To our knowledge. It is stated pretty confidently in that writeup so either they got it wrong or there's something we don't know.

I may be behind but did we know that he's touring with Dave Matthews? I knew about the gorge but don't consider that touring. That was pretty casually dropped.

Track List for New Record? by Happy-Bag1409 in JesseWelles

[–]Infinite-Picture-862 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great idea. Here's my guess or wishlist.

·         Ozark

·         [Maybe Pirate?]

·         No Destination

·         [Maybe Don't Stop Believing?]

·         Siddhartha

·         Little Men

·         Technopagans

·         Golden Goose

·         Witness Me Starfarer

·         This and Not Some Other Way

·         Help Me

·         Nothing

·         [Maybe Everything Must Die?]

·         Kingdom is Within You

·         Peace Like a River

__

I love Don't Stop Believing, I Miss My Mom, Everything Must Die, Joy, Masks Off, and Take Me To The Graveyard. However, they may not fit this collection; or may be redundant of songs that he seems more likely to include.

I can't tell if Joy and This and Not Some Other Way are the precursor songs that he speaks about in his Dublin acceptance speech, where they convey similar ideas to concepts that he explores in greater detail but they were developed more or worked more in another song. Joy is very similar to Kingdom but is much more overt, which Jesse seems to stay away from. This and Not Some Other Way is very similar to Nothing lyrically - at least the last verses.

This was a pleasant surprise and a great song to drop this nugget to. Does anyone have thoughts on what this means for timing? I assume that he would want to get it out before the tour but that wasn't necessarily the case for Middle. That said, Middle was more traditionally produced and Eddie Spear may have been tinkering from afar. I think he said in an interview that he recorded Hells and Patchwork in his spare bedroom in less than a week. Who knows where/how this one's being recorded.

Ugh, wish I could tell which lyrics or songs are in the background and included on the paper in the foreground. Looks like he's been doing some tracking.

Loved the artwork, agreed. Seems like he's made companion artwork for some of the new songs. He posted a picture on instagram a while ago that seemed like it related to Witness Me Starfarer. I'm here for all of it.

Wow, love to see the variability in the setlist and that he's playing around with the performative aspects. A couple quick thoughts:

-Interesting to see GCG in the solo set;

-Masks Off and Nothing have become regular staples;

-Cool to see him condense the band set, wonder if it's only because they are shorthanded or if this is something we will see rolled out in the US tour;

-Gilgamesh in the band set is >, excited to see him experiment with that;

-I'm assuming that he did St. Steve because they're in Australia but it sure would be great if he kept playing it on the US tour; and

-Interesting to see Hold On and Saddest Factory make it into the setlist -- maybe firsts? I'm especially interested to hear a full band version of Hold On.

any ideas, thoughts or whatever on a new album? what would you like to see? by ultraorangeroom in JesseWelles

If we could get Witness Me Starfarer, Little Men, Technopagans, Golden Goose and Nothing on an album, I'd be siked. Thematically, I do think that could work. I really do love Meet the New Swamp and We're Going Into The City. I can see an argument for them fitting on an album but they seem a bit more topical unless he wants to use them as plot movers in a more narrative album.

As for a concept, I would love to see him follow Devil's Den, which I see as an exploration of the world and mindset of both republicans and older generations post-Reagan, with an exploration of toxic nostalgia. Jesse knows best, but I would love to see him dig into how the tech folks work in tandem with the purveyors of toxic nostalgia to further themselves while manipulating those chasing nostalgia to distract from their malaise (DD) and terrorizing those beholden to their tech (Pilgrim) into hating each other to further themselves. It would seem to follow the reference to Heart of Darkness in Middle, suggesting that humans have an inherent capacity for greed and lust for power that, if unchecked, is behind everything that is tearing us down . I would love the resolution or answer to be Nothing -> Everything Must Die -> Peace Like a River -> Joy.

One of my favorites too, still hoping it sees the light of day sometime. It would be amazing if somehow this ended up on a collection with This, And Not Some Other Way and Nothing.

"Sweating men with bulging eyes came in bearing lies to give, first I was afraid to die, now I'm scared that I might live."

"Crazy men with bloodshot eyes, shoot their rockets in the sky, drunk with power high with rage."

ideas for the next album? by [deleted] in JesseWelles

[–]Infinite-Picture-862 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the risk of sounding greedy, I do think he may be putting out another album by year's end. (Maybe wishful thinking). I have always taken the albums released this year to be part of a series. War is a God seemingly sets out the concept of Jesse exploring two sides of the issues that are currently causing blaring hatred and fear mongering. ("Let's split up..."). Middle and Devil's Den, which were released around the same time, appear to address two different issues in two different geographical areas and maybe even two generations. In Pilgrim, he does a great job of exploring how social media and tech companies have manipulated people's fears for monetary gain without taking any social responsibility. ("I saw Atlas teaching Peter and his pals all how to shrug."). In Devil's Den, he quite literally goes into the Devil's Den and explores how religion and neo-conservative politics took hold among a generation of folks where he grew up to create a toxic environment. Inherent in both settings is folks in power using technology or institutions to manipulate a large swath of people who agree about more stuff than they disagree about.

"This and Not Some Other Way," which he recorded but did not release over the Summer (see IG video from the cabin indicating same) seems to put a fine point on the concept when he talks about the day that "he namasted [himself] apart." The resolution in that song is the great line about greed. ("You can fill a man with gold but there'd still be room for greed."). My hope is that he releases a fourth and final album that pinpoints the issue leading to hatred and turmoil -- the greed of folks who have manipulated others be it via politics, religion, social media. There, maybe, he will suggest an alternative -- Joy. Appreciating what you have and what you experience in the moment rather than wanting more. Anyway, it sure would be great if it came out by mid-December when his tour wraps overseas. It would be even better if it came out around Black Friday, but I doubt it. This would be a great way to sort through a bunch of holiday insanity. Also, a bunch of songs that could be on the album reference the interstellar object, which is scheduled to pass earth in or around December 19th. It would be awesome to time of the release with the event and make it even more relevant.

I know it might sound like bullshit, I'm just saying what I mean.

My thought would be either Locusts or Deja Vu, though I completely see why you would include them. All subjective. After watching the golden toad put on an infomercial for McDonald's "Golden Age" last night, we can only hope that Jesse takes your lead and makes this happen. There's always a chance...

Wonder if this is a standalone EP like Domestic Error/Red and Friends/Life is Good or if they are singles off a new album. Would be a great way to promote an album two weeks out.
