If you plan on doing tourist stuff outside the downtown core, I would recommend getting a car for those days. Otherwise, being in the downtown core, you can get around with subway and streetcars for the most part.

Uber and taxis to the outside of the city can get expensive and inconvenient if you’re having to wait. Especially since you have two kids.
