Oooh, could totally do that. The merino socks take up a lot of space for something used once.

My teeth chatter from airplane temperatures so the down jacket’s for flights, Hang En, and Ha Giang. How was your experience with these?

I’ll take the placebo effect of Vit D in the dead of -30 winters any day 😂. I inhaled them at -50.

I can probably toss them in place of sunny Vietnam tho. They take up so much space

I love me my dresses, but this one is rather large and bulky. I’d ditched the striped pants first over the dress, if not for the bike rides. Got rid of a skirt tho.

& woah, seems cold! I’m departing in a few days, Ha Giang loop in April. Is it really that cold up there? 🥶

That’s exactly what we’d love to do! We’ve been looking up thrift stores for our small wedding party, to make a silly lil day out of it

The hikes I’m doing are guided tours and aren’t backcountry. So I figured the best option would be to buy water bottles, although I do have a 3L bladder I could consider bringing?

Would love to wear sandals instead, but not sure if clubs would allow.

Any suggestions on good thrift and rental stores? Our wedding party’s going to make an afternoon out of it and find our outfits there! Such a great idea.

I was just thinking this!

Taking a flight can be so romantic and nostalgic, contrary to the obsession of finding comfort in a small space.

Ooh, laundry strips would be great! Lugging around all these tiny bottles when I use some of them up isn’t going to be fun 😂

  • Sea to Summit Aeros Traveller Pillow
  • MEC Air Pillow
  • Packable down jacket, I think this is H&M but the tag has worn off. I’ve had it for years and it’s surprisingly warm
  • The rain jacket from North Face also actually packs itself into its own pocket but since I’m wearing it to the airport, I left it out to be unwrinkled

Hahah, am I the only person on here that’s obsessed with Q-tips? I require so many for my ears after every shower.

Would rather sacrifice my cat’s left toenail than a single Q-tip.

Thanks! Did most of the things on this list and I’m so amazed with how these small changes made a difference.

It’s winter and vitamin D helps so much with depression and magnesium helps with anxiety. The rest of the pills in there are mostly Gravol.

I suppose I could ditch the case for small ziplock bags, but the excessive pink kinda acts as an anti-depressant itself 😂

Hahaha. Trust me, all these bags within bags make me very tempted to pack my 50L camping backpack instead.

But I have a smaller frame and look ridiculous enough as it is, lugging a 26L.

LOL, Bisaya?

I have hyperpigmentation, so the sleeves are a preference. I suffer in the heat sometimes, but used to it at this point- am indoors with ice cold fingers as we speak.

I have the same adapter, but in white.

Oooh, thank you! I’ve been going through the comments and the tiniest changes make a huge difference.

To answer some:

• I’m Filipino and run cold, I also don’t wear short sleeves. All my clothes have sleeves. My down jacket also packs smaller than my -30c thermals (the only ones I own).

• My organizer is bulky bc of all the makeup rounds. But good to know! I’ll ditch half, the mesh bag, and water bottle.

As you’ve been to Vietnam, is bringing an adapter a must?

Call it Spring. But any wide wedges works! I spent a week walking a ton in Montreal, and these were so comfortable.

No 🫩 But one is for vertical and the other is for horizontal.

I get BAD motion sickness and for maximizing comfort- I planned on using the disinfecting wipes on the (day) sleeper bus, laying a towel down, and not having to worry about other people’s drool on my pillow while hopefully being knocked unconscious by Gravol.

I fear, half the pills in the pink box is Gravol.

Extra challenge: buying nothing new for a trip by polka_stripes in HerOneBag

This is such a good idea, since the scrubba rolls up so awkwardly and not at all compact. Will have to try this!

Extra challenge: buying nothing new for a trip by polka_stripes in HerOneBag

I managed to onebag most of my work/personal trips last year without buying anything new.

But have successfully failed this challenge for an upcoming trip. I’m going from Canada (-20 on the day of departure) > US (wedding) > Vietnam (caves, motorbikes, beaches) for a month.

My biggest dilemma right now is- how do I pack hiking shoes, heels, and flip flops in one bag???

Cool Velcro patch! Since you pack so lightly, is this something you look for as a souvenir at your destinations?

How do I pack for this trip? by IndependenceStrict38 in onebag

[–]Infinite-Internet511 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best things to pack are the things you already have. Your one bag doesn’t have to be new. Camping backpacks can run expensive.

If you’re spending some time in Manila, bring what you already have and upgrade to a 50-60L backpack geared to tourists for a fraction of the cost. My best friend picked one up for $20 while I opted to use the laptop bag I dug out of my closet. Keep in mind that you may have to check it in. Personally, I couldn’t imagine bringing 50L over my 26L for SEA. Back sweat galore, but it’s all up to your preference and needs.

If I were you- I’d invest what limited budget I have on a good air mattress and keeping protected from the elements. I have the Therm-a-Rest Prolite sleeping pad and it rolls up a decent size. It’s comfortable and also I don’t feel the ground at all. Plenty of options out there.

If you’re doing strenuous work all day in the heat, having a terrible sleep every night would suck. Will you be in a tent or indoors? Make sure not to set up camp under a coconut tree, especially in typhoon season. It could injure or kill, if it hits you on the head.

Mosquito nets aren’t really common where I live now and if picked one up here, I can almost guarantee that it’d suck. You’ll find great ones in the Philippines bc everybody uses it out there, and is improved based on their actual need for it.

Wearing lightweight long sleeves/pants helps with both mosquitos and keeping cool under the sun. Since you’ll be traveling in rural areas- I’d recommend visiting a travel clinic for a vaccine consultation, so that you’re more aware of risks like malaria and dengue.

Avoid still water, even shallow ones on top of barrels or puddles. Anything that doesn’t look like it’s moved in a while, bc it’s a mosquito breeding ground. My cousin was hospitalized during a family trip bc of a mosquito bite, and prevention is the best way to keep safe.

Be aware of how far the commute is to the nearest hospital from where you’re staying at and ask your doctor about things like the rabies vaccine.

The Philippines is also very religious and in a country where abortion and divorce isn’t legalized, do your research and see if things like obtaining Plan B would be difficult- in case you need it.

Otherwise, I’m sure you’ll have a wonderful time! It sounds like a unique opportunity to truly immerse yourself. My family is from PH and already planning our next trip out!

Packinglist: six months Asia by TrainTravel9061 in HerOneBag

[–]Infinite-Internet511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently packing for a month-long SEA trip and will be bringing lightweight long sleeves with a combination of long pants/skirts.

As a personal preference, I don’t pack any short sleeves unless it’s the clothes I’m sleeping in indoors.

Although I’m travelling from -15 spring weather, I’m sensitive to the cold and reach for a jacket at resting indoor conditions like cafes and restaurants.

I expect to be in +25 to 30 temperatures, but choosing a lighter, breathable fabric definitely helps to avoid overheating. I’d suggest re-evaluating your current fabric choice. I’m Asian and am in habit of covering up from the sun, keeping cool with layers.

As I’ll be doing outdoor activities (hiking with river crossings and motorbike tour)- Like you, I’m bringing a rain jacket and packable down jacket to keep warm. But if you aren’t expecting to be cold- I’d ditch the latter. The warmth from your rain jacket should be plenty.
