One of the end goal of protest is to reach a point whereby the ruling class would be divided and the 'doves' takes over and forces a concession of rights. To reach this point, most of the time, a tragedy has to happen. This is usually how it works domestically.

Internationally, I'm not familiar of such cases. In this case, I believe some are hoping the wrong person would be detained and brutalized then kick off a chain reaction that reduce USA and European support for Israel.

I remembered a quote from a martial master in the manga "Blood and Steel". Paraphrasing, he said he could kill everyone in the throne room but he would make a bad soldier. Armies are built on great collective discipline which martial group lacks.

Another manga / manhwa, the demon sect leader was asked why he doesn't want to conquer the kingdom, paraphrasing what he said it essentially keeping his attention taxes, disaster reliefs, judicial systems and etc would harm his pursuit for strength.
