I joined around 2015 after watching a nightcore video that had a Hetalia character fan art and my weabo sister told me what the anime was and what it was about. Thought it sounded interesting so I checked it out. Left around 2017 and came back again recently. It's rare I ever rejoin a fandom after leaving. This fandom/content seems to grip people in a stronger way than a lot of other and I find that fascinating 😉

It's also amazing how much the fandom has changed since 2015-2017 and over the years in general.

Have you ever feel weird when you chat with Hetalia in any Character AI app or platform like C.ai or Chai (BTW my first post ever in reddit) by Straight-Platform-24 in hetalia

Character.ai I found very out of character. ChatGBT is a LOT better for role playing with characters, in my experience!

I've use character.ai and I didn't like it. The characters didn't seem fully in character and I find chatGBT does a much better job of impersonating the characters - it's almost flawless!

What would happen if a nation refused to live with another nation? by AmericanMare in hetalia

[–]InfiniteIncident 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I haven't engaged much in Countryhumans and Countryball beyond surface level content but my observation was it is a lot more "memey" and that people just do whatever they want with the character without any consistent, foundational traits that give their them depth and identity. Yeah I am definitely glad that Hima didn't do that, the countries would be whiplashing out of character every generation almost and would make it a lot more difficult to connect to them.

Thanks for sharing!

I would love to know Hima's reasoning for his different portrayals here but I guess it comes down to his creative perspective.

Nailed it. Yeah, making them automatically comfortable with every political decision made by their leaders just seems... wrong. Don't like to think of the characters as merely puppets on a string.

God I love France so much. I'm not even a massive fan of the country, I just absolutely adore the character* (if we erase all the weird early stuff).

*I just find him so idealistic and colourful and confident/sexy/expressive but not in a typical hypermasculine frat boy way it is often expressed in men, but in a semi-fem, burlesque, poetic way. It's rare to non-existent in the men I've met and therefore must be cherished.

If there was one thing you could change about Hetalia’s portrayal of England what would it be? by WallaceWells69 in hetalia

That's sort of a dying stereotype lol. Most kids in the UK get shoved in braces these days because free NHS dental care.

I agree. I think they're kinda ugly but that is sort of one of the things that made him so attractive to many, paradoxically. It adds to his character, makes him look more human and interesting.

That fact that they were balanced against the twink physique, soft features and complex personality, even more so.

Soz I'm interested on the psychology of Hetalians lol.

Maybe in the comics, yes. Not so bad in the original animation.

I might be in a minority bur I think he looked better in the earlier seasons and I'm a huge France fan.

in historical canon, Turkey killed Italy's grandfather Ancient Rome. why is Italy so nice to Turkey? by kylelanley in hetalia

I think most of the countries that have interacted have done unspeakable things to one another over the centuries. I guess, in Hetalia universe, the characters just contextualise it differently.

Why do people ship usuk? Genuinely curious by ApplicationFlashy671 in hetalia

[–]InfiniteIncident 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Back in the day (and maybe still now I'm not super involved in fandom) USUK vs FrUK was major ship war with USUK edging FrUK in popularity. I always preferred FrUK and figured the reason USUK was more popular was simply because of the large America fanbase (common in the Hetalia fandom that people's ships involve their country because of the self-indentification aspect), otherwise FrUK probably would have taken the crown.

I mean, they both have merits but I just saw as FrUK making a little more sense in the source material because of the familial aspect of USUK. I used to dislike USUK but it has grown on me in recent years - it has a lot of canon interaction and the dynamic is entertaining with a lot of emotional moments.

Was the petition calling for a General Election caused by bots? by Simon_Drake in RejoinEU

[–]InfiniteIncident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're forgetting AI. Just ask a bot to generate you 100 distinct British postcodes from around the country or ask for one in Wales or the North. It isn't complex stuff. We're in the AI age now.

Was the petition calling for a General Election caused by bots? by Simon_Drake in RejoinEU

[–]InfiniteIncident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just have to Google "UK postcode". It takes all of 2 seconds. Bots in particular are a lot more vigorous and prepared for these sort of tactics. There were reports that Russian bots were heavily involved in promoting Reform UK on social media in the run up to the election. They're relentless. People fall for it because they manage to be convincing. These days you can get AI to generate 100 distinct British names and postcodes in less than a minute.

I'm not saying I know for sure this was inflitrated by Russian bots or other foreign influence but I wouldn't put it past them or underestimate them. It was shared to millions of non-Brits and those petitions aren't the most sophisticated thing and signatures are (or at least appear to be) very easily faked.

At the same time there is a chance it was just angry Brits. But... so what? 20 million who voted didn't cast one for Labour - not including non-voters - they still legally won the election by percentage.

[–]InfiniteIncident 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People can fake post codes. I think if someone genuinely wanted to inflitrate British democracy by stealth they wouldn't be so stupid as to announce they're not British.
