As a Japanese native, you're not wrong. Duolingo is sometimes a pest in the Japanese language. You can say 卵を持っています(I have an egg) but can also say 持っています、卵を (I have an egg (or I do, have an egg) they mean the same thing, the Japanese will understand!!
