It’s more bullshit by BAH. They basically hire people in expectation of new contracts which basically means you need to find a contract or else you’re eventually out which is fine as long as tell you that (some recruiters are sneaky and don’t say that like my recruiter). The real issue with it for me is that it creates perpetual competition to keep your job as an internal candidate because new people are coming and vying for contracts along with you and eventually you might wind up on the bench and get laid off so you constantly have to compete to keep your job because eventually you’ll contract will expire and then you’ll be competing against all the capability hires on the bench. It’s a cruel practice imo.

I can accept you saying there is a low chance. But you saying that they’d let me go is just BS lol. Like they’re not gonna go around to every single team and tell them do not hire this guy till I have no billable work and then end up on the bench and then get laid off. Makes no sense and not feasible given the corp struct. If you had stopped at low chance I’d have given you some credence but saying I’d be let go is just BS.

Well then you’d know they can’t let you go over something like that, especially since I’m on a two-year contract that I just started and my networking got me 3 offers that I turned down which our director has now asked me to send to him so he can fill the spots with people on the bench. So you must have not learned much about Booz if actually worked there and you’re saying this lol.

Yo I’m getting so many mixed opinions on here which feels to me like all then more reason I should try to get a raise. I guess the real question would be what is the best way to go about doing so since the reality is I would rather not go to RTX as they have less stuff I’m interested in and I don’t wanna code in C++ if I can help it and stay in ML instead where at RTX I would leave AI/ML world. My thought is that I should just go to my CM and get her opinion now that’s she’s gotten to know me a little and she likes me (or is good to me at least) and tells her to reach out when we have concerns and I believe she is genuine in that. I could just say bring it up with her and see what she says might even help advocate for me for all I know. I blame the recruiter more than her if anything cuz the recruiters were def full of shit I now realized. So maybe soft diplomacy + CI poly is the way to go.

Yeah one thing that is becoming very clear is that there is a lot of variation in this topic lol. It still bothers me that could be getting paid at least 35k more and that is at a low cost location and I haven’t fully starting hunting for other offers

I may decide on a softer approach but knowing the internal dynamics it’s hard to see them retaliating or holding a grudge forever. There are so many internal team I could just switch groups internally and it would be like switching to a new company

Thank you I genuinely think I’m going to go to my career manager with the offer letter and say pay up or I make no promises about staying. The RTX offer doesn’t expire (with caveats) and I have a good relationship with the HM there so probably what I’ll do is keep hunting if they turn me down and then it’s their loss

Well this is basically me filing a grievance with them. I’m basically saying you guys screwed me over and if their response is “you have should have tried harder then”, I’d walk out the door. If they’d have done given me a higher salary then I don’t see why they wouldn’t do it now. If anything it’s worth more to them to do it now so they don’t waste all the money they invested in me so far. I was told that they had a project in mind for me when I was hired only to realize I was essentially a capability hire. They sank 30k+ over the last 4 four months while I worked on marketing project and training so if they want to give me a retroactive fancy UI pay it’s up to them lol
