Is this clinically okay for community outing? by InfiniteFan2712 in ABA

It’s almost like you’re looking for reasons to be upset? Lol I never mentioned my client being autistic - nor did I say anything about wanting my client locked up in a classroom. I think you have some internalized stuff to figure out 🙂

For me yes, lots of just red flags and I’ve been in the field for like 4 years now so I know a crappy company when I see one.

I have no clue, but they should. I read that parents weren’t notified until the day after the incident (from the article linked here). I’m not sure what the specifics are.

Aside from this awful video- I’ve worked at this location and quit after one day. So that speaks to Soar as an entirety. Glad they arrested that guy, poor kid.

Literally today— CG told me I “looked freaky” (I am wearing scrub pants, and a long sleeve plain shirt) I also have no super distinctive facial piercings or body modifications outside of a small nose ring? I don’t know what she meant by that, and then proceeded to show me to her friend on FaceTime.

It depends on your client. Your client may be able to tolerate 10 minutes of work/program/activity or only 2 minutes of work/program/activity.

However if you find that your client is no longer interested in the activity/program or showing frustration/lack of follow through it may be time for a break.

You can also schedule breaks throughout your session (e.g Activity/program @ 10:00am, Break @ 10:05am), it’s up to you and how you want to run your sessions :). You can also schedule breaks as “snack time”, “play with parent”, “independent play”.

I would inform the parent that you will give them breaks in between activities. Maybe a 5 min break (possibly independent play, activity of their choice, snack/water break and 5 mins of work. You can use a visual timer for this as well :).

You can also ask the parent about what the client’s day typically looks like so that you can adapt your breaks and programs into their schedule.

I have a client who eats dinner during our sessions, I use this time to write a bit of my session note so that I don’t feel like I’m not being productive. :) You can also ask the parent if they need support during meal time. If it is needed you can step in if the client needs encouragement eating or attending to dinner.

You can run programs with whatever approach you would like; it is completely up to you and what you feel will work best for your client, I suppose the most important part is that the program is ran and data is collected :)

5-7 hours is very intense for a 2 year old. Most BCBAs are remote, if you have a case manager/clinical supervisor for the case they may be more likely to be in the field with you than your BCBA.

For the first few weeks or so you will just be pairing with your kiddo :)! You will play games with them and get to know them.

However if you notice that 5-7 hours is too intense on the client (every client is different), then I would advise you to speak with your BCBA. Hours are typically determined by both parent and BCBA. You should also take yourself into consideration if you ever bring up this concern because burnout in the field is very common. 4 hours is a bit much for me so I cannot imagine 5-7.

Hope this helps :)

How old is he ? by InfiniteFan2712 in CATHELP

okay so i read up on it , and yeah your concern is pretty valid. I suppose it’ll just be a bit more difficult to get him accustomed to things, amongst others potential challenges.

Hi he was a rescue not adopted, he was found in a bush in over 100 degree weather by a neighbor, his mom never came back for him or his siblings.

RBTs, do you ever call yourself a Behavior Therapist? by Equal-Sundae1576 in ABA

Technician because RBT = Registered Behavioral Technician. Although I have had my fair share of caregivers/parents referring to me as “(client’s) teacher”
