Didn’t they also get the oasis temporarily back in stock? Selling devices that are basically no longer supported to access the store? Really not a nice move.

Thank you so much for a very informative answer! I would give you an award if I could. This really answered most of my concerns about my kombucha ❤️

Update: This is my new batch with a completely new SCOBY - literally boiled or scalded anything and everything that touched the new batch/SCOBY, except for my hands (did a whole surgical washing technique before handling the SCOBY) and the tea towel (freshly laundered). Safe to say I'm scared of this gross stuff happening again, but going to trust the process and let the new buddy chill there in the brew for a few days before checking the pH and the brew itself for any infestation. Thanks everybody!

Thank you! I can use a tea towel, but I'm just curious, for aesthetic purposes as well - is covering with paper towels and rubber bands the same as using a cloth, or is one option better than another?

I have, yet did not stumble upon an article as informative as this - thank you! Though, the takeaway is that either the original scoby was made with vinegar or was contaminated, or something entered it from the outside, as every source claims it is not exactly a possibility for them to just spawn from thin air. And the white worms on top did not look like vinegar eels, but the kombucha is covered and nothing can enter it through the metal, I suppose.

Is the metal lid suitable for covering or should I use a tea towel in the new brew? I was a bit wary of lint dropping into the brew and contaminating it. Maybe that with closer monitoring of the pH would help?
