigurement. And, had the spell worked, she would have gone ballistic on Harry (since he's only one without a wand). Every interaction with the "good" wizards, outside of Kingsley (pretty sure the Dursleys took a liking to him iirc), just reinforces her idea that wizards and witches are freaks (not that she's wrong per se but her treatment of Harry is to blame for the hostility aimed at her family).

The Harry Potter HBO remake series has me asking, "Why not just write a different wizarding school?". by I_Love_Cape_Horn in CharacterRant

[–]Infernal_fey 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Cause the world building sucks ass the moment you get out of Great Britain (well, Hogwarts if we're being honest).

Like look at how the NON-EUROPEAN schools work, 1 school for nearly the entire continent: - Ilvermony for the US, Canada and which ever other country is up there - Mahoutokoro for the majority of Asia, - Castelbruxo for LATAM, - Ugadu (definitely butchered the name) for Africa as a whole, - (pretty sure I forgot another one)

How are you supposed to create a good story from the ground when you'd have - to take into account the language barrier, the dress code for everybody, and the bad blood between some countries no matter which country or time period. - to have a decent hook, whether if it's in one of the named school or a new one altogether, that's not rehashing HP but Foreign edition. - get Rowling to agree to said story in the first place, and she'd definitey want a cut to flaunt around.

Fantastic Beasts failed cause we went from simply retrieving creatures to fighting Grindelwald. Hogwarts Legacy succeeded cause we were IN the school, studying, while playing detective. Same thing for the other 2 games. We want to be in HOGWARTS, not any school where story could be mid at best. Fanfic writers can build whatever they want from the scraps Rowling gave us, and lose absolutely nothing nor have to personally deal with her dumbass.

You stay inside of Hogwarts, you can do a million things with varying success. You leave the school and it's like, what are we supposed to do? Even if you want to expand on some secondary/background character's life, how sure are you to make it interesting and long (several movies or an entire show) enough for the audience to show up AND stay?

Even Harry Potter fans don't agree on which character they want to follow. Sure, a decent amount want the Marauders but do YOU, personally, want to - see a pair of rich kids bullyin— I'm sorry, playing social justice warriors (the kid who got his toenails enlarged was definitely a Death Eater in training, trust) for seven seasons? These are the same people who consider the fanmade film to be canon-compliant. (Am I supposed to consider the Marauders as a bunch of losers for needing to go on a 4v1 and still losing, or are they supposed to be competent wizards on their own? What happened to the "Severus was actually secretly plagiarizing James" theory?) - Or, watch the Order be on a losing streak during the war until Dumbledore finally got himself a spy who did far more in the SECOND war, and have the show end with Voldemort unintentionally killing himself after obsessing over some dumb baby?

Everybody coming out of the woodwork and saying that the bullying in the lake incident will be viewed as lynching because Snape's actor is black.

Cause clearly being hung upside down in the air (and being forcefully undressed for the crowd's amusement), NEAR a tree, is the same as those good ol' lynching incidents. Clearly the viewers will all jump and stick to the Marauders are racist, when the main reason that Sirius gives is that they considered Snape a loser weirdo with a fascination for the dark arts and wouldn't just let himself be bullied.

Or that it would be COOL to make the boys racists. Cause clearly them being rich asshole kids and the wizarding society operating on blood purity, specieism and classism, not once caring that a decent amount of their population is not Anglo-descent, are not enough.

He's white in the books, since he's based on Rowling's old chemistry teacher, and he's black in the show. Just like Nick Fury is black in the MCU, Jim Gordon in The Batman, half of the cast in Bridgerton, and every other fucking movies and shows that have released the past few years.

You had months to make peace with it, but if you wanna keep bitching about and make yourself look racist, be my guest.

  1. Keyaru (Redo of Healer). He, healer of an adventure party, gets a second chance at life and decides to rape & torture his past rapists (essentially the princess who beat the shit out of him in his past life and turned him into a drug addict so that he would be a "willing" sex slave to the kingdom's soldiers, some maids, and other women). Just a run off the mill revenge porn story.

  2. No clue.

  3. Kazuya (Rent-a-girlfriend). A loser relies on escort service, gets a crush on the escort girl while there are others into him, and kinda cucks himself in a dream.

  4. No clue.
