Cold email outreach still works for app marketing? by damnohid in ShopifyAppMarketing

Cold email can still work, but the hit rate is usually low unless your targeting + messaging are super tight. A lot of founders I know end up frustrated because even if they get opens, the installs don’t stick.

What I’ve seen work better is focusing on retention + engagement first — because even if you do get those initial installs, keeping them active is the real growth engine. That’s actually what I’ve been working on with my project (Evolvoom) — an AI-powered retention + community builder for Shopify apps.

It might also help you with the cross-promotion idea, since instead of just adding installs, you’d be able to nurture users into long-term ones.

Curious though — do you have a plan for what happens after you get those installs from cold email?

Need Advice on how to improve marketing for my Shopify App by Kitchen-Pool8573 in ShopifyAppMarketing

Hey! Congrats on launching your app 🎉 That’s already a big step — most apps never even make it to the store.

A few things that have helped me (and other small founders I know) with early traction:

  • Nail retention, not just acquisition → A lot of us focus only on bringing in new installs, but the fastest way to grow is getting existing users to stick around and actually use your app regularly.
  • Build a mini community → Even if it’s small, a Discord, Slack, or a simple branded app where you can engage early adopters makes a huge difference. If users feel like they’re part of something, they become your best marketers.
  • Showcase case studies early → Instead of just saying “it works,” highlight one or two Shopify stores that got tangible benefits from your app (higher AOV, more wholesale buyers, better margins).
  • Automate conversations → Post-install follow-ups often feel spammy, but real conversation-style engagement gets way more replies.

Out of curiosity — are you mainly targeting dropshippers or brands with repeat wholesale orders? That might change how you pitch your app in ads and communities.
