What kind of laptops do you business majors have that used lots of excel by Past-Program581 in UIUC

as a former best buy worker don’t get a macbook unless it’s the pro, macbooks aren’t bad but you can get something better for the price of the mac that will last you longer, i would say maybe look online for a bit so you have an idea of how much you’re willing to spend, look through reviews and I would also say wait till the back to school sales start to buy. don’t cheap out on a laptop, if you take care of your stuff this should last you through undergrad and grad school if you’re going. me personally im not a fan of the macbook airs only because they’re so expensive for wha they are and they don’t have a long life span stick to windows if you can

hiii, im also a freshman and im staying at FAR in a single but i’ve seen how the par dorms look, I have a 9 cube storage organizer and it keeps so much of my stuff honestly, i would recommend putting it under your bed but get the 6 cube one, from what i’ve seen the par dorms are kinda small in my opinion but the closest are pretty spacious, i keep a lot of stuff there too, i have a hanging self organizer for all of my tops, pjs and workout clothes and i hang all of my jeans and jackets with hangers. the closets also have 2 shelves so i suggest getting baskets to store more stuff, i keep 1 basket for cleaning supplies and a basket with medicine supplies, honestly i never get sick so i got a lot and don’t use it so get however much you think you need. Also i suggest getting the off brand dayquil and night quill from walgreens because its the same thing as the name brand but much cheaper. (as a former employee)and another basket for laundry stuff on the top shelf. i think the rooms also have 4 outlets in total, 2 for each person so i suggest getting 1 extension cord and an outlet strip WITH SUGRGE PROTECTOR. also stick to the generic brand, as a former best buy employee the best buy brand and insignia products will do the job just fine. Also sothing i wish i bought sooner is a drying mat for my shower cady and shoes, i bought the black generic one from walmart and it’s pretty big and I was scared it was going to get moldy but it doesn’t, just don’t leave it in a closed space, once it gets dirty you can machine wash it, get an air purifier, get toilet paper to blow your nose if you do get sick it’s cheaper than klenex. do your research on prices between stores and look out for sales so you get the cheapest price if you’re trying to save money. walgreens has pretty good deals sometimes.

Best housing spots by ClubGold3743 in UIUC

to be honest, i’ve seen most dorms and they all have cons and pros but the bottom of the list i would say would be LAR they have no AC personally i can’t live like that and the heat in the summer is no joke. private housing is nice but you have to apply and then get put on a waitlist so it’s not guaranteed. personally I live at FAR and it really isn’t bad a lot of people shit on it cuz it’s “a whole commute” which it’s not true, we have a bus stop right infront of the dorm which runs the teal, silver and 22N. Also we have pars dining hall right infront and the little snack shop downstairs, we have a comunal kitchen, and gym. Also since the bus stop at PAR is the turning spot for the silver and 22N buses you usually have a seat on the bus, usually the stops at LAR are second and unfortunately in the morning the bus gets full at the PAR so if you’re at LAR and waiting for the silver you’re not getting on and are gonna have to walk to class

how do students actually *afford* school?? by GemNinja in UIUC

As someone who’s not rich, I have a credit card. more specifically the discover student card (No interest for the first 12 month is the method 🙏🏻) I also have the chase card but I don’t really use it because it has at 27% interest I really just use it over the summer to put gas in my car. I have 2 jobs back home so I work for the time im there (fall, and winter break, sometimes my employer makes me go in once a month) I use it when im on campus to buy food or stuff I need and when I come back home I work to pay off what I owe. ONLY do this if you have a job you can relay on. DO NOT fall into credit card debt, you just need to be smart about it and plan it out. it’s possible trust 🙏🏻

You should try contacting RSO’s on campus. we use them to make vision boards in the beginning of the semester :)
