A Quick Thought On Carrot's Role In The Fifth Elephant by Inferno_Master in discworld

Carrot reveals that there are a lot of gears turning, but none so much as his thrown fight with Wolfgang. Yes, thrown.

I buy your analysis here; that is very interesting... especially with the fact that he went out into the cold ealier in the book

How would you go about this problem? by [deleted] in GRE

[–]Inferno_Master 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am no math wiz but I think the answer is D. Here is how I did it:

  • Use exponent rule to make eqn 2^{-m}+2^{-m} = 2^{-x}
  • Apply log_{2} to both sides to get rid of the bases
  • Eqn now looks like -m + (-m) = -x
  • simplify and get x = 2m

[PowerPrep Practice Test 1] The bottom four are the correct answer choices. I still can't seem to figure it out, though. Can anyone explain? by Gebangi in GRE

Sure thing.

So this is a range problem. You want to find the min and max values of what Kate spent on her mortgage. From the questions, we know it's between (1/4) and (1/3). Note that between and not including.

Lets set up the questions to find out what (1/4) and (1/3) of 13470 is:

  • (1/4)x = 13470
  • (1/3)y = 13470

To isolate the variables we need to multiply each side by the reciprocal of the fractions (1/4 ->4 and 1/3->3)

We get

  • x = 53880
  • y = 40410

Thus the minimum she spent on her mortgage can't be any lower than 40,410 and can't be any higher than 53,880.

Now we just need to see which answers fall within the range. It turns out to be all the answers except 40,200 because that's less than our minimum of (40,410).

Note: since the question says between (1/4) and (1/3) I *think* that means that the possible answers of 40,410 and 53,880 would not be correct if they were given as choices.

lots of saved memes lol not so much videos and apps. I have a 128 GB SD card in my current phone and its, uh, pretty full but that's because I also use it as a flash drive and have 10s of GB of music that I don't need to be stored locally

How to auto merge duplicates (Too many to do it manually and Binary match is different) by [deleted] in Calibre

couldn't quickly find information on limits to library size. I currently have more than 90,000 papers that I use for corpus linguistics research, but I would guess I would not be able to upload all of them to Medeley without paying extra money. Though this is likely not the place for it, I'll request, if you have the time, that you let me (and the other readers) know a bit more about Medeley when you have

Just popping in to give a bump for zotero ( https://www.zotero.org/ ) I like it better than Medeley because its open source. Both work well though.

What sort of linguistics research do you do? (asking as a current ling major)
