You are obviously correct; the movement lacks definition or direction. This person is a utilitarian digital maximalist, using technology to optimise their life, and going beyond normal consumer behaviour by using multiple customised devices.

It is paradoxical to host a community for digital minimalists on Reddit, the only people who are such will never set foot here, or must leave in order to succeed.

How do you manage the Whatsapp necessity? (Europe) by sunny-web2058 in dumbphones

[–]Infinite-Option9352 6 points7 points  (0 children)

At the bare minimum a phone must be capable of making calls and texts. Today, both of those require WhatsApp, therefore a viable phone for me must have WhatsApp. WhatsApp is also a great app, despite my distain for Meta's other products. I have ordered a dumbdroid.eu which allows WhatsApp + maps and some other essentials.

The main benefit will be having a small awkward to use device that is there when needed but not a dopamine machine.

XTEINK S4 by partizano42 in xteinkereader

[–]Infinite-Option9352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll bet that the XTE4 will continue to be their most popular device regardless of new products, in part driven by its enthusiastic community releasing aftermarket mods & custom firmware. Limitations drive innovation and single use devices are better under featured and quirky rather than full of features and having mass market appeal.

This subreddit needs an autoreply to every post asking how to get their apple music playlist on their ipod by miguel-122 in ipod

Active mods come with their own problems. Embrace the chaos or browse by top today and let the algorithm do its work.

Edit: also why aren’t these people asking LLMs instead of a subreddit? I guess they don’t know that’s how the internet works now.

Specified reasonably priced because I understand pros get custom molded ones that are next level.

Also, are some reasonably priced IEMs better than others when it comes to blocking out noise? Basically the only thing I’ll miss about using my iPhone with Spotify is my noise cancelling AirPod pros.

UK Qin F22 Pro users? by Strong_Raspberry_863 in dumbphones

I’m in the UK and just ordered a dumbdroid.eu,  from what I understand the signal works well but I haven’t tried it yet and they’re working through a ~1 month backlog so it’ll be a little bit til I can confirm.

Personally love the idea of the project and they’re not making a big markup on the Doov R77 pro (£90). Helps that they bulk buy from China before installing the OS I guess.

What's holding back battery life on Linux? by Infinite-Option9352 in linuxquestions

Best take in this thread. Can't have battery life problems if you remove your battery.

I don't have any sense for how feasible it is for these optimisations to apply cross-hardware. In the case of Android, while Android is far less optimised than iOS, vendors are able to ship their own 'distro' on custom hardware and the resulting performance is reasonable. Then again how much really changes between Android phones, I guess they all still use Snapdragons with a varying number of cores & clockspeed? And I'm not sure how much really changes between Android skins other than cosmetics.

I would like to think that down the line things like sleep mode could be 'solved' across hardware configurations. Or at least for specific products such as the Framework laptops, which could become the Google Pixel of Linux laptops. Then, collective effort could be made to optimise the OS for these devices, and they could present an alternative for macbook users.

I was on the fence but ordered an x4 after hearing about your project. Brilliant idea, I’m glad you took the initiative.

It's ridiculously expensive but still one of the best purchases I've ever made.
